The term "Keeping at the Crease" is a Cricket term. That is used with a long determined unwavering success to a difficult project. How it fits in with Cricket :- It would take a 3000 word, Essay, with diagrams to explain to a non-Cricket nation !
Our US friends need to appreciate that, in this show, Al Murray is playing a character he created, the pub landlord, whose personality would be immediately recognisable to most British people ( certainly of a certain age). The main traits of this character are being self opinionated, “ mildly” racist and misogynistic. In reality Al is a highly educated historian who attended Oxford university ( think Yale, Harvard, Princeton). He comes from a military family and co hosts a history pod cast ( called “ We have ways of making you talk”) with James Holland, a well known writer of factual history books. I have seen Al many times and he is hilarious. Don’t take offence as the, obvious, one sidedness of his opinions is part of the act and what makes it funny.
I'm sure you will know, and it's probably mentioned here in your comments, a lot of British humour is based on deprecation and sarcasm both to ourselves and to others and is often a term of endearment to ourselves and to our friends. My understanding is Americans can often misunderstand this nuance and can sometimes be offended.
Al Murray is hilarious! He plays a stereotypical English pub landlord character, who basically takes the piss out of the UK because the stereotype of a lot of English pub landlords are very much like Al Murray's character😂

There's so many good clips of him on UA-cam - I would recommend "Nations of the World" and "Al Murray vs Americans." On another note though - we actually lost the 100 years war. Crecy, Poitiers and Agincourt were great victories but it was Formigny and Castillon, French victories that ended the war. A result of the loss of the French territories led to the Wars of the Roses in England.
Actually we won the 100 yrs war in terms of territory. I think you're thinking of certain battles, not the whole thing. It was a war about dynsstic claims anyway. The wars were so bloody, both the male sides of the claims were literally wiped out.
