--- LYRICS
Oh, oh, oh
For the longest time
Oh, oh, oh
For the longest time
If you said goodbye to me tonight
There would still be music left to write
What else could I do
I'm so inspired by you
That hasn't happened for the longest time
Once I thought my innocence was gone
Now I know that happiness goes on
That's where you found me
When you put your arms around me
I haven't been there for the longest time
Oh, oh, oh
For the longest time
Oh, oh, oh
For the longest time
I'm that voice you're hearing in the hall
And the greatest miracle of all
Is how I need you
And how you needed me too
That hasn't happened for the longest time
Maybe this won't last very long
But you feel so right
And I could be wrong
Maybe I've been hoping too hard
But I've gone this far
And it's more that I hoped for
Who knows how much further we'll go on
Maybe I'll be sorry when you're gone
I'll take my chances
I forgot how nice romance is
I haven't been there for the longest time
I had second thoughts at the start
I said to myself
Hold on to your heart
Now I know the woman that you are
You're wonderful so far
And it's more that I hoped for
I don't care what consequence it brings
I have been a fool for lesser things
I want you so bad
I think you ought to know that
I intend to hold you for
The longest time
I hope you enjoyed this video!

Hi, I would like to know how I can get the "rehearsal kit", or
"voice kit" of this song for me to sing with my quartet. Is there any way you can make this "voice rehearsal kit" available to me? Thank you in advance and I'll be waiting for your return.
@@nettojamp1925 A little late, sorry! Please see the links in the video description. What you are requesting are "audio learning tracks", you can find these on my website.
I've never seen a set of a triplets who all had such great voices.
and in such different ranges!
Lol yes he has a great voice but it’s all one person. Also sorry Ik you commented this 9 years ago 😂😂

My son's barbershop quarter chose this song to perform. That was enough to make my heart sing. Their choral director died unacceptably. They sang to him at his bedside before he died. I hope that they sounded so amazing. Their choral director was pretty damned awesome. He deserved a perfect performance.
I hope you avenged him.
Look at the Lead's eyebrows at 1:08.
Thanks for the tip.
That's the eyebrow version of "How you doin'?"

7 yrs have already passed, but I still love this arrangement for this wonderful song.
My schools men's choir is doing this song and i'm using this vid to learn the tenor part
I sell audio learning tracks for this song (and for many more): julienneel.com :)
Same! Except I'm lead haha
Bass lol
My son sang the tenor part in his barbershop senior year! I suggested this song to them, and was so pleased when they decided to perform it!
learn in the bathroom
Bruh bass and tenor? That guy's range is bigger than the lead's forehead
lmao
yoooo I can sing that range too! I'm aiming to be the next Avi Kaplan
We've got people in my church can hit bass to soprano.
We have an odd flexer here
He is a Tenor, the rest is forced
Thank you! Honored to have you watching my work! :)
The lead sounds almost _exactly_ like Billy, that's amazing
I love everything you guys do. Your singing reminds me that there is still a corner of my soul that is happy.
Lord Funface The Atomic Toaster Correct me if i'm wrong but is that Noseybonk as your channel picture? He used to scare the shit out of me when i was real young!
John Mitchell Yes, that's Nosybonk! Well spotted!

I have been going through hell and back in my life but one day I found this video and it made me fell like that everything is going to be ok in my life
Amazing how you guys can blend so well when you're not singing together.
I recently was cast as the tenor in the barbershop quartet in the musical "Music Man" and I've been listening to so many quartets to truly get the sound right: it's videos like these that make me want to keep singing in a quartet after the final performance :)
Dude I found you when I was 11 and I've sung your a cappella versions of songs ever since. 8 years later and I'm still a fan! Love you!
Sitting here trying to think of something to say that hasn't been said. I give up. Julien, you're incredible. Billy, you write the greatest songs. Beautiful lead vocal. I can't listen to this without smiling.
I'm so very grateful, Julien, that you've kept this video available these past 10 years. It's a song I've treasured for many years because of it being sung a cappella. You and Sonny did an awesome job of performing it. 🙂 (Chase)

I have recently developed an interest in barbershop singing thanks to you and Sonny. I mean, what else could I do? I'm so inspired by you. I haven't felt this good IN THE LONGEST TIME!!
Julien, I'm so glad I subscribed to your channel some time ago. I never know what surprises will pop into my UA-cam feed!
This one's special! I loved Billy Joel's recording on the radio, and that's extra special -- I also grew up on Long Island, just miles from Billy, and we're fairly close in age, so it's like hearing an old friend again! Well, sort of... I've never had the pleasure of meeting him, or you, but not long ago I DID get a note back from you!
Thanks for these wonderful videos. Keep singing -- ALL of you! 😊
Sonny, your voice is amazing. I had never heard this song before, but it has now been stuck in my head for weeks and still gives me chills! Definitely the best of all I've heard so far.
The teacher in my music class showed us this and it's been stuck in my head ever since goddamnit. Hats off to you guys for this!

This is definitely the best version of this song, besides the original hehe. Amazing arrangement amazing voices amazing timing amazing range of voices AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING
Nice cover.
This is such a sweet song.
I feel these NYC Jewish kids who grew up in 20th century Brooklyn/Queens (e.g. plus others the same like Simon and Garfunkel, etc.) must've had access to not only some very gracious gifts from their generous God, but also some really advanced education in music, hey? Billy Joel is a gifted musician too, as well as having a vocal talent the likes of which only God's angels will usually produce.
I'm astonished at how talented their songs and music are. It's complicated 'coz some seriously dedicated vocal talent and polished musicianship is used in the original works of Billy Joel's songs and music. Not all, but most of the stuff he published is truly masterful and classic in its finish. HArdy any musicians even fully appreciate his talent, and even then it's only when we analyse it and listen to it repeatedly 'coz it's unstoppable and without a record of it, it can only be enjoyed for that brief window of time it's being performed in.
I can't praise this piece enough and can only think Billy Joel's gifts and talents come from a place far above him and the rest of us mere mortals. Someone up there loves Billy Joel's parents so much, 'coz seriously... This is divine! Billy Joel's original recording (especially with the video) is a helpful reminder of the fact there is a God above! And He likes to bless some of us with truly awesome talent and wonderful gifts of song so the rest of us experiencing it can all be left in awe and wonder. What a wonderful and awesome experience it would've been to see this performed early on y the original performer/s... It's truly a classic radio hit and can be listened to repeatedly without growing tired of it.
The original recording of this is just the sweetest song of all the 20th-century songwriting we have on record!
I feel blessed to have the ears to hear it and experience its wonderful sound and story.
This is incredible considering how difficult it is putting three parts of yourself singing together on time and in key like gosh that's insane!!
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it! Our song is available for download on BandCamp, it's music for you and support for the artists, everyone wins. The link is in the video description below the video. Thanks for your support. :)

I love this song.

Ohh, I enjoyed this so much!! Thanks guys. Nothing beats the rich tone of a male voice.
Neel, you have inspired me to pursue my love of music. The things you can do with just 4 voices is extraordinary! It has finally let me come to the realization that I want to become a music teacher and be a conductor of a school choir. It's simply amazing what you can do! Cheers!
I've been playing this song for the longest time
your lead singer guy has the most incredible voice and your backgrounds are on point. well done!
Mr. Neil, many years ago I was a tenor in a barbershop chorus here in Michigan. Also sang in a quartet. Needless to say, I love four part harmony. I just recently discovered some of your videos on youtube. I actually stayed up till midnight listening to them (at 76 I never stay up till midnight) Thank you for creating such a wonderful experience. If you run out of song ideas LOL, I would love you hear your version of Ronnie Milsap's "It was almost like a song". Thanks again, keep up the good work.
Thanks for your kind message, I appreciate it! Please subscribe (and click the little bell) if you'd like to stay informed of upcoming releases. Plenty more coming!
ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS!!!!! Such great harmony! 👍
My biggest question is what they sound like in regular conversation.
We both have videos on our channels where we speak.
Men?
Sunny and you are an unbeatable duet! Your'e utterly charming and your voices fit perfectly. And the girls - guess you have to look down to your feet.
My school used your acepella a couple of years ago for music and that's how I started watching these amazing vids :-)

So did you use any other ones?
Yes we also used the mario
If by 'a couple of years' you mean just last year? This was uploaded in 2013.

Gracias por la versión. Esta genial. Vienen hacia mi gratos recuerdos de mi lejana juventud.
One of my all-time favorite videos! Props to the amazing Billy Joel (what a songwriter!). This version is outstanding. Extra kudos to Sonny for facial expressions. Julien, as always, your voice, harmony, staging, and editing are flawless.
Love all your collaborations Julien. Wonderful harmonies and arrangements. The voice truly is a marvellous instrument. The video is great as well. For me half the fun is watching the singers antics and facial expressions as they perform their parts.
Great job all. Love your work.
PS. More Sonny collabs would be very welcome.
I prefer this over the original. Very well done, especially the lead.
Funny you should mention that. All the voices in the original were one man multi-tracked -- Joel himself. I don't have a strong preference for this over the original, but Sonny and Julien stand on their own as artists. Excellent work here.
And kudos to his eyebrows
Honestly yeah.

The backup singer has a hell of a range if he can really do all three of those vocal ranges like that. Wow.
Thanks Trevor. Kudos to Sonny for nailing the lead on this, it's a tough piece when you have to compare to Billy Joel.
Thanks! :)

Hi Julian, My name Is Jay. I'm 81yrs young, & have loved Barbershop all my life. By the way, you are amazing boy! In 1947 my Dad formed the first chapter of S.P.E.S Q .S.A. In San Jose Calif. He was lead singer In quartet called, " The What cha Ma Callits." They sang at many concerts & around The Bay area. They once sang at Bellarmine Catholic High. Bing Crosby's boys were going to school there, when Dad's quartet came on stage he came out & joined them! We have one pic. It was 1948.. I think they sang , Coney Island Baby...
Thanks for your message Jay! Delighted you're enjoying my a cappella videos. :)

this is freaking amazing and absolutely beautiful and just wow
Incredible work gentlemen!
Why is everyone disliking this beautiful song, it is so irritating of so many people disliking this song for the longest time sung by The choir.
Faultless presentation, Sonny's lead is SO good, but without the other three parts, it would be diminished. Fabulous, thanks guys.
It's the injustice of the world that the radio is filled with mass produced garbage and not music like this

This is a quartet, there are four sung parts. We're just not a *real* quartet, but it's definitely a quartet. What else would you call it?
I call it perfect.
Julien, I love your productions they are great. As a lead in the Knights of Harmony Chorus I don't get the chance to practice with in quartet as much as I would like. Is there a way of you editing your pieces so there are one part missing, so anyone could join in as a lead, Barry, Bass or Tenor?
What would be excellent of course if you could have all four parts with some sort of interactive switch, this would allow one part to be silenced. Needs multitrack audio probably too advanced for mp3 yet.
Your thoughts .
Hi Graham. Yes, what you are requesting are called "audio learning tracks". I sell these on my website: julienneel.com
Incredible. It must feel amazing to know your singing makes complete strangers all over the world feel amazing.

Love it!
Hi there Julien, I just wanted to say that I admire your work SO much and it's made me desperately want to join a barbershop quartet xD. Your singing is so amazing and I only wish I had the same range haha. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that I respect you so much for your art! :D.

+Dawson Ma aye homestuck
i'll be in a quartet with you i can do baritone and bass
the lead has a higher range than me. and i'm a girl
Alto problems
+Wolfhammer claw Not true my friend. The lead is singing in the higher tenor range, but it is technically very easy to hit notes around C4 and G4 for girls
actually it would be contra-alto problems LOL but still shouldnt be that hard
and to think i can only do baritone and bass
Well I'm a 15 year old bass 2 who hits 2 and a half octaves below middle c haha
Simply lovely.
Thank you! :)

great enunciation, really good audio, both of the sounds of your voices are very strong on their own and come together even stronger, just overall great!!!!
ALL OF YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME =D!!!!
Manuel Medina Aka the two of them
Wow! It's hard to believe triplets formed a quartet! What luck they all had good singing voices. Kinda weird that the parents named their kids Tenor and Bass. Barry is OK... although spellet wrong.
Is the tenor, bari and bass the same guy?
Yes they are.
No, they're just clones.
No, they're actually lookalikes.
Wow
obviously
Julien Neel, i fall in love with your songs.
AWESOME! Absolutely and positively AWESOME!!
What originally got you into singing Julien?
Hmm good question, I don't even know. I was casted as Harold Hill in a musical, back in college and I loved the barbershop quartet. They were struggling learning their parts on Sincere, so after a while, I ended up memorizing them myself and singing them. Then a few years later, late 2008, I decided to make my first UA-cam video where I'd self harmonize. Things took off from there slowly, one video at a time, and now here I am. ;)
*****
In college? I usually think most people start when their younger. That fact that you're so good and started in college makes me inspired. Thanks. I'll try to believe this phrase again "It's never too late".
Audible honey ❤
Awww, thanks! :)
Is it just me who is disturbed by the lead singers ear difference?
***** xD
No not really since my brothers ear is actually two times smaller than the other ear. If you lived with it you might not be as disturbed idk js
I just joined a choir made of four
I've not heard songs sung like this before
I lead with my lyric scripts
Accompanied by three brother triplets
That hasn't happened in the longest time!
Hi Julien. Just last night (Tues, 2-9-16) our singing group, Singing Men of Arkansas, started practice early for those of us who are interested in Barber Shop. Today, one of our leaders sent out a youtube link to one of the songs we're trying to learn and I saw your work. WOW! I once wondered if I could do this, but I'm technically challenged. Your work is great. Thanks for doing this. Joe Gordon
