The worst part about the guy talking about Bernie Sanders is I guarantee he saw that in a right wing meme on facebook and didn't fact check it despite it being ridiculous
In some rare instances, a heckler can make a show better. I think the people that do shout out something think they will be that one in a thousand and are tempted to do so the more liquid courage they consume. I found out by trying to be that guy years ago when at a Jim Carrey stand-up gig. He carved me up. Never uttered a word at a comedy show since.
Thank you for sharing this. I had a friend heckle at a show once. Mind you we are middle of nowhere folk vs. a very well dressed dude from chicago. It's never a good idea to heckle. I stop talking when come through the door. I do not need the extra attention lol. Especially don't immediately start talking shit about Obama just cause the comic is black. Bad move Thuran.
Just because a comedian is good at responding to a heckler doesn't mean it makes the set better. Usually, comedians have a planned set, and heckling is a disruption of that no matter how funny it is when it's disrupted. If a comedian wants audience participation, they are more than capable of asking. I have seen so many comedians who are bombing and all that yelling out things at them makes that experience worse. It's usually not fun to have an audience not seeming to like your set, I personally never thought "If only people would yell commentary at me right now, this show would be saved." It just throws me off more. I assume that is the case for others. It also tends to be just as unhelpful when someone comes up to me and tells me how i could improve or what jokes they felt sucked. I find it fascinating that often those who were offended by a statement usually were offended for someone i insulted. Which I would tell them "don't repeat the joke to them then. u are likely just going to hurt their feelings"
The ones that actually apologized or admitted they were wrong deserve some kudos. It takes actual maturity to admit when you're wrong, sure they were being immature first by interrupting and arguing. BUT the fact they apologized helps.
The woman who said "it is" didn't deserve to be "taught a lesson" she was clearly saying it to herself but happened to get stuck in the awkward moment where EVERYONE goes silent.
