I often say to folks "Just cuz I have hearing aids doesn't mean I can hear you." Yes Sir, I truly know and understand, and being old like me only worsens the situation. Drums, guns, motorcycles, then military big guns, rock n roll, and now y'all know the rest of this deaf guy's story. But I thank GOD that I still have eyes to see and ears to hear what He wants me to see and hear...... Amen! Thanks and Blessings Who Tee!

God bless both of y’all! We were all probably in different bands together lol! I loved some loud guitar and, although I was never truly impressive, I knew how to work the volume knob on that amplifier! Young, dumb-at the time I equated volume with skill, never understanding anything about the 12 bar blues that I wanted to play. And then came every explosion that the military had on offer on a regular basis, guns of many calibers and crotch rockets with straight pipes. Say wha?

I've been wearing hearing aids almost half my life now, and I’m only 56. I attribute most of it to, as a kid going to the rifle range with my dad to sight in his rifle for deer season, “looked forward to going every year”. But every time, even after wearing the rubber foam ear protection my ears would be ringing for two or three days afterwards. And yes, I understand you when you say just because I wear hearing aids that does not mean I can always hear you. But for me, I can hear you talking, I just can't understand what you're saying. I'll say what did you say, and the person will repeat their-self louder. I don't need you to be louder, I need you to be clearer.

For many years I never wore hearing protection until one day while out shooting the Soundwave from my rifle reverberated off surrounding structures just right and I immediatly lost all hearing in bolth ears, had non stop ringing in my head for weeks and felt dizzy and sick to my stomach for several days. Once I regained my hearing I found out I'd lost 10-15 percent hearing in bolth ears. I've worn ear protection ever since. I did not think a Soundwave from a gunshot could make me feel like that. Always always use ear protection.

I know many older and also younger hunters - they are shooting not so much as you do and they are also deaf. I bought a silencer on my "bing bang" and i love it! In Austria silencer are allowed now since 01.01.2019! That noise damaged our hearing is nothing news but many People think they are strong as Superman and they stay healthy all the time! greetings from austria.....not australia:-D!

Yep, I grew up in a time when hearing protection wasn't even available. I have lived with tinnitus since I was in my 20's, I'm now 70+. Please wear ear protection! It's not fun living with hearing loss and constant ringing 24-7. It's preventable. Teach your kids to have on EP every time they shoot. Even .22"s..

I am a vet and I suffer from severe hearing loss. While I would like to blame it on my service, the fact is that my younger years had too much loud music, hunting and target shooting without hearing protection and working with loud tools. As a result my hearing is very bad. I just bought some the ear buds and will give them a try. From one TN boy to another, thank you for the video!

When I was young, I got into sound production for rock concerts. This was back in the '70s and I was literally the only person in the business using hearing protection. I noticed that a lot of musicians who weren't that much older than me were hard of hearing, and I wanted to avoid that!

Completely agree. My Dad drilled into me and my brother to use eye/ear protection and we both have. I wear ear protection EVERY time I run a chainsaw, snowblower, lawnmower, go shooting and hunting, etc. I've enforced those rules to my kids too. My son is a diesel mechanic and wears ear and eye pro regularly. He said all his older coworkers are almost deaf, and pick on him for him being safe. It does bother him to get chastised, but in time that will be no biggie. At least he will grow old, able to hear and see well.

Hey brother, let the tears flow man! I’m fighting serious tinnitus myself, gunfire and explosions being the main cause. Amen! Thankfully my brother exemplified the importance of hearing protection before I got any permanent damage. Thankfully before that most of my range time was with 22s but the biggest wake up call I had was when I shot about 18 rounds through a 22 revolver and had my ears ringing for 3 days. I was terrified that it was going to stay like that but I recovered just fine. Now I won't shoot anything without hearing protection.

I do love your honesty in sharing that you've actually shot firearms many times without wearing hearing protection! Hey, I too have an MBA, and I've hunted without them my whole life, shooting as many as three shots on deer many times! That said, I've always worn hearing protection when shooting, skeet, trap, sporting clays and on the pistol/rifle range. The one exception was when I lived in Georgia, I too one shot with my .357 and special high velocity ammo (required in Georgia for deer hunting, minimum 1200 FPS), and my ears hurt, they rang for a half hour! Surely I did some damage that day! And thanks for sharing the link, I'm going to purchase the AXIL Extreme 2.0's for sure!

Preach! When I was 19 I stupidly went out with my 243 with a box of shells, after 17 rounds over a half hour or so, I loaded the last 3 and pumped out a fast pattern; my ears started ringing --- they have been ringing for 50 years! I carry extra ear protection wherever I go, and I have numerous times handed out 'plugs' to children/teens who were unprotected while shooting with supposed adults!

thank you for the courage to post this video--I have what is called a "profound" loss of hearing. Mine was caused by a combo of allergy issues and racing in Nascar and a lot shooting as well--I use hearing aids now and I am embarrassed to say that I ignored my Wife and co workers for years who complained of my hearing. There are many great devices to help and it will changed your life. I now enjoy hearing the birds chirp for the first time in 25 years--It was an emotional experience to hear clearly again and on the second day with the hearing aids, I apologized to my Wife because I suddenly realized what she put up with for so long.. I implore all shooters to protect your hearing and get help if you have ANY doubts OR you have to say "what" or "huh" to people on a regular basis..
thanks again for the video Sir!

Hearing pro is a must for using bang bangs. I keep ear plugs in all my AR grips and 4 pairs in my range bag. Then I keep two pairs of ear muffs in my truck since it's a military truck, it's loud as it is. So when I go shooting, I double up a lot. It's even more important to double up when shooting with buddies or others at the range who have muzzle brakes. I'm surprised for all the rock concerts and other things I've done without wearing ear pro that I haven't lost my hearing. Last hearing test I had, my right was slightly above normal and my left was slightly below normal.

I rang my ears pretty good last year while shooting hypersonics while duck hunting. Now I always wear ear plugs when hunting ducks. A friend has lost most of his hearing from hunting. The doctor told him it could be 10 shots or just one with no ear protection he could totally lose his hearing. When I watched you bang off that slug gun I felt the pain in my ears. Ouch! I'm happy you can hear again.

USMC Vet here. Been wearing hearing aids since my early 30s. The ringing, actually a high pitched squeal, in my ears overpowers the strongest hearing aids available, so I'm still deaf with them. My word recognition with the hearing aids is still only 80%. Not all of my hearing loss is from gunfire. I was in signals intelligence. Intercepting traffic over radios often required cranking the volume up to hear through the static.
And I'm with you. I have a 9 yo son.... I want to hear him! But, I have an ex, so being deaf does have it's benefits.
Muffs often get dislodged by the stock when firing. And putting muffs over a stocking hat cuts the protection in half. In-ear hearing protection is almost always superior. As long as they fit snugly. A little discomfort while wearing them is worth the price to preserve your hearing.

Can relate. Grew up shooting and way back then hardly anyone wore hearing protection. At 18 my hearing was so affected I had to get waiver to be able to qualify for my Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) and it's gotten progressively worse. I have hearing aids through VA and what a difference they make. My wife is more interested in my having them in then I am. Seems she wants to know I hear her giving me hell for something. I shoot a whole lot of Trap, wearing military grade plugs as muffs get in the way, otherwise I'm wearing Caldwell electronic muffs. Preserve your hearing by always wearing protection. Plugs are better than muffs and muffs are better than nothing. Your video is spot on and encouraging young people to conserve their hearing from the start is wise and they're the ones most aware of changing technology.

Well Adam, I know exactly what you’re feeling, and by the comments I’ve read we are not in the boat alone. Been playing with bing bangs for well over 50 years, left ear is probably hearing at about 20%, and the right at maybe 50%.
I’ve noticed that you always have hearing protection on your children, good on you, I always insist my son wear muffs too, usually with the foam plugs in the ears as well ( double up). It sucks to have ringing in my ears 24/7 also and I sure wouldn’t wish it upon anyone!

After thousands of rounds as a royal navy marksman rated S In the sixty's with no ear protection I don't have deafness but I do have mad tinnitus. I would love to have deafness instead of 55 years of constant noise in my head.

I am 30 percent deaf in my left ear and nearly the same in the right one. All the shooting we did as kids BEFORE we knew about ear protection and nearly 30 yrs cutting meat and the noisy saws and grinders and stuff. Listen to the man. Once you have lost it, you won't be getting it back👍

I'm half def myself. Lots of years working around loud equipment and working oilfield. Only time I wear hearing protection is when I'm shooting.

Bamn…i have very serious Tenitus (spell…?) I have played in Bag Pipe bands my entire life & still do. You have no idea how loud a high end BP band with 10+ pipers & hopefully 5+ drummers is. Standing next to a 747 on the runway ready to go is BP band volume. Rehearsals are 3 hrs sometimes 2x a week, We are all deaf. Shooting is NOTHING compared to piping. Anyhow, shooting a few weeks ago my buddy tossed me his canceling head phones. I could NOT believe it… quiet… quiet as if I was para jumping again, Unbelieavible. All back ground noise was gone, NOISE in my head was WAY down and it is REALLY loud in my head, so much that it is very hard to sleep, decades of nightmares from head noise. I am deafingately (!) buying some of these. Thank you. Years of rock bands didn’t help either….

Hearing loss can lead to Alzheimer’s!
Always wear your ear pro! I’m trying to be better about doing it while hunting, and not just target shooting! I wear custom fit plugs under muffs when shooting handguns and rifles with brakes.

just did my annual hearing test at work, the gentleman looked right at me after it and said. "so you are a lefty and how often do you shoot?" Always wear quality foam plugs and just picked up a set of electronic walker muffs to double up with when the big toys come out. Interested in the Axil GS to possibly wear while hunting.

Good luck with your hearing, my ears have ringing in both of them. Back in the 70's they didn't push hearing protection and years later you pay for it. If you wear glasses muffs are not as good, they don’t seal as well.

I was a military brat and then in the USAF as an SP on the flightline. So jet engines and guns. Then hunting and shooting…but i did always wear my hearing pro. My grandfather went deaf. My dad was deaf as hell. Brother almost deaf. Im 52 and still hear pretty good. Although the wife says im deaf (im just ignoring her) Many times i wore plugs and muffs. Just got some electronic muffs to enhance sound. Its very important to wear your ear pro!!! Great video man!!!!

I’ve become fanatical about hearing protection. 25 years of hunting and 20 years of construction have taken their toll. With guns I would wear hearing protection at the range but hunt without them. I realized I needed to get real when I shot 5 times at a deer that jumped back up. I have marlin guide gun that’s ported back 2 in in 450 marlin. It’s the only thing I’ve louder then then a 7” ar pistol. My
Tendinitis has been permanent since that day. And I lost 25 % instantaneously.

Sorry about your hearing loss. The hearing aid audiologist ps won’t tell you that you can now purchase hearingaids over the counter for a huge price reduction. I’ve seen them as low as $50.00. I can’t verify how well they might work but i have also seen Bose selling hearing aids but I don’t know tHieR price. Yes!!! Protection for hearing is a MUST…. I am personally deaf in both ears and have had a cochlear implant for 7-8 years. The cochlear is wonderful technology but I’d really love to have my own hearing back….

I go to a school of electromechanical technicians and they teach you about hearing protection and said that if you are in a really loud environment you should use both tipes of protection, in ear and over ear so the total decibels that you are hearing end up being less than 85
Sorry if I have a bad english, since I'm from Argentina
