    Simple, precise information. Too many videos I've seen that turn smoking meats like like you have to be a rocket scientist! I was just given a grill with an offset smoker for my birthday but didn't really know how to use it as I've never had one before. Thank you for this video...this I can understand and that's why I subscribed. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽

    i prefer to use natural lump charcoal that does not give food a lighter fluid taste, and i also use a starter chimney that works great to start your coals without any lighter fluid. Weber makes a great one.

      Lmao. You clicked on someone's video on a subject just to tell them what you prefer? SMH. Internet cats these days are so goofy. Why are you even watching a video on the subject if you already know what to do?

      @@TopBillinSportscould it possibly be to see other methods, and giving feedback?

    • @TopBillinSports
      @TopBillinSports 9 місяців тому +1

      @@teewadleyiii4433 - No. It's to do exactly what he did: Grandstand for some attention. Nobody needs someone clicking on their video being an expert. Simply make your own video. If you want to see other methods, what would be the purpose of telling everyone what you do? Stop justifying people's ego.

    • @teewadleyiii4433
      @teewadleyiii4433 9 місяців тому +1

      @@TopBillinSports I'm not justifying anything. Op simply provided his opinion. Do you know if the content creator didn't use his advice on lump charcoal vs Matchlight?

    • @TopBillinSports
      @TopBillinSports 9 місяців тому +1

      @teewadleyiii4433 - You're still trying to justify it because you are undoubtedly pompous enough to click on a tutorial video that's literally labeled "101" to tell someone what you do. The OP didn't make a video asking for what others do, he made one showing what he does for people looking to start out grilling, hence the 101 label. Everyone knows what type of person steps on someone's toes telling them what they prefer to do; they always have to make their presence known.

    Darryl, we just bought the same smoker that you have. I haven't used it yet , but I had the idea of using charcoal just to get the fire going and use wood for the rest of the cook. Thanks for confirming my idea.

    Comments about appearant high-mileage on the smoker...
    That rust is from moisture ; caused from remaining outside in the weather, without a cover. The manufacturer makes covers that fit the grill and smoker unit, which are also sold separately as a small, more portable grill. They are built to endure another Vietnam War or two ; good thick steel and very well built, sold at Lowes. I have both, the larger grill plus an additional smoker unit for a portable unit. Char Griller is made in the south, and the matching covers are made to withstand the weather.

    You have to be sure not to leave that wood ash in there past the day after you cook. Lye is make from wood ash and water. Basically, you are allowing it to rust out by leaving that wood ash in, and letting it get wet in the rain.

I been smokin for 25 years but I cant get this thing to work right lol it smothers it self out with ashes after 3 to 5 hours and I gotta pull the fire pan dump it and start over. I've tried big splits like you got and wood hunks smaller but I dont know it either spikes or drops out no matter how I do the vents. I've had offsets before but maybe because the lid dont seal tight? Good video thanks buddy! Have a great day

      You have to keep a watchful eye on it when using larger wood pieces normally try to add a new log once an hour but check in between. Smaller wood burner a lot quicker but if it’s burning too fast just keep adding wood. Open your side vent all the way up and try to catch a good wind flow into the fire box

    Nice Video, but trust me those few charcoal that hadn't turned completely white/gray would have been just fine to put your wood on. If your wood was warm, then you could have put wood, and your food on at that point and without fear of your food taking on bad smoke. I've done that for years. So every charcoal doesn't have to be completely white, especially when it's just a few like I seen or at least from my

    Get a charcoal chimney. Use lump charcoal. When ready dump it near you're intake. Use the other side of your fire box to stage your wood. Gets it hot, ignites almost instantly, instead of smoldering. I get much better results doing it this way. Easier to control fire management imo.
