Noosha was mentioned in an article I was reading about Kate Bush. I'd not heard of her or Fox before but I've been listening to their back catalogue and have fallen in love with her voice!!
I was 7 in 1976, i also dreamt of meeting Kate Bush every night in year 4. Kate is my best. I also loved Lene Lovitch when she came out. Hope you dig Lene
was 5 when my aunt Pauline maybe16 at the time played this cool song dancing in her pink bedroom back in1976. still love this song at 40s. love you aunt Pauline you're still cool and you're song too love it. thanks for posting.
I used to play in a band for many years with the guitarist in Fox (great player) who told me that he was very bitter about Noosha "throwing it all away" when things were on a roll to pursue a solo career. We all know where that got her.
This is an original clip... This was released in 1976 in Europe and Britain as well... By 1982 Noosha Fox had been a solo artiste for a few years and, this band is FOX... her old band. Also, this outfit is the one worn in 1976. In 1982 people didn't look like this anymore... So, I can say this is genuine 1976... original FOX ... no remix... no Noosha solo...
I'm mad about this song and the other output from this band. Noosha is quite special and I was or six when this came out in the UK. Still sounds fresh.
The song is erelivant, It`s all about being free to express whatever you want with out tools trying to figure out what your saying....It`s art...Does anyone question Dal`s works.....And why listen to the song if you want to critisise...
The vid is a BBC Top Of The Pops taping that was, for a change, NOT recorded in front of a live audience, something that happened, when bands were charting, but, due to other obligations, could not attend the times when the BBC recorded the weekly TOP OF THE POPS show. The TALK BOX is too organic to reproduce in the studio other than by means of playing a guitar and sing through the pipe. There is software that can sort of emulate singing, but the human voice is too complex to fully emulate.
Sorry, your right, its not a reverb. Also, I was not referring to Noosha but Jim. Its called a flanger, run a tube from the foldback to the mic. Check out the live clips, when Jim does the hook, he puts a clear tube in is mouth.
@metastopheles I am sorry to disappoint you, but, that is NOT a flanger... a flanger is usually a guitar stomp effect (though often used in postproduction on other soundsources as well) The culprit you are referring to is a TALK BOX... a bit like a vocoder.. but instead of a synthsound carrying, the guitar carries the voice here... Talkboxes were very much 'en vogue' in the 70's, though they have made somewhat of a comeback and are widely available.
@metastopheles The 1980 stuff she did with FOX was contractual obligations... she had already gone sole. Oh, and it's not a reverb on her vocals, but, some of the vocal parts have been pitched up and timestretched... probably recorded into Mellotron ribbons and played at a differend pitch. This technique was very popular in the 70's/80's... (Mellotron: Embrionic analogue forerunner of the sampler...)
Right ... so its mimed then. Thanks for pointing out the difference between a talk box (speaker box with a hose coming out of it connected to the guitar output) and a type of ..albeit crude .. flange (speaker box with a hose coming out of it) that is not connected to the guitar output. And if I do a search for "Fox Top of the pops" ... the clip is live ... not this one .... but hey ... I'm just an engineer ... Y'know the weirdest bit ... Noosha has the same flower in her hair in both clips ...
it wasnt a song ABOUT a washing machine!!! it was about a widow who would put her cloths in the wash with her dead husband's to see the clothes 'caress-ing' each-other, like they used to before he died....it wasnt about the washing machine iteself, there was more to it than that...
one of the (many) things i love about noosha is that she is a bit wooden and in a sense awkward when she performs (in a charming way) ..... like its not something you see anymore (its all very glossy/staged these days ie: coreographers/stylists), it just gives it a nice quality, like its more real and gives noosha's performances a quirky feel which i like, can't stop watching her, she is facinating to watch and listen to :)
@macintosser ... kool .. whatever... where is it in this clip? All the live stuff, Jim uses it, but in this clip he doesn't, hence my confusion of which has not been satisfactory resolved in this clip ... and my memory of the clips as a kid, you see him using it. Can you Talkbox post production?
Stutter titles: - N-n-n-nineteen, Paul Hartcastle. - C-c-c-can't you see, Vicious Pink Phenomena. (Soft Cell's backingsingers on NON STOP EROTIC CABARET.)
remember this from when i was a kid,oh the '70s was the BEST era.

I love the 60 & 70s I'm only 23 used to listen To all this in the car with mum and still listening to it love it better then the music these days
I just love this cool retro stuff, it rocks. :)
It's not retro. It's original 1970's disco/funk fusion magic.
me too.
Song 1, Side 1, of the Aussie compilation album Ripper '76.
the best ever song the songs of our youth 16 when it come out and it still lives today
Mmmm...The coolest woman of all time!
Thanks for this. :)
Came out in Australia in 1976, too! Might have been shown on Countdown in 1982...
Wow! memories. thanks for the post.
I guess it can't be a s-s-s single just once down under. :) It deserves to be a hit multiple times.

Thanks bondbug.. was great!
yep, I was like 8 and got Ripper 77 only for this song. I think it came out in 76 though. This will be a clip done in 82 of the song on countdown.
what a nice old classic.... i like... :)
I never heard of the band and her until....the Internet. Damn. ♪♪♪♪♥
Number 1 in Australia 1976

Thanks astapic.. don't you love it when you discover a little snippet from the past?
@Feisty1967 ...i remember this in mid 70's and i am an Aussie....
@metastopheles

A new video has come up with Noosha which I came across last night. Type in 'Heat is on'. It's very good.
The original is called D D D Double bed, banned in the 50's and never rereleased. It was too hot to handle.
Thanks RadioBazterd, will check them out!
I was surprised to learn recently that Noosha was australian.
One hit wonder? Fox had several hits, among them "Only You Can" and "Imagine Me Imagine You"
Right ... so its mimed then.

I was 13 and in my 2nd year of LSD. And i live in bloody Australia
I'm going to make a copy of her outfit and make my kid wear it.
Oops, didn't read the description:)
On my18th birthday
@brianofoz me too, i thought she was English, she sounds it on record....
@metastopheles
Accessories can be worn over and over again. Now, isn't that marvelous;-)?
Thanks summercos.. sure is!
Rage shows this as Countdown 1982, wasn't this song around 76 or 77?

Throw in the keys wooo
amazing what a bit of wild horse in the arm can do?? go noosha xxx
sounds like cruel and unusual punishment
Go Nooosha, Goldfrapp are so Noosha!
Vocoder break?
What are the chances of someone like her getting a record deal today? Less than zero. Pity.
Very good but IMHO the b side, silk milk, is a better song.
Noosha wasn't Australian was she? It was a hit in OZ but someone here said she is Australia? U serious? Really???
Yes, born in Australia.. moved to the UK in the early 70's though.
LMAO to you minority that do not "like" this wtf did you sit though it ??
