Ask any funeral director and they'll tell you this is in the Top Five list of songs requested to send a loved one off. Yes, it is a party song for those who understand that this step in life is not the end, but the beginning of something great.
John Lennon said this was one of favorite songs when it came out in1969. Funny thing is, Norman Greenbaum is a Jew by Blood, and he's singing about Jesus being his Savoir. Cool. Such a great sound to this song. It just grabs you with that deep opening guitar Riff, and it runs throughout the whole song. Good stuff. I remember this well from 7th grade.
The only song which has reached No.1 three times in the UK, each time by a different act who never had another hit. (That's a technicality in one case) Happy New Year guys, keep up the great reactions.
I love this song... Definitely a great party song... I remember it from years ago... Unfortunately Norm Greenbaum Never was able to replicate the success that he had with this song... He tried for years but never did it , But we still have this wonderful song to rock out with.. Another great reaction guys... See you on the next one... Keep being awesome !!!...
If I read things right, apparently Norman thought one day he'd like to write a gospel song. He wasn't religious or anything, and didn't actually know properly how gospel music was supposed to sound, so he just made it up. This was the result. I don't think it was tongue in cheek. I believe he tried, but I agree, the result is very enjoyable in a bizarre "just out there" sort of way. What makes this song a stayer is that it's actually really, really good. :)
Great story. Norman was living in his car. Down on his luck. He sold all the rights to his music but this song. Along comes DVDs and Top Gun. They used this song and the movie and DVD did Hundreds of millions. In a year he was a millionaire.
Omg this takes me back and it's still SO GOOD!!! I think I was about 10 years old when it came out and it blew my tiny little mind! : ) Happy New Years from Adelaide Hills South Australia you crazy, lovely humans!🥳🤩😍

This came out during the Jesus Revolution. Greenbaum was Jewish, not a Christian, but he dug the vibes of the Jesus People and decided to write this song. Which I think was his only big hit. Good song to react to right after Christmas.
I've always loved this song but the lyrics corner me into a place I don't want to be. So I switch the words. "I ain't a sinner, I never sin, I've got a friend in Jesus" to (or Moses, Vishnu, Brahma, Mohammed, or whoever). Love the sound and uplifting message though.
There are (at least) 2 songs that would be Perfect for you two to react to: 4 Non-Blondes 'Whats Up', and Shakespears Sister 'Stay'. It won't just be me you'll be making happy! 😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊

This has been in so many movies! Fantastic groove and I've always taken it as kind of being tongue in cheek. I think it's actually a hilarious song.
