I remember back in the day in PR they used to be baked/grilled on an outside fogon made of brick & a grill on top! I gotta say I've never added Sofrito to masa nor ever seen anyone else do it, but hey, im gonna try it...why not!

A bit too soft compared to what I had before, probably bc I had added pumpkin to the masa so I'm gonna try it again without it. In any case I ate them all for lunch so I guess they weren't that bad considering it was the first time. Thanks boricua. Be blessed.

I did not know about cassava pasteles, but it makes sense. Vegetarian pasteles are also delicious

In the States you could buy the Yuca/Casaba already grated packaged in the frozen food section. Or use a food processor which is cheaper...

These are baked usually in a fire pit with carbon I think it’s so the paper doesn’t catch on fire
