I would have walked and split the price at a an auction house like Christie's and made far more probably. More work but also much more pay off. If I have to put in a few weeks work for 10k more money minimum it is still steal.

come to Europe or Asia for an open market and practice when you sell you ask for at least a 5X higher price, and the buyer will offer you a maximum of 10% of the real price. these are the starting positions and then you mention your family and 35 children that you have to feed and cry, and through that show you try to extort as much money as possible
Considering the appraiser said “pay the money, you’ll never get another chance” the seller could’ve easily gotten over 15 grand if he knew how to negotiate. Could’ve gotten 18-19 grand all day since it was appraised at 25K

I"m glad in later episodes they decided to have Chumlee clean up his act a bit more. Since this episode, he's lost weight, has better hair and speaks way more intelligently. It was fun to have him as the comic relief but I appreciate the way he presents himself in recent episodes a lot better.
I would've kept it, that is a rare piece of history. I was doing coin collecting for awhile and a co-worker was selling a $20 bill gold certificate in prestine condition. I bought it and still have it, I turned down an offer from someone else that was low. It's good to have and keep something of historical value.

Having the Buffalo Bill revolver would've been nice to have, that conversation would lead to that abandoned rifle that was found in The Great Basin National Park forest out in Nevada during the 1800's and this rifle was found recently standing against a tree for over 100 years.

Pawn shops are willing to assume some risk in exchange for getting it for a lot less than it is worth. If you are not sure that it is not a fake and if the pawn shop cant find anyone right away to verify it, they will still buy it and take the chance that it is fake. Also, if it needs repairs pawn shops will do the repair then sell it. Auction houses wont.

One of the few times you see an item appraise higher than the seller is asking. I've noticed the pawn stars guys generally offer half of the value unless it is a very high value item..
The rule of thumb is that they offer 10% less than half the value on everything. Then negotiate up in small increments. That's true for every offer they make ... unless it's something that Rick wants for himself. At Cajun Pawn Stars, they offer 1/3rd the value right off the top.

Just amazing having a rare piece like that, some of those people bring in really rare awesome stuff. I've seen people bring in original equipment from Houdini, first edition books that were extremely rare, diving suit apparatuses, so many different collectibles. I even saw one episode of someone who brought in a rare military patch of native american special forces.
One guy brought in a huge collection of signatures on postcards spanning decades around 1950. There were signatures of elvis Presley, babe ruth and name just about anyone famous from that era and the seller was lowballed so hard for a collection which was basically priceless. Check it out. Selling it this way is quick money. Auctions don't guarantee you'll get what you want and you have to pay them something like 30% of what you get.
Dont worry, a lot of this stuff is staged for TV.
Pro tip when going to a pawn shop: Always say the base price 2x more than what you originally thought.

He was going to buy something for his collection which means he wasn’t desperate for money which begs the question why not put it in an auction where he would have got a lot more or sell to another collector?? You have to be dumb to go to a pawn shop with rare valuables 🤦♂️
Eh, I'd say the guy did okay. Not like some of the more Extreme lowballers on auctions on eBay.
He probably got the pistol on a low ball himself, so he made money on the deal.

Now you just have to find the other part of the colt with the serial number 2, and then swap them, and you have the second oldest Colt in history

I want a show where we see what they actually sell some of these items for after they buy them. Guaranteed some of these people got ABSOLUTELY fleeced. I think this guy is 100% one of them.
But he keeps returning to the pawn shop to sell items. He made money from this, I am sure. The guy who was selling probably low balled someone else.

They really don't though, they agree to the price, they can keep it and walk out the door anytime they want.

U must be desperate to give up 10k, just wait for a better buyer.
You may wait for a long time and if you put it up for auction after they take their cut you may end up with the same amount.

One of the few times you see an item appraise higher than the seller is asking. I've noticed the pawn stars guys generally offer half of the value unless it is a very high value item..
The rule of thumb is that they offer 10% less than half the value on everything. Then negotiate up in small increments. That's true for every offer they make ... unless it's something that Rick wants for himself. At Cajun Pawn Stars, they offer 1/3rd the value right off the top.

Just amazing having a rare piece like that, some of those people bring in really rare awesome stuff. I've seen people bring in original equipment from Houdini, first edition books that were extremely rare, diving suit apparatuses, so many different collectibles. I even saw one episode of someone who brought in a rare military patch of native american special forces.
One guy brought in a huge collection of signatures on postcards spanning decades around 1950. There were signatures of elvis Presley, babe ruth and name just about anyone famous from that era and the seller was lowballed so hard for a collection which was basically priceless. Check it out.
