Also the international date line of course was put there by the British. Al Murray is a historian and scientific facts and dates of Wars and battles are always accurate and true.

It never ceases to amaze me how people don't seem to have picked up on the fact that the man behind the stage persona, 'Al Murray', is mocking the absurdity of his stage persona's opinions, not the targets at which that persona aims. The real Al Murray has no more in common with his act than he does a gatepost.
Book and films called Paddington bear from Peru that eats Marmalade sandwiches. Well science shows the UK line around the world as center before the world tilted 3 degrees in the 1990s because of nuclear bomb testing in the same hemisphere.
The bear referred to is Paddington Bear with his marmalade sandwich, suitcase and hat. The Zero meridian runs through Greenwich, England & all other time zones are based on how far East of it they are.
1:09 GMT means the 0 point runs through London borough of Greenwich. This means the UK is 0 and every longitude has a + to the east of that line and every longitude east has a - hours. So the UK is placed on world maps as the center 0. If your in France its +1 hour difference in local time from the 0 location. Finland is +2 head. Dallas is - 6 behind. Google: World Time Zones Map. You'll see the point.

Christmas islands is a reference to the wizard song I wish it could be Xmas every day which is played on radios in the run up to Xmas every year. I enjoyed your post.
In terms of the Peru and bear thing, we had a children's programme called Paddington bear, he came from darkest Peru. Paddington was found at Paddington station in London and named after the station. He lived with a family in Windsor gardens in London. Recently there have been two films and an audience with Her Late Majesty at the platinum jubilee celebrations. The line of longitude was set by an international congress including a young United States. It was decided that the line passes through Greenwich, funnily enough where I was born, the 0 line is also referred to as the Greenwich meridian, and all time is marked from the meridian. GMT or Greenwich mean time is the standard which all the clocks are set to.
The Joke about the Bear, references "Paddington Bear" to all those that don't know who paddington bear is, The friendly spectacled bear from "darkest Peru" - with his old hat, battered suitcase, duffel coat and love of marmalade - has become a classic character from British children's literature. An anthropomorphised bear, Paddington is always polite - addressing people as "Mr", "Mrs" and "Miss" but rarely by first names - and kindhearted, though he inflicts hard stares on those who incur his disapproval. He has an endless capacity for innocently getting into trouble, but he is known to "try so hard to get things right". He was discovered in London Paddington station
The zero line of longitude does indeed run through the UK. If you visit Greenwich you can see the actual line. The Peruvian bear refers to Paddington Bear (who loves marmalade sandwiches), he has a statue in Paddington railway station in London.
The thing about the UK being the centre of the earth is in reference to the international meridian conference from 1884 where Greenwich in London, England was agreed upon by 41 delegates from 26 countries (except the ones from France) to be the central point of the the world for the 0 line of longitude used on maps and charts.

He is very well spoken.
Can see the jokes just fly over their heads. 😂😂😂
It's like watching any America watch anything about the planet 😂 ahhh bless em.

The 0 degree longitude runs through Greenwich, london. It's also the 0 mark for the timezones; hence gmt or Greenwich Mean Time, and everyone else adjusts up or down from that, US is behind, between -5 and -9 hours whilst the other side, Germany is +1, Russia is +2 to +10
It never ceases to amaze me how people don't seem to have picked up on the fact that the man behind the stage persona, 'Al Murray', is mocking the absurdity of his stage persona's opinions, not the targets at which that persona aims.
The real Al Murray has no more in common with his act than he does a gatepost.
The entire character is a spoof pub landlord!
Al Murray is a very well educated/spoken man😂😂😂😂😂
I'm so glad the lady got the 'up to a point' gag. She's the first I've ever seen crack a grin at that. Well caught my dear x
Joke about Peru is Paddington Bear 😂
Book and films called Paddington bear from Peru that eats Marmalade sandwiches. Well science shows the UK line around the world as center before the world tilted 3 degrees in the 1990s because of nuclear bomb testing in the same hemisphere.
The bear referred to is Paddington Bear with his marmalade sandwich, suitcase and hat.
The Zero meridian runs through Greenwich, England & all other time zones are based on how far East of it they are.
you'd never believe someone could turn a geography quiz into an hilarious standup bit.
The meridian line and time is absolutely correct
1:09 GMT means the 0 point runs through London borough of Greenwich. This means the UK is 0 and every longitude has a + to the east of that line and every longitude east has a - hours. So the UK is placed on world maps as the center 0. If your in France its +1 hour difference in local time from the 0 location. Finland is +2 head. Dallas is - 6 behind.
Google: World Time Zones Map. You'll see the point.
Centre
@@MrVillamike Center and centre have the same meaning. Center is the correct spelling in American English, but British English writers usually prefer centre.
@@darrellpowell6042 "Centre" is not so much preferred but the correct form in English. From the French "centre", Latin "centrum" and Greek "kentron". American scholars such as Webster, quite reasonably, tried to simplify English and make it phonetic, hence the numerous spelling differences.
@@scientiautverum Thank you Alexa
0 degrees longitude, from which all calculations with regards to position East or West are taken. It passes through Greenwich , Hence Greenwich Mean Time. Visit Greenwich and you can stand with your feet in both hemispheres
The longitudinal line zero (the prime meridian) does run through England. It was put there by us long ago. Spain, Portugal and Italy all wanted it there, but we won. All timezones are from GMT (Greenwich Mean Time) although these days some refer to it as UTC (Universal Time Coordinated) since January 1960...
Thank Microsoft for the popularity of UTC, they didn't like using GMT...
The line is a real at Greenwich (Greenwich Mean Time.)🇬🇧
yeP
Refer to Greenwich Mean Time - GMT, and 0 longitude north to south running through Greenwich, in London, UK!
The bit with the bear is a kids program about a bear from puru called Paddington bear lol 😂
Say that to Napoleon Bonaparte? That is exactly what we did. :D
21:53 He's referring to Paddington Bear from the children's books by British author Michael Bond, said to be "the friendly bear from darkest Peru". Yeah, only English schoolkids would get it.
What's a great dane? Think Scooby Doo...
crucially in these inflamatory times he didnt dig into hate ,,, it was lighthearted and nice
Bulgaria etc are the wimble countries is reference to an old kids TV show called the wombles. Peru is reference to Paddington Bear. I could see from your reactions a few things went over your heads.
Britain invented time, gravity and being Great .
As Admiral Nelson said;
"You must hate a Frenchman as you hate the Devil. "
I think God also said the same when he reflected on how part of the human race became French 😧
If you go to Greenwich Observatory there is a plaque in the ground there showing 0 degrees.
The dude is top level. Getting to grips with the character is tough at first. Especially when 🏴🤘
Good vid folks. I’ll subscribe.
🎩doffed
It is true. The British created pretty much everything.
Greenwitch mean time. Will give you a time line enjoyed the reaction .All the best from Scotland to You and Yours. Rab x
Pizza is just cheese on toast with extra toppings
Known as Italian rarebit which introduced to the UK in the 1950's.
Welsh rarebit is basically cheese on toast with ham in it.
“Say that to napoleon” I have one word for that Waterloo 😂😂 and another one 1815
The zero line of longitude does indeed run through the UK. If you visit Greenwich you can see the actual line. The Peruvian bear refers to Paddington Bear (who loves marmalade sandwiches), he has a statue in Paddington railway station in London.
I love your wife's reaction she'd do good in a British pub and handle the banter I think lol
Flipping love al murray 😂😂😂
