  • Cream - Sweet Wine live at Royal Albert Hall, London.
    May 2, 3, 5, 6. 1080p
    9 of 22
    In May of 2005 Cream returned to London's Royal Albert Hall-to the same stage where they had completed what was thought to be their final performance in 1968. It was one of the most eagerly anticipated, hard-to-get tickets in rock history. With the exception of a brief reunion set at their 1993 induction into the Rock and roll Hall of Fame, Cream had not played together in nearly four decades. This DVD documents Cream's momentous London shows. Performances from each of the four nights are featured and much more. Also included are alternate performances and interviews with Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce, and Eric Clapton. Cream formed in 1966 and disbanded in 1968. The band were a prolific and thrilling live act and toured incessantly in their short but remarkable history.

    The lyrics of a pastoral poem, transposed to music and we all talk of Clapton and Baker, but Bruce is a superb musician and vocalist and is often underrated.

    I think these reunion shows must be the best ever reunion from an old band, its like you say to yourself before it happens 'I know Cream will still be pretty good ' but surely no one expected them to still rule live, also the version of N.S.U is just amazing.

    I've been reading these comments about "old farts",etc...,rather humorous; these guys still get the last laugh! Think about this:3 musicians who are 60+years old,haven't even
    played together in 37 years...,selling out the Albert Hall for 4 nights in a row! They captivate still the audience...,3 elderly gents riveting the attention of several thousand people for 2+hours!! Who else could pull this off??

    • @tarnopol
      @tarnopol 4 роки тому +9

      Screw the keyboard jockey morons. They're all jealous: these three guys are masters of their instruments and, even moreso, of all the musical styles they play. One can like or not like the actual output--that's a matter of taste. But their massive talent, separately and together, is objectively true. They're far more talented than anyone, literally anyone, commenting here. That irks the weak.

    Music is a profession where it's quite normal to perform into your 70s or even 80s. Many classical pianists and violinists and jazz players did so, We don't expect it from rockers because the music started out as youth culture music, but these guys can still play. The one area where old age gets in the way is singing, but Cream where never exactly operatic.

    • @Jackle61
      @Jackle61 10 років тому +2

      Not to forget, you don't find a lot of classical pianists and violinists that have overcome debilitating drug and alcohol addictions and abuse. I'm sure there are a few, but it's almost part of the rock culture.

      Hendrix and Clapton were actually pretty good friends. Clapton went to New York to record with Ahmet Ertegun. When Clapton had his free evening, he would go out with his friend Hendrix and they would go to random clubs, see who was playing there and just jammed with them! Such were the days. Clapton was also deeply hurt when he heard of Hendrix's death. All of this is there in his autobiography, its a really good read!

      I think he’s basically using his onboard booster to drive the amp harder. Those old design tube amps are all about input level which is why guys used to use boosters instead of dirt pedals. I don’t know what Clapton’s pedal situation was at these gigs but given that he resisted Marshalls and wah pedals I’d be surprised if he busted out a fuzz box (especially considering he didn’t used to use them). Neck pickup and backing off the tone control with considerable gain was always how he got the woman tone (those old non-master-volume Marshalls are already distorted by the time you get them up to gig volume, which is around “2” on the channel volume knobs)

    I have this issue with most video editors. Why in blazes do they keep jumping the camera around. A two second shot there, three second there. Trying to be artistic they miss the most important aspect of the performance, that is technique of the performers. 3:47 - 4:00 was perfect. We get the see the whole band, and enjoy their techniques even then they cut it off after about 9 seconds. What a shame. Guys leave that damn camera on the performers .

    This would be so much better if the guitar were 20% lower in the mix...and you could actually, like, HEAR JACK BRUCE.

      Listen harder or adjust your speakers. It's loud and clear.

    Who wants the worry, the hurry of city life.
    Money, nothing funny, wasting the best of our life.
    Sweet wine, hay making, sunshine day breaking.
    We can wait till tomorrow.
    Car speed, road calling, bird freed, leaf falling.
    We can bide time.

    Jack’s voice was shot. He couldn’t carry the vocal on this one. Pity , because Eric sang it flat. Pretty ordinary concert from the look of it.
