Note: Hey guys! After doing some post stream research I was entirely incorrect about the Dioscuri. Must have been a memory lapse on a different set of figures. But, given that both got it correct it would not effect the score outcome. Thought I'd clear that up!

Thought that it made sense if you accepted Fate's syncretism between Dioscuri and Lugalirra and Meslamtaea, the Mesopotamian twin gods of the Gemini constellation, but nope, somehow, across all of history, all gods associated with the Gemini were always both male.

@@artofthepossible7329 That's one of the more interesting parts of the Nasuverse, a lot of the genderbends(or major lore changes) do have some sort of precedence. Just that precedence is usually based on obscure bullshit almost no one knows about. Like the fact there are older versions of the King Arthur legends that claim Arthur was a woman in disguise. It's just like 900 years old, and a version no one ever cared about.
The Daikokuten servant you roll in the gacha is 100% male. You never see him because he's too lazy to ever show up when you summon him. Every time you try, his maids just show up and go "sorry, Daikokuten couldn't make it this time, but he did send us to help you".
So he's not a genderbend by any stretch. Just off-screen somewhere.
Yang Gui Fei probably has messed up feet because of art, but if you want a historical justification, several empires in China practiced footbinding.

Are you confusing Pollux from the myth with one of their five sisters? Castor and Pollux are explicitly stated to be half-brothers. Their sisters are Timandra, Phoebe, Philonoe, Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra.
Nah they genderbent one of the two I forget which one I think Pollux into a girl. He said the only reason that’s apparent is so they could use a pair of twin voice actors

Yeah I heard a lot about this tradition in china it was called footbinding I guess? It became very popular in 10th century for some weird reason
The term for that is "lotus feet". And the shoe being used is metal. I remember going to an exhibit where they have preserved corpses of people and that is one of the subjects. Imagine the feet being squeezed so that it is smaller.
That did exist earlier than the Qing dynasty (which was when it was big), but the Tang liked more rounded women. On top of that, she was a famous dancer so she couldn't have done it.
Nemo NP1 can also be outdamaged when not on a water field by a 3*. Mandricardo is an excellent servant

Im just sad that with the main interlude of imaginary scramble coming to jp and the banners for it....we didn't get a single buff for him and other characters in the story

I mean.... that's not really a fair comparison, Mandricardo is a ST servant. Nemo is a farmer. Unless your farming 90++ nodes running Double Castoria and Oberon or something. Mandi is gonna do more damage alot of the times.

im pretty sure that the line of nemo was an intentional joke about the genderbends from the writters.
It's more that they're supposed to be mostly consistent, rather than randomly happening. That characters who are female in Fate are female... because they've always been. Artoria, in Fate's setting, was *always* a female. Same with most of them. Da Vinci is a female because he gave himself magical plastic surgery, post-summoning, and is an exception with an actual purpose.
These aren't deep reasons, or Doylist reasons. But internally to the setting, characters don't suddenly change their sex after death.
And then there's Jacques de Molay and Van Gogh. Who are because of Foreigner bullshit.

"Always been"? Lolno. Nemo is coping hard. There _have_ been good reasons for some of them, usually the ones that _didn't_ originate in FGO. Artoria (and by extension Mordred) being genderbent adds a lot to the character(s), Frankenstein's Monster makes perfect sense since they simply swapped the order Frankenstein created the male and female monsters in, and Jack the Ripper... isn't a genderbend by sheer technicality, though I like to think she could be summoned with the appearance of any of the kids within her Bounded Field and she simply appeared in the form most suitable to Reika.
"The game is stupid." Yeah, the merging Heroic Spirits and alternate universe things are way out of hand, half the Servants aren't actually what they're supposed to be at this point. It actively makes me like Servants less; I'd much rather see interesting interpretations of the myths, legends, and history.

I think you mean, "good reasons" as in Doylist ones. When Nemo is clearly talking about Watsonian reasons. Nemo doesn't care that Artoria being female is "interesting as a character arc", Nemo cares about "why is the king of the Britons a chick".
Yes, Ushiwaka and others are pretty much just to rebalance the gender ratio, but from Nemo's perspective, they're the same person as they were in "history". Da Vinci did it himself. Musashi isn't actually Musashi. Etc. But a man being summoned as a female? Weird. There *should* be a meaningful reason that the Servant themselves can explain.
On the other hand, there's Jacques de Molay, both of them. Who have "poor" Watsonian logic (a space alien did it), but good Doylist ones (unlike Van Gogh, being used to the male design beforehand ups the creepy factor significantly). Similarly, Van Gogh is female for a meaningful Doylist reason, it's just not executed as effectively.
(Admittedly, Paul Bunyan is also the same case of weirdness, but let's accept that Riyo is some sort of monstrous space alien.)

I want Fate fans trying to guess Servants by looking at historical pictures.
So there are three classes of genderbent characters from what I can tell:
The Incorrect Information, who are figures who were stretched to fit the idea that we just misinterpreted their identities. This one tends to have the ones that are the biggest stretches imo. Artoria, Ushi, Jing Ke, Pollux, etc.
The Actual Genderbends, who directly change gender in-story despite being in-universe the other. This includes Pseudo-Servants who would be possessing a character of a different gender. Red Hare, Van Gogh, Ganesha, Quetz, Foreigner de Molay, etc.
The Joke characters, who are genderbent specifically because Fate/ is making fun of itself about how often its done so. Okita and Bunyan are the iconics of this group.
As a Latina I cannot emphasize enough how excited I was when bird looking dude said “I KNOW THAT FACKER” and then pointed out DON QUIXOTE the legend

I might want to point out that besides some joke characters who Type/Moon never addresses why they are female, most gender ends, especially serious story ones, have excuses for them. Be it as simple as “history was wrong/falsified”, or they are divinities who live by body jumping and the god just chose that vessel (Quetz), or they were forcibly genderswapped (future servant), etc. Yeah, the excuses may be flimsy but that does not mean Nemo is incorrect.

Caenis is, funnily enough, a reverse genderbent, Caenis was born female, one so beautiful that Poseidon raped her. He then concede her as a sort of compensation and she asked for becoming a male with an impregnable body to never have to go through that again and changed her name to Caenus.
Because this is Caenis and not Caenus, she is summoned as a woman but with a similar constitution to her male counterpart.

The gender thing has to do with in lore, there is always some reason as to why the gender is different. Whether that reason is good or makes sense is an entirely different story.
The Irl reason is obviously because history and mythology are heavily on the male side, so they need to even things out a bit.
Caenis/Caenus is the sole exception that was gender bent in their own story.

As such Caenis really doesn’t care if you call them he/she as long as you don’t insinuate they’re acting like some weak willed woman. Hell, they even accept that, currently, they are a woman, whether they like it or not. Wodime called Caenis by male pronouns, but the player character and Chaldea members refer to them by female pronouns. The only reason for Caenis having Caeneus’ personality, from a lore standpoint, is that when Caeneus died, Poseidon’s gift was undone, and so he returned to being Caenis before transforming into a golden bird and flying away.
From a game perspective, it’s just an excuse to have Caeneus be female without bending the rules too much.
