I am a state inspection mechanic from Penn Pennsylvania for over 50 years, so I built my car instead of buying one. My question is if you have any knowledge about if I ever got pulled over, would I have to go to a state referee thanks for making the video.

I got the same thing in march 2020 and went to state ref because I never received the court fine until October 2020. And when I took my car to state ref in April of 2020 I passed smog but fail the exhaust test because my car made a pop after releasing from the throttle. So to this day my car has been sitting 😢 and I did pay the court fine which was $500 at the time. I am debating on registering it out of state.

I just took my ticket to the court house clerk and asked to see the judge. once you see the judge, he'll ask you if you rectified the issue or had the car inspected. Tell him no, and he'll tell you what the full fine is. accept the fine and pay it, and thats it. no need to take it to a ref station
Did u already get your car smogged ever since? Because I couldn’t get mine smogged even though fyt dismissed my case. It’s still being tagged as state ref at the smog station

However, when going to smog I was told my car still requires State Referee Certification, even though they beat my court case. I called FYT 2 times and they told me they already did their part which is the court process. And they told me for some people this happens and that they cannot really do anything about it anymore. Feels like I hired and paid them $800 for nothing even though they told me before I hired them “You can hire us so you do not have to put your car back to stock.” Everything was dismissed through court, yet, through the DMV I still have to go to state ref for smog. I paid $800 and waited 7 months for them to win court case, which I appreciate, but I still have to go to state referee.

I’ve swapped the engine to a Acura MDX, changed it to 6speed manual, (98-02 accord v6 only comes in automatic) it’s got a stand-alone haltech ecu, it’s also boosted. It’ll take a lot of money and time to turn it back to bone stock just for state ref… what advice do you have?
Sell the car and buy a real sports car. It's going to cost way too much to remedy. Plus it's front wheel drive. ALL real sports cars are rear-wheel drive. Plus, it's only a Honda after all. It's probably particularly fast. Honda's can be made fast, but the mods you have to do make it so unfriendly to drive that it's basically a race only car, completely useless for anything else. I got pulled over for Modified exhaust. I asked a cop if they can sign it off he said no I have to go to the CHP office. I went to the CHP office and they sent me to state referee. I already made the appointment and I will be charged $108 just to have them inspect it. If having just a modified exhaust is not a state red then why did they send me to them. i think if it’s dismissed then you should be fine. if you got it dismissed, did you pay the fine or the did the cop didn’t show up to court? either way ur car should be good to drive but be careful. if you get caught again and get state reffed for the same mods, the fine will double
but if i register my car in another state and get CA state reff it cant count because car is not CA register right it suppose to be CA registered for the state reff to matter....Question does it matter if my car is register in another state yet i have a CA license can i still get in trouble or is better to have a license or ID from that state my car is registered
Having an out of state plate is going to get you pulled over unless you live near the border or a tourist town like Tahoe. I would not drive across the street with an out of state plate in an urban area of CA.
I got pulled over 2 days ago 27150(a)bc for modified exhaust but on the back of the ticket it says state ref req with no state ref sticker or saying the vehicle has to be off the road what do I do in this case?
Go to court and let them know ownership of the vehicle changed. You shouldn't pay for it, with that being said do not assume you do not have to pay until you notify the court its sold and no longer in your possession.
That’s an easy fix fortunately! All you have to do is put the stock exhaust back on, go to your local police station with the car and ask an officer to confirm/inspect that you “fixed” the modified exhaust. He will sign it, you pay 10 bucks and mail it to the court

This kind of doesn't make sense... I know you got your fine and case dismissed; however, you are going to have to smog the car eventually and the machine will see that the CVN map on your ECU doesn't match what they have on file from the Federal EPA. I don't think that you could ever walk away from that if you plan on registering and operating the car. The smog station will automatically refer your vehicle to the state ref again.
@@freddaniali lol wrong. I was able to register my vehicle later that year and the following year after with no issue and no referral to the state referee. The car was a 2018 and this occurred in 2020. Yes you are right about the car being tuned tune not matching up etc. BUT, new vehicles in California don’t have to be smogged for 8 years. So until 2026, the EPA could fuck off. And they did, because I beat the case. I have sold the car. Before I did though, I had no issues with anything as far as registering and all of that. Btw, car enthusiasts here in CA don’t go to regular smog stations. Being referred isn’t an issue, even if that happened, nothing a junkyard ecu and a tuner that can flash to stock/vin match can’t fix.

He made a mistake by putting on the ticket that my car was a year 2019 car and its not even that year. The license plate comes back as 2012 And he didn't even inspect the car, Plus he didn't put any stamp or sticker on it like you said they should. What should do. I'm wondering if I can get this droped due to the credibility of the officers being compromised. Like I said my car wasn't even modified when he stoped me. yes you can, as long as you get the state ref certification paper you are ok to drive it after that while waiting for your court date. Just have the paper in your car in case an officer asks for it

It's probably particularly fast. Honda's can be made fast, but the mods you have to do make it so unfriendly to drive that it's basically a race only car, completely useless for anything else. I'm not saying it's a bad car, Honda's are good. I have one. It sure as hell won't beat my 430HP RWD Corvette, and I'll bet yours won't either. Don't bother to try and drag me. Corvette etiquette specifies that Corvette drivers don't race Honda drivers. We don't want to give them any undeserved street cred, and when you're bragging about swapping an Acura engine in, you know you're a bottom-feeder. I have a friend with an Acura NSX. It looks cute. It's fun to drive. Little kids like it. It won't beat my Corvette, though. I know Honda pretty well. They're my customer and have been for years. I hang out at their US HQ in Torrance. They have two really nice Honda race cars in the lobby. THOSE might beat my Corvette, but a modded, tuner, Fast & Furious kddie street Honda? No chance. Those cars are for wanna-bes. I have meetings with the top executives at Honda monthly. You might not realize this, being a fan-goy and all, but Honda doesn't really make cars, and they know it. They brag about it. Honda makes engines. Generators, lawn mowers, motorcycles, cars, ATVs. Honda doesn't make a car. They make an engine that they then dress up in car-like clothes to make it look like a car. They make engines. They only make it look like a car so they can sell the engine. The car is window dressing, but few people want to buy just the engine, so they sell the car clothes, and the motorcycle clothes, and the power generator clothes to dress up the engine as those things so they can sell the engine. Honda is not a car company, they're an engine company. They know it. When you buy their "car," you should be aware of that too. BTW: Acura' are not a marker of success. Acuras exist so that 20-something boys can pretend they've accomplished something when they haven't really.
Did they notice the engine swap? DId it have tell tale things like a non stock air filter?

My cousins who cop said “they rather sit in their patrol car and get paid then sit in a boring court house and get paid.”
I got pulled over for Modified exhaust. I asked a cop if they can sign it off he said no I have to go to the CHP office. I went to the CHP office and they sent me to state referee. I already made the appointment and I will be charged $108 just to have them inspect it. If having just a modified exhaust is not a state red then why did they send me to them. I would’ve just looked for another cop to sign it off.

i think if it’s dismissed then you should be fine. if you got it dismissed, did you pay the fine or the did the cop didn’t show up to court? either way ur car should be good to drive but be careful. if you get caught again and get state reffed for the same mods, the fine will double

Having an out of state plate is going to get you pulled over unless you live near the border or a tourist town like Tahoe. I would not drive across the street with an out of state plate in an urban area of CA.

Go to court and let them know ownership of the vehicle changed. You shouldn't pay for it, with that being said do not assume you do not have to pay until you notify the court its sold and no longer in your possession.

That’s an easy fix fortunately! All you have to do is put the stock exhaust back on, go to your local police station with the car and ask an officer to confirm/inspect that you “fixed” the modified exhaust. He will sign it, you pay 10 bucks and mail it to the court

This kind of doesn't make sense... I know you got your fine and case dismissed; however, you are going to have to smog the car eventually and the machine will see that the CVN map on your ECU doesn't match what they have on file from the Federal EPA. I don't think that you could ever walk away from that if you plan on registering and operating the car. The smog station will automatically refer your vehicle to the state ref again.
@@freddaniali lol wrong. I was able to register my vehicle later that year and the following year after with no issue and no referral to the state referee. The car was a 2018 and this occurred in 2020. Yes you are right about the car being tuned tune not matching up etc. BUT, new vehicles in California don’t have to be smogged for 8 years. So until 2026, the EPA could fuck off. And they did, because I beat the case. I have sold the car. Before I did though, I had no issues with anything as far as registering and all of that. Btw, car enthusiasts here in CA don’t go to regular smog stations. Being referred isn’t an issue, even if that happened, nothing a junkyard ecu and a tuner that can flash to stock/vin match can’t fix.

He made a mistake by putting on the ticket that my car was a year 2019 car and its not even that year. The license plate comes back as 2012 And he didn't even inspect the car, Plus he didn't put any stamp or sticker on it like you said they should. What should do. I'm wondering if I can get this droped due to the credibility of the officers being compromised. Like I said my car wasn't even modified when he stoped me. My vehicle code #he gave me was different aswell. On the ticket he put 27151 (a)

yes you can, as long as you get the state ref certification paper you are ok to drive it after that while waiting for your court date. Just have the paper in your car in case an officer asks for it
