  • This video covers the Shark's primary weapons: Vikhr guided antitank missiles, S8-KOM unguided area-of-effect rockets, and the 30mm gimballed cannon. This is just for air-to-ground usage; the air-to-air modes will be covered in a later video.
Updated for DCS World 2.5.6. This video is part of a playlist with other instructional Ka-50 videos, which can be found here: • Ka-50 Guide

Always stay low if you can. You're easy to spot for a fighter and if you're busy with killing tanks you might not notice them. Also if you get a sam shot at you you have nowhere to go. Going to any kind of useful speed to evade a sam from a hover is nearly impossible unless it's a fair distance out

The missile range is actually a bit too tight. the vikhr can go out to about 8.5 km and still comfortably get a kill. This is especially useful against air defense targets such as strellas or even tunguskas that would ruin your beautiful afternoon if you were to go to the recommended 6.5km. The big missile range is about 13-14km, it shows in range at 7, which is wrong. To force a shot you switch the automatic fire control to manual on the front dash to the left of the cannon round selector switch.
Cannon can probably reach out to 5km, but the shots actually explode in the air after 4km for some weird reason. Dispersal is pretty tight with the sniper cannon but you still need a lot of rounds from max range to hit with any reasonable accuracy. Still better than to get in manpad range though.
I have found that you get better accuracy if you fire the gun while the laser is firing especially if maneuvering.
The laser will stay on about 6 seconds after the missile hits. So with manual fire control you can actually stagger two missiles by shooting one, then wait about 5 seconds and shoot the next one. after the first one hits you can quickly slew to a new target and get 2 kills for one laser cycle.
Rockets are useless in DCS because system damage is not modeled on vehicles. The trucks might not have blown up from that, but certainly the sharpnell would've killed all the tires and killed all the drivers. Also the KOM are anti tank rockets, so you pretty much need a direct hit even on infantry to kill it. I prefer the OFP2, but lately I just go with the S-13 pods because those are the only useful weapons on the inner pylons.

Hey Viking, came across this video. Great stuff! How you doing? 355th still active?

Doing alright, and yes, the 355th is still going strong! At roughly 7 years and counting, it's by far my longest-lived gaming group. Good team to be on!

If you send the data to a specific shark, you actually get feedback if it worked or not. If you send to all you do not get such feedback. So if you're only in a flight of 2 it might be worth considering hitting only the other flight member to instantly know if it worked or not.
