Pete I think you and Dave accomplished what you set out to: do a very light resto with a few classic Speed Academy touches to bring back that excitement about the vehicle you mentioned. I think you guys knocked it out of the park. No one wants to call their baby ugly, and not that you did, but it always takes some courage to say you're not satisfied with something and make a change. Really feel like you made a lot of great changes to the car!
Black center lock would be a real nice touch. The brush nut draws to much attention to the lack of lug nuts. But looks awesome regardless!!! Great job guys.
I have quite a bit of experience designing wheels (I am a designer for a large oem), and I think the wheels are great. Definitely capture the flavor of a classic BBS wheel. The one thing I might change if they were mine- color matching the center lug to the gold. It would make it be less of a focal point...your eye would focus more on the design of the face than go right to the center. The rear wheel could be a little more concave (assuming there is clearance), like the old BBS aero cover wheels. But overall very nice, and a huge improvement over the black/black Rotiforms.
yes the wheels are fine, colors personal choice...i dont like wheel spacers to space wheels like them less to convert to center lock. would hope for some kind of hub conversion in the future...
I'd love to see the sheer and fatigue tests of torsion/twisting on aluminum like that...... I hope those hubs stay together on track days! - EDIT: get that speedo hooked up!
Largely depends on the alloy...Its probably 6061, which is very malleable so fatigue is probably ok, but its not the strongest. If its 7075-T6 its very strong but very brittle. I would guess since its a solid piece that its probably fine, but it would indeed be interesting to see if these could hold up to track use. Maybe they are only intended for street use?
I am with you on not being used to the center lock wheels. Maybe if the spoke design extended all the way to the center or some other ribbed design so it’s not so flat would have helped. I think having the lag adds to the experience. :) looks great!
The wheels are so beautiful omg. Perfect for the car. Although the center locks are a little sketchy. At least in the Porsche service world. We use a very thin layer of anti seize on the mating surface. Also never ever torque center locks with the wheels on the ground. However that’s following procedures with a Porsche oem center lock which is very different. I hope yours work out well. Very cool.
I was torn when I saw the wheels on IG but in the video they look amazing. Like you said, classic looks with a modern feel. Really woke up the exterior. Love this car.
The hub adapters to run center locks probably *seem* like a get out of jail free card for owners looking to swap wheel setups without needing to change out the hubs themselves but what I imagine was a pretty big advantage of having the custom Augment wheels created was that you were able to perfectly match the hub/spacer dimensions with the wheel offset. Otherwise, if guys out there go grab a set of those adapters, they'll need to pay very close attention to the offset of whatever wheel they source and it'll likely need to be an abnormally low offset. Which is fine, just, that domino effect is real. Car is 🤌, beautiful.
The Left hand thread wheel nut typically goes on the right side of the car. " loosen to the front, tighten to the rear". I've never worked on a racecar that wasn't that way. Be it a LMP, GTLM, GT2, GT3, Indycar or Ferrari. The Car and wheels look fantastic by the way.
I own an ‘87 930 as well and share all your criticisms of the shifting and trans. But the car still gives me great pleasure to drive and drive hard. I have to remind myself that it’s 40 year old car based on even older tech and engineering. It’s a keeper.
The gearbox is part of the experience, embrace it! I think these old 911s are far better on a winding road that stoplight to stoplight. So many nuances to the experience
Amazing build, my only issue is that I would have went with a 5 speed transmission. You guys put a lot of work in this, an extra gear would wake this car up
Carbon tutorial was awesome! Wheels are very classy. PLEASE PLEASE get this on the track for just a few laps. I miss your track videos, and there is no substitute for 1980’s Porsches. Id like to see that proven 🤓🤓🤓
Love the wheels, and loved the carbon fiber tutorial. My GF loves PT anyway, but she was genuinely enraptured with everything about the carbon fiber application.
LOVE the centerlock. gold meshies look good on damn near anything and the 930 is no exception. hot hot hot! i've been looking forward to seeing this car for so long, kinda bummed the series is over but I hope this isn't the last we see of it!
Genius invention for a center lug wheel adaptor. That is a must have on my future project car for sure! Beautiful build and excellent choice on the wheels.
I think future carbon fiber work would be awesome! It’s something I would like more practical knowledge of for my projects. Love the new wheels! Had the retro look with modern technology.
Coming from driving a 914 I can totally relate to the transmission being a frustrating let down, you could change it to a more modern g50. I eventually swapped my engine in the 914 into a 1.8t big turbo and a Boxster transmission just for this reason now it's an absolute blast to drive!
443 FT/LBS hot damn in that little peanut that thing must be a riot! Wonderful engineering! The wheels are incredible and I really wasn't happy when I heard you were gonna swap them!
The key is dilute the mix with 50% denatured alcohol. Apply several coats. What this does is the alcohol allows it to penetrate. The alcohol evaporates and the pin holes are completely eliminated. The sanding will be easier as well. Then spray 2k clear if not the sun will destroy the epoxy.
Centre locks are a pita on the street if you get a flat, very cool though. But honestly prefer the black wheels. If they were just silver think it would work also. Cool car though chaps!
The gold is a much better choice for wheel, but wish it would have been a modified turbo 5 spoke over the BBS style. As for the Carbon fiber diy... I loved it! Thank you for the solid tutorial, I will be doing this to my knockoff rocket bunny FC Rx7 spoiler.
Wow! I am usually not a big fan of gold colored anything, but these wheels look GREAT on your car! Awesome looking car. Love all the changes you made. Tastefully done, and classy looking.
Love G Body Porsches, but I don't love either wheel choice. Black wheels where good but they didn't pop just enough. These new wheels look great, love the center lock design, but they clash and don't look aggressive enough. I just love simple 5 spoke RUF wheels or even deep Fuchs.
Was hoping for aftermarket deep-dish Fuchs but these work! The center lock is solid, but the flat area where the lugs would go needs detail (like beveled in or something).
On the wheels I’ve been watching people put center locks on, and it seems very hard to get off but it looks great and on the carbon fiber that is definitely on the list of things to do/learn to do in this feature
Those wheels are pretty sick!! I’m a fan of them! The wrap job is a ton of work tho! Probably cheaper just buying a carbon lip especially after all your labor into it.
I used to drive those new back in the 80s as a car jockey... I don't remember the 4 speed being difficult, I used to make them kick out sideways in between first and second from wheelspin. Going into 3rd you'd be doing 140 so it would just chirp. 😅 Love the car... I'm jelly.
At first glance, I thought gold centers, I'm not sure about that color. Then I saw the emblem in the front with the wheels in the shot, and was like yeah, great choice.
Only because you asked for feedback. I think those wheels are too busy. I prefer the more subtle yet strong look of the Ruf/Speedline or the Campagnolo / Group 4 wheels. But if that is my only gripe I can live with that . Nice Work !
I didn’t like the wheels initially, but by the end I did. I think what’s throwing me is the center of the face? it needs some depth or texture to fill that flat/smooth area. Looks amazing otherwise!
LOVE the build, LOVE the car!! Totally subjective take, but the wheels just killed it for me personally (although impressively engineered!). Big, dishy CCW Classic's in black or dark bronze are some of the best fit for a 930 (or a 911 in general IMO) and the Rotiforms were close to that look. All good though ... if you guys are stoked on the new wheels, that's all that matters!
The wheels fit the car just brilliant, soooo much better than the black ones👍🏻 the fact that they have a somewhat “vintage” design which complement the rest of the car. You couldn’t have made a better choice Peter🤟🏻 And Peter, I see you wearing a Throtl shirt, make sure the guys from Throtl wear a speed academy shirt in one of their video’s, will bring you a bunch more subscribers!
Those wheels are absolutely perfect. Just the right amount of early 90's European Car mag nostalgia mixed with modern geometry. Worth every penny!
Negative. They look dooky AF.
I feel like it needs a centre cap or some sort of sticker on the centre of the gold section looks to bare and smooth

The old 930s are notorious for problems like he said that's just how it is

or instead of the gold do it in black with chrome lip
@@m4xripperthink last ep they mentioned it was too much black with the old wheels
@@m4xripper black with a chrome lip doesn't look good on anything, especially on black cars
Anodized Red/Blue for left Right (ala the Carerra GT) would be 😍😍😍😍

The new looks good though

Exactly what concerns me. That thin aluminum, yikes 😮

@@brianmeneses8717well I think is a cruiser for Pete not a track car
Not a good idea billet aluminum. It’s a safety hazard
You guys killed it with that lip! Also I love the retro center lock look for the wheels, definitely more Porsche than the previous set.
I am with you on not being used to the center lock wheels. Maybe if the spoke design extended all the way to the center or some other ribbed design so it’s not so flat would have helped. I think having the lag adds to the experience. :) looks great!

why shouldn’t you torque the center locks with the wheels on the ground?
It definitely reminds me of a specific 930, that would be out ripping on the Wangan during midnight!
Can't say I love the wheel setup but great build overall.
This is by far, the coolest wheel setup on your channel, ever ❤

Hearing y’all criticize the work besides just explaining what was done was so refreshing and humanizing. ❤
Out of all the Auto UA-camrs that recently got Air-Cooled Porsches....This one is the Best so far!!!
I got this one 10 years ago but its good to be riding the wave!

The carbon fiber tutorial was dope!!! Glad you guys showed that. The lip turned out great too!
Speed Academy and Dustin Williams have arguably the best UA-camr car collections.

That turned out great. Exhaust is a work of art, wheels are a work of art, body work flows really well... the whole thing is pleasing
Amazing build, my only issue is that I would have went with a 5 speed transmission. You guys put a lot of work in this, an extra gear would wake this car up

The wheels look perfect. When I was growing up, all the best cars out of Germany had the BBS wheels and they were fantastic.
I think future carbon fiber work would be awesome! It’s something I would like more practical knowledge of for my projects. Love the new wheels! Had the retro look with modern technology.
25:50 I feel the excitement! A PDK in that?! BANG, BANG,BANG! Hells yeah!
Center lock gold BBS style! yessir! Man, Dan made some awesome wheels and spacers! Never in a million years would I have thought of those adapters!
What I’ll say about all the mods and choices you made on the car is this, you made me want one
love the center lock look and wheel package, very appropriate. Almost makes me want chrome back around windows and maybe lights.
Coming from driving a 914 I can totally relate to the transmission being a frustrating let down, you could change it to a more modern g50. I eventually swapped my engine in the 914 into a 1.8t big turbo and a Boxster transmission just for this reason now it's an absolute blast to drive!

New wheels look awesome and that center lock system is genius! Also, awesome job on that lip!!!
Massive improvement from the old black wheels. I like the old school BBS look.
What a car! That centre lock system scared me just watching it on the dyno 😮
carbon skinning is very easy and DYI friendly. I did some parts of my interior and they turn out pretty much perfect from the first attempt :)
Been following augment for the awesome wheels they make for bmw.
A pleasure to watch you guys work on this build!
Trying something new with the wheels … look great guys 👍🏻

Thumbs up for the wheels. Gold faces with polished lips look fantastic
Centerlock is cool, not wild about the look.
I ordered a set of Conti Extreme Contact Sport 02's for my BMW today. Thanks for the tip. 👍
The gold is a much better choice for wheel, but wish it would have been a modified turbo 5 spoke over the BBS style.

Perfect wheel setup . Wouldn’t change a thing ! The whole car looks mint now . 👌🏻
Wow! I am usually not a big fan of gold colored anything, but these wheels look GREAT on your car! Awesome looking car. Love all the changes you made. Tastefully done, and classy looking.
Dude those wheels are absolutely stunning what a great job Dan did
Interesting look PT, I like it. Pete's become like a pro fabricator!
The wheels are perfect, but damn... those black wheels with the silvet hardware went hard too!
Love G Body Porsches, but I don't love either wheel choice. Black wheels where good but they didn't pop just enough. These new wheels look great, love the center lock design, but they clash and don't look aggressive enough. I just love simple 5 spoke RUF wheels or even deep Fuchs.
Wheels, RUF bumpers and wing are giving this thing big “Mid Night Club/Wangan highway” vibes.
These wheels are dope, I’ve got an 81 911sc that I’ve been looking for different wheels for. This sold me on a set of gold wheels whatever I go with
Wow those wheels are badass I absolutely love them and they look amazing on the 911 i cant stop looking at it
Was hoping for aftermarket deep-dish Fuchs but these work! The center lock is solid, but the flat area where the lugs would go needs detail (like beveled in or something).
Looks killer. If you ever switch up the front bumper again I would do the fat 935 front bumper with the big foglights
Was honestly feeling the first pair more
Love Love the new wheels fits the era of the 930's from the 70's and 80's
Normally I'd say a Fuchish wheel for an early 911 or 930, but these wheels are perfection and look modern and period correct at the same time
Epic wheels, didn’t realise how much they could change a car. From a lost RWB influenced build to full Bad Boys.
Looks great! I called gold BBS LM wheels in the last video. Glad I wasn't too far off.

Absolutely slick, basket weave, center lock, what a killer one off setup.
YES!.. Love the wheel setup. I have been wanting to do the single lug conversion to my NB Miata for years
The diy carbon turned out great and I’d be a lot more keen to try it myself now
I used to drive those new back in the 80s as a car jockey... I don't remember the 4 speed being difficult, I used to make them kick out sideways in between first and second from wheelspin. Going into 3rd you'd be doing 140 so it would just chirp. 😅

Bravo Dan. I hope you’re ready for a massive expansion. The masses are coming.
OMG that is my DREAM car. Beautiful build guys. Perfecto.
That power level in insane in a small lightweight car like this!
Great wheel choice! Much better contrast of colors. Keep up the quality work and videos!
Love it Pete! The carbon was cool to see, I've always been interested in it.

Love the new wheels and the center lock. It makes the build.
I am a huge fan of that BBS style of wheel, though not as keen on the centre-lock. Still would prefer the monster wing on though
Okay now that the old wheels are gone, I can say that the car finally looks propper. The old wheels just never looked right to me in the 911.
Great choice for wheels. Compliments the retro flavour of the Porche 👌🏻
Murdered out with the gold wheels...looking fly!
Those wheels are absolutely gorgeous and I really like the center lock, very race inspired luxury look

yeah makes me really want to try at carbon fiber wrap !
nice video as always guys!
Perfect wheels!! Loving the center locks!
Love those new Augment wheels! Flows so nice!
Love the build. Wheels look so much better!
Love these wheels! A Fuchs (or Fuchs-style) wheel would've also been perfect.
