  • 5 reasons why I'm against pipeline projects by Canadian companies in Canada. I do not delve into environmental issues as there is plenty of existing media discussing that portion of the topic.

I would be curious to know your thoughts on the extensive logging, specifically on Vancouver Island?

Logging companies own almost half the land on Vancouver Island, which was essentially given to them years ago when the land was virtually worthless because we needed the logging industry to supply all the lumber mills that dotted the island. Now that most of the mills are gone there is a sharp decline in logging industry jobs due to the fact we currently export the bulk of the raw logs offshore for pulp fiber. Should we claw back that land? No, not as long as they aren't costing the economy money or otherwise causing problems; but one big forest fire on the Island caused by logging industry negligence and I would be on the side of shut it all down as that would be the point where expense would exceed the taxpayer benefits. As you can see from my video I'm already past that tipping point with the pipeline companies.
I am against the leasing of crown land on the Island to the logging companies for the purpose of raw log exports. I would rather see that crown land left alone rather than be a source of cheap toilet paper for China..

All is good, thanks for asking! Due to C19 I've been stuck out of province for over a year. Once I get back home I'll be doing a video series on converting a 14' box truck into a full time RV.

      @@ScaredStupid Awesome! Good to hear,
I also am hunkering down with family in Cold Lake this winter because of C19,
I had a 1999 f350 V10 ex U-Haul with a 14 ft box, then sold it and traveled west in my Astro Van,
I am looking forward to your build,
      Thanks for getting back, Cheers!

Very intelligent and valid points. I make my living in the patch and am pro-pipeline as It's the lesser of two evils. The other evil being rail. Would the far more dangerous rail traffic not increase should pipelines be dismissed as a viable and safer option? Again a host of issues including LTD would arise I'm sure. Thanks

Moving product by rail shouldn't be any less safe than pipeline, which likewise speaks to the poor quality of Canadian rail industry management. Moving oil by rail is a poor choice for other reasons: namely it crowds out other products that we export that can't be transported in a pipeline, grain for example, and moving oil by pipeline is much more cost effective than rail.
I understand that a pipeline represents added job security for anyone still working in the field, but why should I, or any other BC resident have to assume the monetary and environmental risk for a pair of poorly managed companies to make it happen? You and I both stand behind our work and pay for the stuff we need and want, why is it too much to ask the pipeline companies to do the same? The answer is it's not unreasonable. These people have actively chosen to be parasites and we need to stop them.
Think of it in terms of self preservation: if either Enbride or Kinder Morgan cause a major incident on the taxpayer dime with public sentiment being what it is these days, the whole Canadian oil industry will be FUBAR'd along with our economy. Both companies have a poor track record and have proven to be unwilling to learn from their mistakes so this is not an unrealistic scenario.
