Dai Pai Dong is usually for local people, and that's why waiters/waitress don't speak much English. I love the way you explore local food in different countries. Keep traveling and eating! Stay safe during this pandemic moment.

Mark is the best. Some others are good but I love how he shows not only the food but the countries. Some of the places I have only read about. The family adds to it.

One tip for ordering in this restaurant without an English menu. There is an app called open rice. Type in the name of the restaurant and there are all the photos of the food. Point it to the waiter. Bam! You got it

You can also use Google Translate and hold it over the characters. It will translate it for you. Sometimes it may be hard to tell what it actually is (Crazy names = Crazy Translations), but you could always Google it!

My dad is born in Hong Kong before he immigrated here to Canada 🇨🇦 where he ran and owned a Chinese takeout restaurant. My family is planning to travel and tour to Hong Kong soon and totally would love to visit these BBQ stalls. If you see all of these video footages of these chefs chopping the roast goose, pork belly, char siu in such a fast pace and also in a safe manner, it's impressive!

Hey Mark! To remove the shell on the mantis shrimp, you can flip it over on its back, use a chopstick (thinner would be better) to poke it into the shrimp's body at the base of its tail and push the chopstick through toward its head. So now you have a "mantis shrimp skewer", flip it over on its stomach and hold the chopstick against the flat surface on your plate, and grab the tail and lift up, and the shell should come off in one piece.

I read your bio and loved it! I'm a Christian too and have my own local tv show here in Hawaii. I just subscribed to your channel and also to your website. Outside of your work, do you get to witness to people from other countries? I could imagine the opportunities God must provide. On one episode, you were in a tent I believe somewhere in the Jordan? Well, a man that was peeling away meat from a dish you were eating was wearing a ring on his thumb that had an inscription that said "I love JESUS." I thought that was so cool! Did you give him that ring and was that man a Christian? Anyway, thanks for doing what you're doing and I pray that God will use you in an amazing way! God bless you Mark and I look forward to hearing from you!

I appreciate the fact that Mark has finally spoken the truth...its near to impossible replicate any of these meals in a chinese restaurant if you are non-Chinese (may be other than expensive ones). People go to Hong Kong for shopping, I go to Hong Kong for the food. HK has over 3500 restaurants. This means you can go to a different location for breakfast, lunch, dinner everyday of the year for about I0 years. It has good food and good deals if you know where to look. Ask the locals, even the subways have tons of shops in them and their 7-11 stores have way better food selections. You can use your subway card to buy from 7-11 too.

Just a tip, there is a higher chance, if you eat inside the bbq pork place they usually give you the better part of the meat compare to taking out. If you buy take out bbq pork, you can ask them for the leaner portion or more fatty part, they will try their best to give you that.

I think the delicious way to savour that crispy shrimp is to eat it's shell. My colleagues and I have planned to visit Hong Kong in November ... just to enjoy our eating...Thanks a lot for this wonderful VDO.

Char Siu literally 叉烧 means roasted with a fork, and choy sum 菜心 means the heart of the vegetable, and bok choy 白菜 means white vegetable in reference to the white stems. The japanese chashu came from this Cantonese dish Char Siu. Japanese Shumai also came from the Cantonese dim sum 点心 dish Siu Mai 烧卖.
I usually just eat the pork skin and discard the fatty chunk underneath it. The same goes for roasted duck which I would eat the skin and the meat, but discard the fatty part.
