It's Military Surplus Wednesday and Luke has the British Mosquito Tent!

    Link : www.varusteleka.com/en/produc...
    Price : $28
    Weight : 81.2oz / 5lbs / 2301.9g / 2.3kg
A stand-alone insect net. Meant for British field cots, but nothing stops you from throwing a regular kip mat inside. Modern British army surplus, so we're talking about quality stuff for a low price.
Not much to say - you get the complete set needed to erect this and a personal mosquito net too. Measurements on the ground level about 200 x 70 cm, but at 30 cm about 180 x 60 cm. You can throw this on top of a standard field cot and secure it with the provided velcro straps. Weight for the whole package is 1,8 kg.
Used and intact. Can't promise these are totally free of rips or tears, as we really can't be arsed to check each and every one of them individually. The few we did check were in very nice shape and you'll probably get one like that too.
    Free Standing
    Zipped Entry
    1 Cot Mounted Mosquito Net
2 Sets Of GRP Rod Sections
    4 Pins
    Travel Bag
    2'8" x 6', 3' center height.
    Olive Drab color
I think this would make for a really cool and really functional system when combined with a tarp setup. You would roll a Basha tarp right in with the tent.

hey Luke, good to see you trying stuff from the UK, i picked one up at a bootsale this year, it was covers in dust but a 30 degree wask in the washing machine sorted it right out.

This is a bad ass piece of kit, love it ! No more sleeping with spiders and snakes and a 360 view .if it works great I I'll carry the weight. Highly recommend .

British army kit has come in leaps and bounds in the last 20 years. Great review Luke. If I didn't already have a Tenth Wonder Green Hornet hammock I'd probably get one.

A very useful review, Luke. Yes, this mosquito tent is on display at my local military surplus shop (in the UK) and for £20, which is similar to the price you said. Amazingly we're having a month of hot, dry weather in England - June 2021 - and I can see this ex-army kit would be ideal for me. Very good for short walks + overnight camp, because the weight at 5lbs is high, but I'm sure it's very strong like all surplus kit - good zips, etc. Thanks Luke.

      Agreed.
Im thinking of getting one to go with my DD tarp. That way I have all the benefits of tarp set ups, and all the benefits of not getting three pints of blood sucked out of me by midges.

@@TheWtfnonamez interested to hear how you get on, esp with DD tarp setup........
      Problems seem to be:
      1. Weight
      2. Quite narrow (but height good!)

@@nigelh3253 Thank you mate. My concerns are the same tbh.
I guess Im hoping I can buy myself some flexibility with my tent footprint. It would be nice to go with a set up where I could pull the front of the tarp out and make an awning when it decides to rain for days. I will let you know how it goes Nigelh3253, all the very best to you mate.

I love this tent, I have one somewhere in my pole barn, I been looking everywhere for it this entire summer trying to find it, oh well, getting a little too cold to use it now. -Jake

Hi luke, I know the video was done a long time ago, But if you have or can do an actual video of this tent with your tarp system set up so we can get a better idea of tarp size needed and how that would be great as I have this tent and are having difficulty with finding a good tarp structure as in set up to use for rain.

Anyone know the pole length on these, mine splitting... Great with a 500g tarp over it.

USMC Bednet. Very under rated and misunderstood. You reviewed them long ago, and they re great. I keep three behind the back seat of my truck for emergencies. Easy to carry in the pack, or attached to the outside of the pack. They are just hard to beat. Your video pointed out the only drawback to the bednet. They are too expensive compared to the British Mosquito Net.

How about upgrading the tent poles from other tent to minimize some weight? I have that same set up idea, because I live in the tropic. But $28 ....

What do you clean your gear with? you know that musty mold mildew smell that you can get when gear is old or not stored properly? Could be a good video.

Lysol works very well with the killing of mildew. Mild soap and water will also go a long way too.
      Thanks for the suggestion.

I kept waiting to here the price come in at $80-$120 per the usual inflated to all get out price of gear these days but $28 for a one season tent is actually darn good yet appropriate at the same time. Too small for a tent IMO could be good to keep extra gear on longer trips or possibly a beer & food cooler on day trips like family reunions and such.

How in the heck do you get anything from Varusteleka? I have had a horrible time with them. I first tried to get the Skarma when you reviewed it, and now I am trying to get one again. No luck so far even though they have assigned some Finnish guy to help me. Everything is, how can I say it, FOREIGN. I am about ready to give up. I could have made my own Skarma out of a truck spring by now.
