This sunflower was the first painting of yours that immediately caught my eye. Sunflowers, like poppies, are my favourite flowers. I was thrilled by your style. There is nothing superfluous about this painting, the eye is simply drawn to this beautiful flower. It is one
Thank you Robin! I love this painting too and I've done it several times, and the prints have been popular too. Also, it looks good when enhanced with a few touches of pastel...
Lovely! I have a sister-in-law who loves sunflowers and asked me to paint one for her. I did two of these with slight variations and she loved them so much she kept them both!
I can't describe how lovely this is. I Will attempt it and hope for something beautiful. Thank you so much. You have helped to bring peace to my morning
Thanks Eileen! And please, if you are enjoying my channel if you can and don’t mind, please share the videos you watch with other people you know online, and any art groups you belong to, to help grow the channel. I'm so glad I didn't miss this one! It is my youngest favorite flower and she would be so excited if I could create this magical painting for her. This tutorial was the best I have seen! But so are the others on your channel! Many thanks! Wish me luck.
Wonderful! So glad you like the painting and came across it in the channel! I'm sure you will make a great job of it and your daughter will be thrilled!
Very beautiful layout of colours love every detail you had explained absolutely well🌻thank you kindly, one question I have ; you don’t apply any clear wash to the sheet paper , I guess you are using very loose colours 💦💦I’m I correct? Thanks 🙏 again
Hi Cindy So glad you enjoyed the video. I use Sepia because it’s a very convenient ready mixed dark brown, and you’re quite right you could use a different colour brown Such as burnt Umber or Vandyke brown. Ready-made Sepia is actually just mixed from burnt umber and black, so if you have those two colours in your palette you can mix your own. If you don’t have burnt umber you could use any dark brown that you happen to have, for example Vandyke brown. And if you don’t have black then you could use a dark blue such as Winsor blue or ultramarine. However the blue mix is likely to produce a dark brown which is less intense than if you use black. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching my videos, greatly appreciated!
So beautiful! Prayers for the people of the Ukraine. I want to try to paint this but I’m such a beginner. Question: Can I be success twist Cotman or should I get the Windsor Newton when I can ! Thank you Diane. Your awesome! Love your videos!
Hi Catherine, thanks very much for your lovely comments! To answer your question about Cotman watercolours, absolutely, you can definitely do perfectly good art - even exceptionally good art - with Cotman. One of my heroes Ron Ranson never used anything else and was an internationally famous tutor and artist. Cotman paint and Bockingford paper were all he ever used. So while you’re learning, no need at all to spend more money. He used to say it’s better to have plenty of inexpensive paint than to be hung up on how expensive your paints are. Happy painting and welcome to the channel!
This is a difficult painting Tina! I have also failed sometimes to do the same thing again, so don't feel downhearted! I think you are quite new at watercolor, so I'd suggest you try some of my much easier tutorials first. Happy painting!

Yes, if you mean the background? Mostly loose washes if I remember rightly.
Really enjoyed this video!! What colour could be used instead of Sepia?
