    Great video again Bruce! Packed full of info you never think to ask until you have a 911 in the bee yard and it's too late.

    The box if full it looks like they need a new brood box added, and the one frame with the supersedure cell about half way down they were trying to replace her.

      Hi Bill, you are probably right. Just by taking out that Queen excluder she got a bunch of room to lay eggs and it seemed to solve the problem 😎

    Hi Bruce, how long do you think the hive has swarmed? Doing the inspection trying to find the queen, did you notice it had a roar. Another great video. Happy new year

      Hi Pierre, sorry, I thought I answered you but I guess it didn’t go. Not sure when they swarmed but didn’t really hear the roar. Thank you for watching and commenting Sir!

    lol could have used this video about 2 weeks ago :-) honey bound is not split 4 ways lol. Strong hives, looks like things are going a little to well, needs more space under the excluder. Ty Bruce, Blessed Days...

    11:03 you guys put empty frames in can you do that??

    • @bruceandhisbees1770
      @bruceandhisbees1770  Рік тому

      Sure. As long as they have nectar they will build new comb - that means that at times they won’t add comb and other times they will fill out a whole frame in just a few days. Bees are amazing creatures!

      @@bruceandhisbees1770 do they make it straight as foundation? They'll mimic the other frames? They'll keep open spaces between? Or do they make it thicker so they can have more winter protection? Or wouldn't they keep the empty space so they'd have somewhere to ball up in wintertime? I've often wondered if hives should have a couple empty frames in winter time so they can balll up for their own protection. Maybe hives wouldn't have such a huge winter loss rate if more beekeepers gave their colonies more space to ball up going into winter.

      @@bruceandhisbees1770 I guess to pose the question a better and simpler way... So do foundationless beekeepers like yourself see any evidence coming out of winter that the colony has chewed through their own cells to make room for a tight-knit wound ball over winter? You could be onto something... what's your winter loss rates? Is it lower than other beekeepers in your area, any evidence of chewing through their own wax comb to make ball space?

      Oh I just rewatched a bit more of your video, looks like you might be down south maybe not far north enough to worry about freezing, anyways interesting idea I think I'll remove my two center 2nd-box frames this winter so they can move up and ball up. But I'll try putting in some empty frames in the meantime and see what happens. Very interesting 🤔

      Yes, where I am in Florida we don’t have much of a winter. The plants bloom and the bees fly all year round. The problem with blank frames is that the bees build wonky comb unless you sandwich them with comb. You can get away with it sometimes (as we did in this video) but you have to check often to keep them straight. Good luck 😎
