The whole Bester arc is amazing writing, you dislike him, then hate him, then feel sorry for him, then like him, then hate him again etc etc. He's a real rollercoaster!
Psi Corps has the Greek letter Psi as their symbol (Ψ). Omega, or rather, Black Omega is a squadron attached to Psi Corps, piloted by telepaths, and are really good pilots, built by Bester. Remember in Severed Dreams eho was bombing Mars? An Omega squadron. Could have been a different squadron, but my theory that that was specifically Bester pulling the trigger.
G'Kar is not a telepath. He gained temporary abilities on the drug. Bester even said the drug was a failure as far as the intended goal of producing telepaths. Shuttle from the ground to waiting ship carrying Star Furies.
Edited as your conversation got there in the end. Michael nailed it - Telepaths stop Shadows like the book says so what better way to counter telepaths than other telepaths? That's why, when presented with the chance to fill their ships with a countermeasure, they took it. You dont have to be a telepath to merge with Shadow ships.
Terribly plausible, too. Given how humans treat telepaths... taking them away from their families, isolating them to live only with other telepaths until adulthood, no one ever really trusting them or PsiCorps itself... yea. One of them taking Bester's path, for the good of "their people" is very believeable. Heck, it would actually be more unbelieveable if at least a few *didn't* react like Bester did, and come to view "normals" the same way he does.
Ahh, Bester... The man you love to hate to love. Some brilliant writing again. The cohesiveness of the story was so next level at the time. Like here, Bester knew that his teleopaths were going missing and he couldn't find them and heard of these shipments to the Shadows and put things together and we get where this episode takes off. He has an idea that the war material isn't exactly guns and armor since why would the Shadows want any of that... Just brilliant show with excellent writing and next level acting! Even the graphics of the 90's don't bother you too much in this show.
There are three different size Shadow Vessels. The smallest is about the size of a one-man fighter. It has a big hole in front that shoots and it has small spikes. The medium size one is about the size of the White Star. It has curved spikes that jut forward from the back. Its a transport. The largest ship is the one we see most often. The largest one is the one we saw the White Star defeat last 😊time. It has two levels and long spikes. Also the largest size ship can carry several of the smallest ships inside it.
Funnily enough those large ships could actually be two different ships. Since it's difficult to judge size in space. The Shadows have a carrier vessel and an assault vessel. And we've seen both on screen, but the carrier is a bit larger than the assault vessel.
Great episode, starting to kick things into high gear. A bit of clarification of info that easily could have been forgotten or misinterpreted from previous episodes. The telepath drug doesn't turn anyone into a telepath. The Psicorp wanted it to be able to make real telepaths, but it can't. It's a drug like every other drug people take for fun. You get the biggest "high" the 1st time and then diminishing returns then on. It causes the telepath gene to activate for a short out of control time. Each time you use the drug you need to take more for the same effect with greater damages caused. G'Kar wanting it as a easily hidden weapon might have worked, but could have just as easily backfired (you can never trust a drug addict). The shadow ships don't need telepaths to operate, just a biological being. "Telepaths make hearing the machine difficult" is pretty much what the telepath said in this episode --> thus them being weapons components. Use telepaths to make getting "jammed" harder. The Narn's history said the telepaths/mind walkers drove out the evil, but were essentially wiped out while doing so. Bester is one of thee best characters, never could get enough episodes with him as a primary player. With the talk of a B5 reboot floating around at times, I would much rather see a parallel story told to the one we have already. While we know what happens on B5, it'd be nice to have a storyline focused on the Piscorp, Centauri royal court, rangers doing their spy recon, other rouge earthforce ships, or many other such little known parts of the B5 universe.
One of my favorite episodes of the series. Bester being a major part of it. All of his episodes are fantastic. Thanks to a "lucky" heart attack that the actor had, he was almost cast in a different role on the show which would have been a one shot.
Earf at war with Earth. We have a weapon. Bester "As long as I get what I want" Fanboy theories are hilarious. Throw 50 spitballs at the wall. Then celebrate when one sticks
If you want a great exploration about bringing generals and warriors from the past and interacting with them, read "The Gamester Wars", a set of 3 novels by William Forstchen, where the heroes given a second chance are Alexander the Great, the 47 Ronin, and Napoleon; they face off with both heroes and villains (such as the Assassins), both human and alien.
Not a spoiler because it is never touched on: It doesn't seem to me like anyone else has organized their telepaths in a psi-core like organization. The way Earth distrusts telepaths and tries to control them makes Earth unique as an easy procurement location.
To be fair to Bester he's not entirely wrong in his beliefs. Because normal humans hate and fear telepaths they created psy core as a leash so he views normals as the enemy and his every action is to further his goal of a unified powerful psy core which can protect his people from what he sees as an inevitable conflict.
Why 'human' telepaths? and not some other races...... I assume that to the Shadows, it didn't matter who's telepaths they would use.... whichever race was easiest to harvest for their purpose, and that was most likely whichever race signed on with their agenda first.....
The whole setup of the PSI Corps and telepaths that don't want to work for the Corps made everything very convenient for the Shadows. They could arrange it so that no one would ask questions where those telepaths were. With the other races we have seen telepaths are much more integrated into the general society and people would have asked questions if they started to vanish. And then Clarke gave them an in.
The human telepaths all being corralled into one single organization probably made us very low hanging fruit. There may be other reasons going after humans were preferable but... those can explored at a later date.
shadows were used not only by human telepaths, but also by telepaths of other races. The War of Shadows is much more global. The series shows only that part of it that is associated with the participation of the Babylon 5 station.

I’ve watched the entirety of the Babylon 5 run during the Bush-Iraq war years, the authoritarian cop state Trump years, and now the bumbling Biden and his ICC convicted lackey (you know who) and I’ve found relevance in all three periods. No, please _DO_ continue the politics. The adults are in the room.

I have to wonder if this isnt supreme satire... since FauxNews is the network that has done nothing BUT LIE for decades.. and Rupert Murdoch likes it that way.
They've literally argued in court that they are entertainment and not news. They've said under oath that nobody reasonable would believe what they say. They literally just had to pay over 3/4 of a billion dollars because they lied about the election. You really believe that only one network out of all of them are the keepers of truth? Part of maintaining journalistic integrity is that other organizations will fact check what one is reporting and by taking what all of them are saying and figuring out what they have in common, you can eliminate any biases from specific organizations. By only believing one news source, you are handicapping your ability to compare and contrast information. I think you need to check yourself. Your media illiteracy is showing. Also, it's really not cool to comment threats to people on youtube. Be better.

I can never decide if I appreciate Morden or Bester more.
Even his book arc is like that. Very compelling stuff.

My headcanon is that Black Omega are using the rebellion as cover for shutting down part of the railroad with extreme prejudice
