--- Lyrics
Oh, say can you see by the dawn's early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket's red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
-- About this song
"The Star-Spangled Banner" is the national anthem of the United States of America. The lyrics come from "Defence of Fort McHenry", a poem written in 1814 by the lawyer and amateur poet, Francis Scott Key, after witnessing the bombardment of Fort McHenry by the British Royal Navy ships in Chesapeake Bay during the Battle of Fort McHenry in the War of 1812.
I think I want to sleep on a bed made out of this guy's voice. :D
I feel you bro
I don’t know what that means but I agree
My favourite versions of the Star Spangled Banner are ones where the singer doesn't try to do anything super showy and fancy. In that regard, this is an awesome rendition; love it.
I am a Veteran of the United States Army. I have heard many renditions of The Star Spangled Banner. But today, for the first time in a long time, I have truly been blown away. Well done Sir.
You French have done so much for us Americans. You helped us win our independence, you gave us the Statue of Liberty, You gave us airplanes to jump start our air force, and now this. Beautiful. I am happy to acknowledge you French as brother and sister figures.
Oh my gosh…is that you, Noah? THE Noah?
And then when our 'king' asked for help George Washington denied helping us
If it weren't for France and Spain, this beautiful nation would not exist and many nations would have collapsed.
I'm not even American and I want to cry.
Zack Fountain please don’t
That must make you sexican lol.
@@Harlem55 Or Canadian? Or perhaps ANYWHERE else in the world?
@@rural8438 Canadians aren't that romantic, lol plus they speak English way too often. Rather, there's nothing fresher than a French bilingual that proceeds to whisper French obscenities in your ear while making love. Even french porn has a certain quality once you learn the language or have it translated.
@@Harlem55 well ok
1:12 and this is the point in a traditional SSAATTBB where us boys just sit back and let the women belt out as many octaves higher as they like

@@angerock49 soprano 1 and 2, alto, tenor 1 and 2, baritone, bass
Yes
Yeah I'm more impressed by the bass that rattles your bones than the highest soprano.
This particular project took me around 20 hours to make, from learning and practicing the parts, to recording audio and shooting the video, mixing / mastering audio, editing video, rendering a few times, eventually publishing on UA-cam, then releasing the song on iTunes. Yeah, all that for less than 2 minutes of music. But don't be fooled, making a cappella music on your own requires dedication. :)
Thank you for the time and dedication to the music. Best version of this song ever!
Amazing Job Julien Neel I'm really impressed
As a Vietnam war veteran who is proud of my service and mindful of our losses as I remember those who were friends, I am equally proud of this version! Sincerest thanks for the ingenuity and the excellent voices God gave to all in your talented group!
Roger Goodell? You listening? Hire this guy to do the Superbowl. Every year.
a little bit of history:
during the War of 1812 there was a negotiation for the release of prisoners on both sides the U.S. sent Francis Scott Key(the author of the star spangled banner) after the negotiation was concluded the British Admiral told him that it would simply be a formality as after that night the U.S. would not exist anymore (it would be British colonies again) when key asked what he meant the Admiral told him that they had made an ultimatum(said ultimatum was that if Fort Henry surrendered that would be the entire U.S.'s surrender) and directed him to look at the horizon where he saw hundreds of tiny dots, the admiral stated that that was the entire British war fleet and that he had directed them to fire on Fort Henry, but he had given them a way out, all they had to do was lower the flag that was flying over the rampart, hours of bombardment went by and the flag was still there so the Admiral said to key something along the lines of "your people are mad" and "they can't win" to which Key responded with a quote from George Washington "the thing that sets the American Christian apart from any other in the world is that he will die on his feet before he ever lives on his knees" the Admiral also stated that their reconnaissance suggested that the flagpole had been hit directly multiple times, and yet the flag was still flying, throughout all of this key was relaying the events to the prisoners below decks and all they could ask was if the flag was still there, the Admiral directed his forces to target the flag and take it down, eventually the bombardment ended and the flag was still there, at a crooked angle but still very much flying over the fort, so key went ashore and asked what had happened, the men there told him that early on the flag had been hit and had fallen over but some of the men knowing what that meant ran over and held it in the air and when they died others took their places, key later remarked that "what held that flag at that odd angle was the bodies of patriots"
Makes me proud to be an American. Thanks, Julien.
KapeDude Damn nazism and their rashness and hatred. Deo Vindice! Long live Dixie! God save the south! May God not let us repeat history by the abomination called slavery!
Suomen isänmaa ikuisesti !
Kind of ironic your proud to be American, yet have a confederate battle flag as your picture...
jack lind Have you ever heard of the south?
+KyleBuschPackFan I heard of the confederacy. They left the union to support slavery. They are treasonous and the reason for their creation is slavery. Don't tell me, you learned that the war during 1861 was called the "War of Northern Aggression" and that the confederacy is about "personal rights." Well, I will tell you that the confederacy was exactly formed for slavery. "Our new Government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition"-Confederate Vice President Alexander Stephens There you go. Yes, I heard of the South. Has the South heard of progress?
TheLordPresident No nation is sinless.
Why would anyone dislike this video is beyond me. I dream to be able to do this one day! You are an inspiration!
Thanks for your kind comment man, I appreciate it. If you need tips, feel free to email me. Stay safe
God bless America
Harry Boyd agreed
The 13th time I've listened to this.... I still get teary-eyed.
Best rendition of this song I've heard. I'm not American myself but considering the us is my favorite place in the world I can't help feeling patriotic
Nice, you should consider coming to the us unless you are already in the us
@@colincharmley1387I've been to visit
Delighted you enjoy my work and that you catch all these details. Thanks for all your kind words, I hope you'll be sharing my video, come July 4th! ;)
I had to stand up, put my hand on my heart, and sing along with this
Same! #Independence!
My pleasure! Thanks for sharing my video with friends! :)
God bless America.
Cyrus correct
God bless the Soviet Union.
This is one "Yank" fan who is moved to tears by your rendition of our national anthem. Well done!
Can't we get this Frenchman to sing at Super Bowl halftimes instead of the bone-headed Americans who can't even remember the lyrics to the Star-Spangled Banner? I've rarely heard it better performed than Julien does it in this fantastic video!
Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for sharing my video on July 4th! :)
I'm Canadian and I've just decided to learn your anthem because of the predators (hockey) for those who don't know the fans sang our anthem. My way of saying thank you :)
All good hockey fans should know both. Many at Blue Jacket games, myself included, always sing O Canada.
Not bog on hockey, but I know both. Just cuz. lol
I love your anthem! I am a Pens fan so when we play a Canadian team I get happy because I get to hear O Canada!
My pleasure, thank you for your comment (and for sharing this video in due time!). :)
Dang, you had to sing that song perfect eleven times! Awesome!
Thank you! I am French, but I did live in the US a few years (from ages 6 to 12). Thanks for sharing my video on July 4th, it would be great if it could go viral! ;)
Well done, Julien.
Merci Trudbol! Beautiful rendition of our national anthem. Especially the fact that you're French, it means a lot that you would still sign our national anthem. Come on over to Texas for a beer anytime.
There's an incredible "ring" on the word "free"
And there's nothing robotic about it.
Mainly all the ii/ee vowels
The pleasure is mine, thanks for your comment. :)
well done!!
Hey Julien! I heard that same song too! In that one Mt. Rushmore video, they said it’s the Gas House Gang, but it’s actually you!
Dude this sounds amazing!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. Plenty more a cappella on my channel. :)
Thanks, glad you enjoyed my video: :)
Any way you could perform the Marine Corps Hymn?? I ship for boot camp August 25th and I would take great honor and pride with me to hear the anthem of the worlds finest fighting force performed by such pure talent!
Sure, my vocals are available for hire. Please email me at julien.neel@gmail.com and we can discuss the details. :)
How did bootcamp go? Were you at Parris Island or San Diego?
Thank you for serving!
I wish UA-cam had a standing ovation button, and not just the like button; a standing ovation is exactly what I did at the end of this video.
Can anybody realized that he didn't blink

I grew up in America, so this Anthem has a special meaning to me. It's also July 4th next week and I thought many American fans would appreciate this.
I may make a cover of O' Canada (I happily take requests), I just ask for a little sponsoring to support the endeavor. Making videos like these takes a solid 15 to 20 hours, a little help for my music would be appreciated.
Is there anyway you could do God Save They Queen, when you're not working your ass off.
LOL I'm happy to take song requests on my Patreon page, which you're welcome to join: patreon.com/trudbol :)
I second this request ;-)
The 4 basses are in white and the other 3 voices are split between the remaining blue and red shirts, which were recorded on different days.
Very nicely done indeed! Comb your hair.
Lol
Thanks for the kind words. Yes, I know Dan, we did two collabs already (two Beatles songs), both are on my channel. Looks like you have some catching up to do. :)
Wonderfully done!!! :D !!!
Thank you! I've also sung "O Canada", perhaps you'll enjoy it as well. :)

My pleasure! Thanks for sharing my video on July 4th! ;)
NFL should have you sing this at the Super Bowl.

You bet! Thanks for sharing my video with family and friends on July 4th! :)
This is my ultimate favorite song ever. I'm so proud of this and I love that I served my country to be able to love this even more.
Thank you for sharing! And thanks for voting for me in the contest, really appreciate the support. I'll post an update on this soon (I already have on Facebook, but several people only use UA-cam, so I'll try and do both). Cheers :)
This song was my first gig with my barbershop chorus at a baseball game. Same exact arrangement. Good upload!
0:10 SOUNDS SO MAJESTIC
Wonderful job singing in harmony this challenging anthem. Perfectly nailed the high note of word "free"!
A most excellent presentation of the old Val Hicks' arrangement.
Thanks! Hope you're sharing the videos too! ;)
Thank you for sharing your experience, I am humbled and delighted that my music can have this positive effect on someone on the other side of the planet. Thank you for reminding me why I love to sing.
*puts right hand over heart with tears in eyes* God Bless America
Thank you very much! This video took a good 15 hours to make. Most of my projects require from 10 to 20 hours, depending on the number of parts to sing, the difficulty, how much I edit the video, etc.
Your cutoffs across 11 takes are nothing short of incredible. Nice job :)
Thank you for your invaluable input.
Thank you for the high praise Larry, I appreciate it. :)
Julien, you have made the best version of this I have ever heard.
Thanks! Yes my learning tracks are for sale. It's -- in part -- what enables me to continue making this kind of music.
Sir, this is astounding! Thank you very much for this most moving and respectful rendition of my Country's national anthem!
Possibly the finest rendition of our beloved anthem that I have ever heard! Thank you, Julien!
I just discovered your songs yesterday, but this is easily one of my three favorite versions of our anthem. Thank you sir.
I've been playing far too long in marching band that I instinctively got ready to play the school fight song right after this was done! Great Work!
The great and venerable Val Hicks arrangement!
I get chills every time I here you sing, especially your one man choirs.
Folks: I'm happy to take your requests, but please understand that I need sheet music for 4 male a cappella voices to work from. Harmonies aren't improvised, sheet music is an absolutely necessary first step. Arranging is a lot of work, so if you are serious about your request and are willing to sponsor a custom arrangement, I can help make it happen, so let me know. Believe me, there are tons of songs I'd love to do, but only a finite amount of time to work on these videos. :)
Thank you and I really think this will mean a lot to a great number of people
Even i'm not american, i still love with this song. . . . .thank's julien. NICE SONG & SOUNDS
And the arrangement is 4-part barbershop (by Val Hicks). I sang 3 tenor parts, and 4 of each other voice. I sang them on different days, hence the different looks. ;)
I totally agree with you on that, and yes, I'm really focusing on vowels, much more so than consonants, which are harder to do right (without losing vowel quality). I'm working on it, and I'll get there! Thanks for the feedback :)
Glad you like it. :)
I'll be singing "O Canada" and "La Marseillaise" in the upcoming weeks.
Nailed it! Beautiful harmony! And that note for the lyric "Free" wonderfully full! (It nearly always eludes me.)
Thank you, what a treat to read your comment. To be honest, I was a bit nervous about singing this piece which means a great deal to many Americans. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I hope you'll be sharing it around you come July 4th! :)
Thanks, glad you liked it. ;)
Haha, thanks Sonya! Hope you'll be sharing my video this coming July 4th! :)
Glad you enjoyed the show! Share this with the world! :)
Ah, c'est sympa de passer dire bonjour sur ma chaîne UA-cam. Tu as fait un peu de chemin pour me trouver ici ! :)
Ton sketch m'avait bien fait marrer. J'espère que tu gagneras le concours MisterV, vous vous complèteriez bien. Une nana à lunettes pince sans rire + un mec rigolo qui frime gentiment, ça peut faire une sacrée équipe.
It really depends on the song (duration, difficulty, number of tracks, etc.) but typically a solid 10 to 20 hours. The singing and recording are only half of that time, it's the editing that is the most time-consuming. :)
This song just brings an American tear 😢 to my eye. Fantastic job you glorious Patriot.
I think he's french 🙂
He just likes to do national anthem covers, as he is indeed French
Thank you, Julien. That was beautiful, brother.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! :)
Your renditions are excellent, this one in particular. I'll share it on July 4 to my FB family.
Merci, Julien! This was wonderful, as expected.
I love the way you have made it sound as if there are multiple people singing. Great work!
+Martin Putt Thank you! :)
+A Cappella Trudbol (Julien Neel) You rock! :D
