Thank you for the information on your channel. I run to your channel often as it is the place where I find comfort and shelter from the violent storms of fear. I have a long history of twitching. Because of educating myself about the possible disease processes that contribute to or cause twitching I have become almost paralyzed by fear. I came upon your channel and have watched your videos over and over. I have no strength deficits! I test my grip strength, arm and leg strength and I am noticing no change! I can perform all my usual activities without any problems! But, the twitching persists. So I am CHOOSING to ignore the twitching and celebrate my health and well being. My new mantra is: NO WEAKNESS, NO WORRIES! Twitches be damned, I am CHOOSING to live and love my life! As I write this comment, I continue to twitch but I have no muscle weakness! So….I will repeat over and over, NO WEAKNESS, NO WORRIES! I am so grateful to you Cherelle for your wisdom and courage to share your thoughts, experiences and messages of hope! You are my oasis in the desert of anxiety! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

I think for many of us, certainly myself included, we’ve battled these same sensations for months or years longer than many who are actually afflicted with these diseases will survive. At a certain point you’d think logic would prevail, but as HA often does, logic becomes just background or white noise to the fatalistic thought.

It’s amazing how many symptoms/feelings can feel so real like you have something wrong, but it’s really just anxiety. I learned that my shortness of breath and dizziness happens when I’m anxious especially. I get a weird gaggy feeling in my throat and depersonalization which are two of the scariest symptoms

If als wasn’t on the internet none of us would even be here because twitching alone is harmless it’s the anxiety that causes more problems. Can I add… facicularions alone with no weakness is not als ! Weakness comes first and notice things like can’t pick up keys button up a shirt or trip over your foot can’t lift your foot up true clinical weakness something you would notice. Twitches in als come after weakness far down the line when the neurons are damaged. Which you would know. I no this and still tell me myself this and still think sometimes als but keep telling yourself no weakness is no als. Remeber true clinical weakness !

No the twitching is a response from the nerves as a dying muscle that is separate thing all together. You can twitch forever and your muscles are fine .. for you to even think that twitching is just because of a dying muscle then u clearly need to educate yourself more

I'm so glad I found this video and comments. I too have lost months to debilitating health anxiety because of twitching and the fear of MS/ALS. This started 5 years ago and my issues morphed to include body wide twitching/vibrating that comes and goes, to visual snow, to immense muscle pain/burning, cramps, IBS, and brain fog. Just recently my tongue and pelvic floor were included in the places of twitching, which really ramped up my health anxiety. My one true fall back is that I have no weakness.
I've seen my GP, rheumatologist, urologist, and neurologist multiple times and have had countless tests, which all sadly show nothing. But they all say "it's not ALS!". In the end I've been diagnosed with ME/CFS and I'd be willing to bet a lot of people here have it as well.

Hi Charelle, I just want to say thank you so much for your channel. Knowing that other people are going through some of the same twitching symptoms as I am, makes me feel better inside. My twitches(fasciculation) started off behind my left shoulder, it lasted for 3 days and then went away. Started getting twitches through out my body but they weren't visible. Then I started getting fasciculations above my left knee and that lasted for 4 days and went away. The fasciculations never came back but i'm still getting twitches, pulses and body jolts. I do get this pain in my feet, feels like cramps but not very severe. Everything seems to be more frequent when i'm going to bed and when I wake up. Now my left upper eye lid started to twitch and its pretty annoying. No weekness of any sort, I'm hoping that this is all due to health anxiety. I have an appointment with a neurologist next month. Fingers crossed

It is anxiety. I had this in early May. Started as only my left eye. Then spread as I became more fearful. Went to doctors, ect. They only found mild iron deficiency. Which is not bad enough to cause the amount of twitching I had. Eventually the continuous twitching stopped. It happens randomly now but I just roll my eyes at it. Because it’s only when I’m highly emotional, stressed or being in panic mode.

The muscle weakness associated with ALS is pretty obvious. From what I’ve read it’s not like your arm feels weak… it’s more that you literally can’t lift it or hold a cup. That’s clinical weakness.
I’m NO DOCTOR or EXPERT but it wouldn’t hurt to check for pinched nerves in your back or neck. Numbness isn’t an ALS symptom as it doesn’t deal with nerves (feeling/touch/sensor) it deals with the muscle. Again I’m no expert but hopefully it can help calm your nerves a bit.

Great to hear@@AnEchochet that it's not developed. I have the same, in that it's a few times a minute, sometimes every second. 3 months in and my neuro wasn't worried. It gives me hope these are benign, even in worst case stories people have some weakness by now and I strength test regularly to check, even got a grip meter! More in my left arm are freaking me out now but think it's brought on by weights and golf. I'm still worried, but 2 months ago I'd have killed to be in this position now (2 months more twitching and no weakness). I hope you continue to improve!

    • @AnEchochet
      @AnEchochet 10 місяців тому +2

@@fresharsenal Most of my initial twitching actually occurred in my face and shoulders after I had spent the day laying down pavers. As I grew worried over the course of that month, the twitching spread body wide. I had multiple moments of panic and existential freak-out, but the docs and all the scans couldn't find a culprit.
Most of my twitches now occur primarily in my calves (all the time), and then several times an hour in my thighs, forearms, neck, biceps, and outer shoulders.
Strangely, most nights, except for when I begin to wake, most of the twitches calms down. That's why I've now personally attributed the twitching to some kind of waking-state neuro-agitation/imbalance.
I'm glad to hear your grip/strength is fine. From what I understand, this is a very popular benign condition that isn't described thoroughly in the literature.

I have hypnic jerks and spasms too, especially at night or when llaying down. My muscles feel sore all day without medication and I feel a lot of tension, released by twitches.I was so scared and went to the emergency room. All tests were fine ( also neurological tests).
I went to heavy trauma ( heavy violence and strangulation) and after that I became very frightened about having diseases and got health anxiety ( I guess that was because I thought I was going to die when the violence took place).
This became so huge and worse and worse untill I got neurological symptoms like really weird headaches, light and sound sensitivity etcetera.
At that time I took stratterra for my ADD , which increases norepinephrine so I stopped it immediately.
At that moment I was so sure I had a brain tumor and thought I wasnt going to live long anymore.
When the weird neurological symptoms disappeared, the twitches/cramps/fasciculations began.
This is still going on but I take diazepam now and realistically I believe it is because of this trauma and the health anxiety it created as a result.

There is no definitive test for ALS. It's basically ruling out everything else. And weakness is more common than twitches so you just add to it by saying oh weakness means ALS. Because all i have is weakness. Occasional twitches are normal. In ALS it doesn't stop.

Now if my thigh is ok and it doesn't spread I'm fine". 2 Weeks later it spreads a little bit and my thigh is the new hotspot. o_0 I think time will heal. @TheCrain Glad to see no major health changes and you're still ok! I had a panic attack last week so my twitches were off the charts for me. I started taking my anxiety meds again and I've calmed down a lot and the twitches have died down as far as frequency but I still get random ones in my hands, fingers, feet, calves, stomach, and back. If you haven't tried anxiety meds or anything I would definitely recommend at least trying them. I never wanted to be on a pill everyday but last June it got so bad I had to at least try. I'm suppose to take them everyday but I usually take them for a few weeks and if my anxiety levels out I stop. This time I may try to take them for a few months straight and see how that does.

People like you who just dismiss it as only anxiety are the reason why people like me have had to fight tooth and nail To get to the bottom what is happening to their bodies. It literally has took three different doctors several specialists and tests to confirm joint deformities in my feet, Weakening of my joints, Constant muscle pain and spasms that they dismissed as tendonitis. And always blamed it as physiological with my tremor disorders but it's not. Please stop trying to diagnose everyone as it being only anxiety. Hated partaking in anything joyful as I thought I wouldn’t be around anyways. All the dumb stuff. Tongue twitching really sealed the deal for me. After months of it happening non stop I can say it’s less frequent now.

As far as symptoms go they’re still there I get the twitching all over. Legs, arms, fingers, tongue, neck etc… (the tongue hasn’t twitched as much as it did before) my anxiety creeps up mostly at night when there’s nothing to do but think.
Still no weakness though. I can confidently say that it’s been almost 1yr and a half since my twitching became prominent and I’m as strong as ever. There’s days you I don’t feel 100% but that’s just life. I can lift, walk, run as always. Again keep hanging in there. I thought I was a goner at one point. Anxiety is something I will probably have to deal with always but I know I’m not dying and that’s good enough for me lol

I feel like its not a coincidence you replied near the one year anniversary. I'm here to tell you, don't waste time on this. See a doctor, and if they say you're good, then forget about it, but all (3) of my neuros said by three months there would be very apparent signs of you know what in terms of weakness, so if you are 3 months in and no true weakness, then its likely your head or pinched nerve or something. @@fresharsenal

I think a major reason for why we don’t believe neuros and trust our odds… it’s due to our society’s attitude towards “anxiety”
I think for a majority of people it’s mild or just believed to be temporary like a stressful moment. It’s symptoms haven’t really been explored and we haven’t been made aware.
Speaking personally I can’t help but think that the current state of the world is giving more and more people crippling anxiety everyday… this means the amount of people who have no idea what it feels like are feeling it for the first time. It can be terrifying.
Generations before didn’t have the internet. They kind of just had to deal with things until they got to a certain point. Good or bad, you can judge. I think we’re all more anxious these days and honestly more should be aware.
