    For anyone struggling with drip rate, notice the drip plug has 2 small grooves one on each side. Simply block one side of the groove and you will consistently get the "desired" 1-2 hr drip rate. The drip rate on these models has little to do with grind size or vacuums etc.
    Simply alter the drip rate to change the drip time.

      Toothpick would do it

      @@AngryStyrotoothpick made it worse. when I stuck a toothpick in there, it stretched the rubber on the other side and the flow rate was ridiculously fast.

    Having trouble with getting the grind correct at my local roaster. Any other brew methods that use a similar grind i can use as a reference.

    Can I use the drip pot to make hot coffee, or just stick to cold drip??

    Great video, seems like you had a coffee beforehand :D
    Which is better for making iced latte concentrate - Immersion or Drip?

    Hey, looking to pick one of these up myself! I haven't found many reviews on it, which concerns me a little bit. How's the flavour of the coffee you get from it? And have you kept it in your routine?

      Great questions! I have found other cold brewers that have more of an easier workflow. Though I do like the large metal filter for this - as it provides a rich and strong drip coffee.. it is a little harder to slow the drip rate down on ... you could also consider the BrewJar as a cold brewer rather than drip coffee.. equally well with the stainless steel filter.

      @@AlternativeBrewing Thanks mate! I ended up biting the bullet and ordering it. I'll let you know how I get on with it. I feel like it's a perfect amount of time to start work in the morning and to have this piece act as a sort of hourglass with a cold brew as the reward!

    Hi i have tried 3 grind settings for the shizuku, starting from coarse to currently my espresso grind setting. The shizuku is still taking around 50minutes to complete a 600ml drip. Is it supposed to be doing finer than espresso grinds to get 2hours drip time?

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing  3 роки тому

      Hi Michael, to get the best results with the Shizuku _ I would first use some ICE in the above chamber - this will assist in slowing down the overall time - than ensure the plug dripper is inserted correctly as this can result in a faster than normal drip rate and place the lid on as soon as possible to create a vacuum in the water chamber. These all should help to slow the drip rate - that imho is more like a 1 - 1.5hr dripper max than it is a 2hr dipper.

    Hey folks, I recently got one of these as a gift, and for the most part it looks pretty good. However, the water flow rate is far, far too quick and I can't slow it down no matter how I adjust the plug. The reservoir empties in under three minutes, and the results are pretty tasteless. Can you suggest anything before I return it?
    Thanks,
    Ross

      Hi Ross ! there is that little plug that's meant to be pushed in and turned around in a certain way in order to create the ideal dripping time. It is a naturally faster dripper than most and will empty in 1-2 hours - but 3 minutes is absurd I agree. Try manipulating the plug to slow the water down, - add ice 50% to the mixture will help with the Slow drip / cold brew procedure too.

      I’m having the same problem . Can you show me how fast the water should be dripping thru ? There’s is about 2 drips per second . Just by looking at the water dripping out of the stopper

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing  4 роки тому

      Hi Anita, the best way to control the overall time of the brew is add ice to the top vessel - perhaps having a 50/50 water and ice will slow the drip rate down as the ice will melt. The drip rate can not be controlled with the Shiuzuku and it's expected to be finished in under 2 hours.

      Hey #alternativebrewing, thanks for sending through the new plug/stopper component. The dripper now works very well, and makes great cold drip! Would recommend you and the Hario to anyone.

      Same issue here. Flies out in about 2 minutes. How far does the stopper need to pressed down? And does the rubber part on the bottom sit outside of the glass in groove?

    I'm just wondering what this coffee style is called. I've heard it as Dutch coffee, I drip coffee, and Hakota coffee

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing  4 роки тому +2

      Hi Chris, the simple version is Cold Brew Coffee - but every culture has a unique spin on it. Brewing coffee this way was done way back in the 16-1700's on ships, in barrels - I guess that's where Dutch Coffee comes from.. Shizuku in Japanese means 'droplet' or drop. Used in context of food or beverage preparation it means Cold Preparation. Hope this answers your question :)

    Question: I've never been a coffee drinker, so I am completely ignorant on coffee. I've just started making cold brew to mix with other drinks.
    I've noticed a mud like consistency settling to the bottom. Is that normal? Do most people drink that? Or filter it out?
    It seems like it will mix fine if shaken or stirred, but I've tried using a standard paper coffee filter and that filters it out.
    I'm only using it as a mix in protein shakes, so I don't care about the consistency. I just don't want to drink it if it is bad for me.

    70g seems like too much coffee, it's hitting the dripper

    • @AlternativeBrewing
      @AlternativeBrewing  4 роки тому

      That may be related to our different grind sizes... if I had a finer grind size than you, my coffee will sit lower in the basket..
