I am a new beekeeper in Alberta, Canada. I just started watching your UA-cam videos and very informative. My bees would love to be in Florida. This week we are at -30C (-22F)and windchills of -40C
Hi Pierre, Thank you for watching and commenting. Mercy, you are dealing with some serious cold there. Still, the bees adapt for the cold and there are some amazing Canadian beekeepers. All the best to you, Sir 😎
Great video. I'm a first-time viewer of your channel. I'll definitely check out more of your videos, but I'll keep in mind we have very different weather in West Virginia than you have in Florida. I am a second-year beekeeper and I am pretty positive I'm going to try to run a resource Hive this year. I have two hives and then I will have my double nuv resource Hive. You pointed out some excellent reasons to keep a resource Hive in the apiary. My local Beeks shop is selling resource hives without frames for $109. I think that is a reasonable price.
Hi Regina, Sorry for the late response. You are correct that local conditions make a huge difference in the way we beekeep. I actually started my channel because there were so few Florida beekeeping UA-cam videos out there and we really don’t have much of a winter down here. Glad you enjoyed my video.
@@bruceandhisbees1770 Its no problem. I love connecting with other Beekeepers, seeing how different Beeks manage an Apiary. The Beekeeping community is great.
I’ve been preaching the gospel of resource hives/nucs, Since I started three years ago to other hobbyist around me in northern Iowa. This has mostly fallen on deaf ears, so guess who’s been selling late season Nucs to re-queen hives for a premium price August and September. excellent video and strategy that more keepers need to take advantage of!
@@bruceandhisbees1770 that’s great and I appreciate it. Would love to do a collab sometime. You are quite a ways away though but who knows? Maybe we should work something out someday.
Since the citrus industry In Polk county, central Florida, is nearly gone we don’t get the single big surge in resources you mentioned. Things are always changing and nature adapting
Great video Bruce. I’ll definitely be implementing your strategy as it makes perfect sense even to a beginner like me. I guess the art is to manage the resource hive and prevent it outgrowing the Nuc box. From that point of view, is it merely a case or removing brood every now and then and reinforcing a regular hive with the frame?
Hi Andy, Thanks for watching. You are exactly right: If you don't need to boost a weak hive, you can keep the size of your nuc in control by donating brood to your strong hives for more honey production. Cheers,
@@bruceandhisbees1770 thanks for the advice. I’m in Italy - as ever people do things differently just about everywhere, so I’m going to bet that my local Bee Keepers are going to wonder what the hell the crazy English guy is now up to 😂
Overwintering a nuc may not work out for your local conditions so you may consider either newspaper combining the bees into weaker colonies or setting double screen boards and stacking your colonies to share warmth.
Another informative video , thank you again Bruce.😀
Thank you Sir! I appreciate you watching 😁
Very informative video for the new or newer beekeepers. Thanks for your video’s keep your video’s coming when possible thanks
Thank you Kathy, I really appreciate your kind words. I should have a new video tomorrow 😄

Great information. Thanks for sharing. 🐝
Thank you for watching Keith, hope it gave you something to think about. Resource hives have saved my colonies a few times 👍
Thanks Bruce, that was very interesting and informative. 👍🐝
Thanks for watching Joe!
@@bruceandhisbees1770 You’re welcome Bruce. Where in Maine are you? I have family in Augusta.

Hi again Bruce, I think a collaboration would be great. I am open to a weekend trip to Dothan one of these days. I will shoot you an email.
Very informative. It's a kind of let me say a bank hive !
Hi Mohamed, Yes, that is correct 👍. Thank you for watching.
The double nuc hives are the size of a 10 frame, but because of the center divider, each side is a 4 frame nuc.

Yes, that is for sure. I appreciate you watching and commenting 🙂
Learned a couple things. Thanks. I see your dragon fruit trellises, what part of florida are you in?

For those of us who don't live in Florida, what do we do with these resource nucs when winter approaches?

You talk too much. Start doing.
