    I am actually surprised noone other than Claas stole from this idea. The Xerion is an absolute beast in hilly terrain, tight spots and on silage pits, it´s only limit is the traction you can produce by putting on weights. We have a custom disc implement for the front so we can one pass cultivate and seed in fields you wouldn´t dare drive with something like an 8R or some articulated tractor, their cog is way too high.

      Ford/Versatile made the Bidirectional I think in the late 80's, correct me if I'm wrong on that. It wasn't really considered high horsepower though.

    Fascinating! Great documentary on a tractor I have never heard of until today. The BIMA tractors do seem to have been way ahead of their time. In fact I have a feeling that some farmers may have looked at these tractors and turned away due to being difficult to repair. Shame that there was not more models built or even worse that if this tractor would be made today with current technology I think it would be a great machine!

    I rarelly watch farming related content on youtube, even though i work in the farming industry (manufacturer side, not farmer side), but I need to say that this is a really great documentary. The images choosed to represent the speech are pretty good, the speech itself is of good quality and i learned about a tractor i've never heard before

    What an interesting story, it amazes me that something as technologically advanced for it's time never caught on especially looking at some of the modern equipment out there now! As you mentioned Claas maybe has drawn inspiration from this and I wonder if the Syn Trac project did too, either way this is a great piece of history and I thank you so much for putting it all together!

    We have owned 2 Versatile BiDi’s and still use the 9030 with 14000+ hours every day still. The concept of cab forward design is perfect for many applications. I often dreamt of building a cab side forage chopper for it, throwing forage over the cab to a trailed wagon to open fields & greenchop. I figured one man could chop & empty wagon into bagger as a 1 man chopping crew. About 15 years ago I bought an old Hesston 7655 side dump forage harvester for that purpose. Some of the old engineering from Bima tractor & versatile BiDi’s & Hesston side dumps were way ahead of their time for smaller farms with limited labor.

    After watching this video and looking at this unique tractor I think it is a great piece of farm machinery I think it could have been made even greater but I see lots of pieces from that idea that has been used on other farm implement tractors and I think they got their ideas from that bima tractor because it's similarities are just a little bit too close to what that tractor has and I was supposed that they made parts for that tractor somewhat unavailable because other tractor companies were stealing ideas off from it greatest idea I've seen yet on a tractor that long ago

    I wonder what was the benefit of being able to control the wheels individually. The electronic and hydraulic system is expensive and has a lot of points of failure in itself, so the benefit needs to be substantial to offset these costs. The articulation would've made everything relatively easy for a mechanical drivetrain, but then hydraulic drive was added.

    • @MatheoMisiak
      @MatheoMisiak  2 роки тому

      Take a look on Fendt Vario Drive solution from 1050/900 Vario - it is similar. It's all about power managment in difficult work conditions e.g. mud 🙂

    • @cdjhyoung
      @cdjhyoung Рік тому

      The maker grew up in a region of France known for it hill side tillage demands. I suspect the multi-wheel independence was designed to over come hillside tillage issues. As for this tractor being adopted in North America, it was designed in a truly European mind set in that 50% of the tillage activity would be pushed ahead of the tractor. North Americans have never adapted this practice beyond a few harvesting tools. The BiMon's utility is lost if this part of the tractor's capability is not utilized.

    pretty clever man making a universal tractor the recent tractor makers never seemed to make the tractors as universal as they could be seems they all follow a similar path instead of making the tractors more productive like the BIMA concept
    we suggested to a US makers agents on how to utilise the tractors more but it probably never got a second thought
    now it would be handy to have a power unit to run a windrower add a forage chopper unit and the list goes on guess you cant sell multiple units if you have one does all

  • @Sjanzo
    @Sjanzo 3 місяці тому

    It wasnt 40 years ahead of time... It never had its time, because no large manufacturer today, 40 years later, is using its ideas....
    It was so odd, that it never had the chance to become mainstream. MB-Trac, In-Trac, Fendt GTA tool carriers were around in the same time with the same front and back toolcarrying capacities.
    Also, using a rotavator as a tillage tool in large scale farming was an idea that was already outdated in the late 1980s.
