I don't remember where I hear it (it was some other guess the servant video), but appearently Ivan the Terrible's lightning powers came from the fact that there was a mistranslation. Instead of 'Terrible' the Japanese read 'Lightning' (or something to that effect), hence the lightning powers.
It's kinda true. His original title is "Grozny". Some people think it's connected with "groza"(thunder), because Ivan was like thunder. And thunder was symbol of God's wrath, so title had positive meaning. And some think that the title comes from "grozit"(threaten), because he was cruel. This idea mostly came from non-russian sources. Also translation "The terrible" isn't accurate. That translation was some kind of propaganda, because foreigners didn't like him. So in French, German, English and Italian his title has more negative meaning
@@Ili-v4z The funny thing is, Terrible DID originally mean Threatening. It just doesn't mean the same thing anymore but the name Ivan the Terrible is already to widespread and you can't just rename him.

The Emiya Alter thing is not merely just the dark deal. JP had a joke calling him Detroit Emiya and the illustrator literally wrote that his inspiration was an “Emiya who was in jail”. Basically, it was a horrible design choice from the start. The fact the localization team had issues with Jack and Abi, yet left BOTH untouched says a lot of how much it must have been debated internally before they decided to alter him.
Not quite, the Detroit Part and all that is true but "Emiya in jail" wasn't the inspiration, it's a Joke the Artist Made when during the Design development. He said that he noticed that He looked Like a prisoner and Not that He was based on it
@@akiakob5002 Either of the interpretations still says a lot of the type of mentality the illustrator went into when designing him. The joke alone is distasteful, and FGO doubles down on it on the story by having Tamamo Cat say it too. I mean, let’s not be naive, this is just Japan’s xenophobia rearing it’s ugly head as per usual.
His nickname by the JP playerbase prior to Cat calling him Demiya in the CCC event was Bobmiya. "Bob" being a stereotypical black American name amongst the Japanese. Take that as you will. It's a credit to the writers that Emiya Alter is still an interesting character regardless of your personal feelings about the design. Oh my god, why is Jesus holding Astolfo so heckin' cute?! I suppose it helps that Astolfo is canonically Christian and has literally performed holy miracles before. Oh, absolutely, he was infamously brutal, which is part of how he managed to get things done. He was literally the quiet kid with a keen interest in guns that snapped. Oda Nobunaga's Zodiac sign is Cancer and Chinese Zodiac sign is Horse. That was surprisingly easy to Google search. Anastasia was a Grand Duchess, not a princess. "Who's the most evil caster?" Gilles de Rais. Look him up. It's quite easy to explained da Vinci with a single meme format: "He turned himself into the Mona Lisa! Funniest shit I've ever seen." Surprised you didn't introduce Bradamante as "Astolfo's hot cousin; sorry, fellas, she's married".
Ivan was considered great at begining of his reign but later gone crazy because he thought everyone was after his head (especially nobility), in fact so much that he made a whole kind of guards that had been allowed to kill nobility if they had any suspicion that said person was after the throne. I can be remembering this wrong because it has been 5 years since i read his biography.
Duno man. Christopher Columbus is view as a hero here in Brazil, mostly because the schools "forget" to tell the whole story. Oh and here on Rio grande do Sul we have a day to celebrate slave hunters, the bandeirantes
Honestly most Latin Americans do not care because slavery was just part of the culture back then. He honestly did what the rest of the Conquistadores would go on to repeat, and the crimes he was captured for and convicted of where later proven to be mostly slander by people who wanted his rights (thus why his family received a lot of their territorial rights back later on). And if Americans consider him the devil, they should look at their own founding Fathers. They may be surprised at what they find.

How Ivan got lightning powers was apparently a mistranslation issue. So, someone mistranslated the Japanese word for "Terrible" into "Lightning Emperor" or something. And nobody bothered to correct it.
Just to note, Japanese names are organized in the reverse order compared to in the west, so a name like "Akechi Mitsuhide" if used in the west would actually be "Mitsuhide Akechi", so Mitsuhide was actually his given/first name, while Akechi was his surname/last name.
But while Abigail was the Final Boss of Salem, she wasn't the Big Bad! She didn't even have any evil intent in her storyline. Raum was the real Big Bad of Salem, having possessed Randolph Carter's body and continually manipulating Abigail to become a gate for Sut-Typhon to enter reality from his cage of non-existence. The other villains had more agency (Schez, for instance, fearing death and acting to end Magic so she can't die again).
If you make another video with a "guess the big bad" you should put the evil form of the characters, like kama be Kama/Mara, Kiara Beast III/R, abby first ascension and abby third ascension.
Woof. I'm actually not so sure I agree with Ivan as the Big Bad of LB1. It's true he's the Lostbelt's King, but he actually spends most of the story asleep. Anastasia, working with Kadoc, is the real driving force behind the story, or at least that's what I interpreted it as.
I disagree with the LB 1 choice. Anastasia should be the big bad since her and her master were the ones who made the whole ploy and used Ivern as their tool. Even at the final moment it is them that we fought. Not Ivern.
@@KeiosKod no? By this logic Scheherazade would still be the big bad cause she’s the one that’s plotting with the Demon Pillar? My logic is that Anastasia and her master were the ones that plotted the whole rebellion and used Ivern as their pawn as well just so Kadoc can make Anastasia the king of the LB. How are they not the big bad in this situation?
She isn't actually. BB is a copy of, and physically identical to, AI Sakura and by extension Sakura Matou. Sakura herself is canonically stated to be a D-cup, both in her character materials, and out loud in story by Taiga.
Ivan has lightning powers because of a translation pun. In Russian, his name is "Иван Грозный", with "грозный" meaning "intimidating", coming from the word "угроза"="threat". But there is a word "гроза", meaning "thunderstorm", so out of context you can translate "Грозный" as "Thunderous".

Kyohime did murder someone because they lied to her so her alignment makes sense
I was unaware of that. Jesus dude
An example of an unstoppable force (Shirou's ideals) meeting an immovable object (Kiara). Or is that the other way around?

Surprised you didn't introduce Bradamante as "Astolfo's hot cousin; sorry, fellas, she's married".

1. She's the servant of a Crypter
2. She's the "empress"/"Tsar" of Losbelt 1 after Ivan died ( Even anastasia said herself that Russia is under her control after Ivan gone ) so you could make Ivan and Anastasia as the Villain in Losbelt 1.

To be fair, it’s hard to translate that accurately into English without having her sound haughty
Just to note, Japanese names are organized in the reverse order compared to in the west, so a name like "Akechi Mitsuhide" if used in the west would actually be "Mitsuhide Akechi", so Mitsuhide was actually his given/first name, while Akechi was his surname/last name.

Technically edgy shirou ruler is the real big bad while douman was side character
For the record, BB's name was chosen for TYPE-MOON's game development subsidiary, studio BB.

48:24 for YEARS I’ve been waiting for someone to make a Salem/Destiny Crucible joke and it has finally happened!
I disagree with the LB 1 choice. Anastasia should be the big bad since her and her master were the ones who made the whole ploy and used Ivern as their tool. Even at the final moment it is them that we fought. Not Ivern.
Kadok-Anastasia are antagonists, the villain of the part is Ivan since he's basically a great catastrophe or a typical sleeping dragon
By that logic, Columbus would have been the main villain of Agartha, despite Scheherazade being the secret orchestrator of events.
