Incredible story! I didn't realise Veganism was growing that fast in the African American community. I hope that our POC community here South Africa can follow suit because we've got some serious public health issues here.
My third vegan video of the morning. This makes me so excited! Wish there were an all-vegan video platform like UA-cam with only vegan stories. Terrific news!
Thank you for this story! I’ve been an ethical vegan for over 30 years and a strict WFPB eater… Going vegan is the single most impactful change a person can make, for the animals, for the planet, for one’s own health, and as a step toward a non-violent world.
As a Haitian American vegetarian i was definitely motivated to break the cycles of preventable diseases bc diabetes, hypertension and stroke run in my family. I recommend for anyone interested watching documentary on UA-cam called the invisible vegan, it talks about this topic in more detail .
I've been vegan for almost 5 years and I love it! I used to have chronic constipation, insomnia, fatty liver disease, fatigue and high cholesterol. Now my health is excellent and I've lost a lot of weight. I'm glad to hear that more African-Americans are embracing veganism! Too many of us are dying prematurely.
They should've pointed out that it's WHOLE foods, plant based that is healthy and should be advocated. Just being vegan isn't necessarily healthy, though is better for the planet and of course the animals.
@@isabellezablocki7447 yep yep. I think people need to hear this. If they think about one more hurdle they need to jump - going Whole Foods plant based - it may discourage them. Of course, that’s the best. But even if you just cut out the animal products and get rid of the cancer-causing, artery-clogging agents, you’ve made a huge leap forward towards healthy living
Dam this is Inspiration. I been vegan going on 3 weeks. The hardest thing was findìng out what to eat but opening my mind and seeing meals I can make helped me out a lot. I'm 46 and a few people in my family passed away young. I do believe what we put in our bodies over a period of time plays a role and Lack of excercise as well. Other things too but those are the 2 that came to mind. I try to spread as much knowledge as I can to people because I want everybody to live a full life. Glad I ran into this. I love seeing people taking thier health serious and inspiring others. 💯
We understand that this is our African diet white peoples diet is not for us no disrespect to them but we need to be plant based even white people need to go plant base.
I agree that white people food is mostly garbage! So much animal ingredients and processed foods. So little spices or flavor. These big corporations like KFC, McDonalds, Burger King, and Taco Bell prey on communities of color in particular. It’s like they want ya’ll to get sick while they fatten their pockets. I’m so glad veganism is growing and I’m sick of the anti-vegans spreading lies about veganism. We have to stand up against the misinformation they spread. Let’s keep promoting plant-based as much as possible. Take care fellow vegan! 🙂
“white peoples diet”? so Okinawas never existed? “this is our African diet” so you’re implying the whole African continent has only 1 diet? so tribes like Maasai never existed?
Anthony Hill, thanks for the story BUT we are BLACK! When you say POC you are referring to others but the story is supposed to be about Black people (based on the video title) Very cringe worthy!
It’s true: the title implies the story is about Black Americans only. When a Latinx woman was also included, so she’d be a POC, I guess. Much love to the Black community and my biggest respect for being the fastest growing group of vegans! ❤️
Please do NOT start w/ a video title of Black Americans, start out talking about Black Americans, switch to POC, Black & back to POC. It is disrespectful. We're Black Americans.
@@heyalun Because the original Pew study is worded ambiguously and sloppily. Most people believe white meat and fish are not meat. Hence they get categorized as vegetarian. I am a doctor and have people tell me all the time they are vegetarian. When I ask what they had for dinner the previous night it too often includes fish or chicken.
@@helicart yes, but how would that be different for any race or ethnicity? If 5% more are saying they’re vegan or vegetarian, then wouldn’t it make sense that more are genuinely such?
@@heyalun depends on their education. Less educated people are more likely to think fish and chicken are not 'meat'. Either way, blacks and latinos are significantly more overweight and obese than whites and Asians. Whole Foods is the best for the health but just changing from a beef burger to a beyond burger is already a plus.

Blacks lag Hispanics, Asians, and whites in vegetarian and vegan diets.
Huh? How are they lagging if more of them are vegetarian than in the general population?
