I honestly have never added a comment to any UA-cam video in my life; but by grace I stumbled upon this lesson as I am just now dabbling in watercolor and I feel as if I've entered a world of joy, peace, contentment and beauty! God bless, you, Diane for sharing the beauty of your artistic giftedness in such an sublime fashion.
Dragonflies are my all time favorite crafting spirit and am just starting to dabble in watercolors, mostly the water pencils. Now I see the need to add actual paints. Somehow I got lucky and came across this wonderful inspirational video. Many thanks for your art.
I am 80 and only been painting a few years. I just LOVE HOW YOU PAINT, and that you share it with us all. Thank you, you have taken the need for perfection out of my remit, and made it so much more free and open, and relaxing.
In 1963 we moved to a small lake a couple miles outside of a lovely little rural town in Michigan. I was 10 years old and it was heaven! We had a row boat that allowed me to spend hours investigating all of the lake and shore. The area at one end was a quiet weedy area with frogs and dragon flys abundant. My friend and I would take small nets on long poles to catch and study. It was endless fun with something new to do each day. Winters we spent ice skating, fishing, snowmobiling. I wish I could have given those experiences to my children. It was a idyllic experience. Your painting sparked a lot of fun memories, thanks!
Hi Deb I had a childhood experience very similar to that! When I was eight in 1961 we moved into the countryside outside of London and we used to play in a local pond - not quite as exciting as a lake, but it was also full of wildlife. We used to have fun collecting frogspawn and falling in the water! Every child needs a childhood like that! So glad to bring back some memories for you! Happy painting!
I didn't know how to draw a dragonfly and now I do. The painting comes next. I love videos like this from start to finish. I'm just learning watercolors
I love this wonderful online class, and remember how I used to illustrate all my biology homework way back when. I had the most amazing teacher. She was Irish and I sometimes used to see her outside church with her easel painting flowers and trees in people's gardens. I loved her. She had long red hair, and I think became a well know artist in Ireland. I was about 12, and she was the best teacher I ever had. Watching you brought back lovely memories. And after covering my rent at the end of the month, I'm going to replicate this and get the materials you recommend. It's lovely, and I can't wait! :)
Hi Trisha, what a lovely memory. It’s amazing how our childhood teachers can stay with us all our lives, isn’t it. Your teacher sounds like a wonderful person. I also tried to incorporate art into my lessons at school, but it didn’t always go down well! If you are going to buy paints, can I recommend a set which I didn’t know about when I painted that dragonfly? The Kuretake paints from Japan are wonderful to paint with. I have the set of 48 colors but you can get 24 as well or 36 which is plenty. Here’s a link in case you can’t find them: amzn.to/3KfIxRO Hope this helps !! Happy painting!

Diane I cannot thank you enough for opening up the world of watercolor for me. I've wanted to play in this medium for such a long time, and the way you teach, the pace, your instruction, everything about you makes this possible and FUN. Art should be fun, and I have recommended you to my friend who is also learning to paint for the first time. Thank you and your daughter for putting these enchanting videos together. Real time. Gentle. Enjoyable. I wish I could post a picture of the dragonflies you've helped me created. You are a gift to the art world.
Hi Meghan, thanks so much for your lovely comment. It's very helpful to me to hear what I'm doing right on the channel, and encourages me to continue! I'm so glad you are finding the videos helpful. I so enjoy just watching you draw and paint so effortlessly, it is so calming to watch and so inspirational. I want to try out each painting you post. Thank you for sharing your passion with us.
This is a very calming and stress free technique. If followed, it forces looseness. We often get so uptight for fear of failure, but failure is the best lesson sometimes. All said and done, it's only a piece of paper and small amt of paint, but the lessons you learn give a valuable sense of return. Thx for sharing your talent.
This was so much fun. I am just retired, cake decorating for 35 years, so I've drawn a lot and mixed a lot of colors. This is surprisingly similar and yet so different. Your instructions are very good. I'm parked in front of my computer and pause and start your video a lot.
That's great! I'm so glad you're enjoying it! I'm sure you've picked up on a lot of similarities between cake decorating and painting since you've been doing it for so long. It's always great to have a creative eye so that you can pause and start the videos and pick up on the subtleties of the process. Thanks for giving it a try!
I volunteer at an elementary school . I just started watercolor painting and I do a picture each week for a student. I just did a dragon fly and had a difficult time with the head. This was so helpful and I look forward to more. I think I'll paint the little girl another dragon fly with what I learned in this lesson. I find watercolor painting to be very relaxing. Thank you!
Hi Karen and thanks for your comment! I’m so glad the tutorials are helping you with your student! Dragonflies are lovely but can be challenging! I’m sure your painting will be lovely!
How lovely ! Dragonfly is my youngest daughter's spirit guide (we are native American Indian) and she's a professional artist. I'm always looking for a new way to create paintings etc of the Dragonfly for her birthday & holiday gifts. Thank you for a lovely rendition. Be well🦋
Please continue to share your gift with us! I am new to watercolor and have told many friends about you. What a peace filled way to begin each day. Your tips and techniques are helpful to all experience levels.

This was absolutely lovely to sit back and watch you create this beautiful piece. Clearly, it opened my eyes in seeing how tense I am and how free you are with your paint brush. I will be watching more of your techniques. Thank you for sharing.
My mom and I, along with my little ones, attempted this. We love the way they turned out. The peaceful music, along with the simple instructions as you go along were perfect. We appreciated the colors being named as well, though Im sure our pallet was limited. We watched once straight through and then again little by little as we attempted it on our own pages. It was the perfect length too. Enough to challenge their attention span, and short enough they were able to finish their artwork. My mom and I took the advice of letting it dry for longer along with the addition pencil medium. Thank you for a fun afternoon! We cannot wait to try more.
Alessia this is one of the loveliest comments I've ever had! So glad that your family is enjoying the videos together and finding a little peace and joy in the creation of a beautiful painting. Thank you for providing not only instruction while I join you, but also for providing a wonderful and peaceful escape from the busyness of life.
