If your curious, the soundtrack, never released, was finally released several years ago on a very limited basis by Intrada. My late Mum and I loved this movie and the music. I bought two copies, for me and her, surprised her on Christmas morning by putting it in her CD changer without telling her. Within two bars she jerked her head up and demanded, "Where did you *get* that?" Over the years we had discussed many times how we'd love to have it. The big, brassy, driving, wide open opening theme reminds me a lot of the opening theme from The Big Country, another great piece of music.

My grandma met JW in Casper while filming this movie. She asked him for a autograph for me and he declined because he was in a hurry. This pissed her off and she told him i always liked Burt Lancaster he's a better actor than you..God i miss that women but we always loved the Duke also
I will never forget the first time I saw this scene as little kid watching the movie on TV in the early 70's. I said to my self John Wayne even flew the plane.
this John Wayne movie was great. What I liked about this movie was, the actors did their homework concerning what Roughnecks do on Oil rigs. It was good, its still movie though. But the collective actors did try to do a decent enactment of Oil Rig Work.
I saw the remains of the first rig that had burned up. It was out of Gillette Wyoming. My fathers Rig Circle A rig 10 was just down the road from it. He had told me that it had been burned on purpose for a movie. Strange thing about all that. He (my father) used to remind me of John Wayne and sounded like him. Also his rig was owned by the Anshultz Company which is one reason the movie was made as Phillip Anshultz had Red Adair putting out one of his fires in the area at that time. It gave Phillip the idea on making some of his money back was to have Hollywood make a movie about fire fighters.
Globemasters still bore the real heavy lift due to being a nose loader until the C-5 took over-141's could not load a tank or a wide object like the Globemasters could. Globemasters were outmoded as preferred lifter due to its plodding speed of less than half what the Star Lifter flew and far higher as well
@@teenagerinsac I rode on a many of C-141's during my time in the in Force. However, I only flew on a C-5 once - from Osan South Korea to Kadena, Okinawa. Also, I flew on C-17's many times.
I jumped the airplane with 101st and 63 or 64 out of fort Campbell. I remember it had two floors the second floor had to go down to the first floor to jump out. Typical Hollywood Overkill using the c-124 to bring John Wayne into a fire not the most economical way of course it does present great focus on John Wayne after the doors of the 124 opens up and he alone walks down
Actually, now Bar Nunn , Wyoming. This was the old Wardwell airport replaced by the military airbase. The town of Bar Nunn is built on the old runways.
Toured this air frame at the air museum of Travis AFB. Went to a medical back-up call one night, when some drunk airmen got inside. One fell from the upper deck to the lower floor. He was not in good shape.
I read somewhere years ago that John Wayne said that Hellfighters was the hardest movie that he ever had to work on and he did about 93% of the stunts and I believe it
Yes, he was in the majority of the film; his stunt man, Chuck Robertson, would only go in right before the dynamite exploded. It was a dangerous film to shoot, as there were no "special effects"... real dynamite was used just as Red Adair and his team used it.
Talk about a huge can of corn with that "waving" shot! Actually was interesting the lack of help these guys had? I mean Duke and Joe have to unload? Come on! Get some "gophers" in here!

As a heavy equipment operator in the 80s, I wanted a seat on a wild well team but a woman ff/heo on a ground team hadn't happened yet until Kuwait 1991. By then I was married and blowing out son #2 lol! Peace be with y'all.
I may be wrong, but I think I see about 75% of the "US Army" cast of "The Green Berets" in this short clip. Seems the Duke was loyal all around. Good flick! CW4 Mark Hamersly
Love this movie
I wished i could see that movie its a good i had family that worked with the owner and his company
Another classic from the Duke
what an entrance!
An entrance only John Wayne could do......
They need some Roundup on that runway.
Great scene
He was what were right in America, now look at us...
LOVE this movie!
We went to the movies and watched this one....skyview drive-ins. Dad never missed a John Wayne movie!
He's why my parents gave me the name they did, in 1965 John Wayne was as iconic as they came.
Flew on one from Athens Greece to Frankfort Germany in 1966 while in the Air Force.
My grandma met JW in Casper while filming this movie. She asked him for a autograph for me and he declined because he was in a hurry. This pissed her off and she told him i always liked Burt Lancaster he's a better actor than you..God i miss that women but we always loved the Duke also
l met him many years ago a fine gentleman
The G rated version is the Heckfighters.
When I was a kid, boys wanted to be either the six million dollar man, Evel Knievel, Bruce Lee or John Wayne..I tried hard to be like all four
I really like this movie. It is not shown often on the movie channels.
The C-124 Globemaster II was the USAF's primary heavy-lift aircraft until the introduction of the C-141 Starlifter in the mid to late 1960's.
Love to see the whole movie
I jumped the airplane with 101st and 63 or 64 out of fort Campbell. I remember it had two floors the second floor had to go down to the first floor to jump out. Typical Hollywood Overkill using the c-124 to bring John Wayne into a fire not the most economical way of course it does present great focus on John Wayne after the doors of the 124 opens up and he alone walks down
I love all his movies!
His character is based on "Red" Adair the famous oil well firefighter.
Casper Wyoming I remember this
Actually, now Bar Nunn , Wyoming. This was the old Wardwell airport replaced by the military airbase. The town of Bar Nunn is built on the old runways.
Thomas Cooper used to be bad ass party’s on the old air base
My Dad met Duke at one of the local watering holes during the shoot. I don't remember who bought the drinks....
LOVE IT!
Good clip my compliments sir
Toured this air frame at the air museum of Travis AFB. Went to a medical back-up call one night, when some drunk airmen got inside. One fell from the upper deck to the lower floor. He was not in good shape.
Great clip -- where else can you see Shakey and the Duke?
Great film.
Ladies and Gentlemen that is a real movie star
worked on & around the C124's , 1962 to 1966 , good memories
Somebody once told me they called them the Ford Tri-Motor, because they'd always lost an engine in flight!
Me too on Okinawa 65, 66 how about you?
I read somewhere years ago that John Wayne said that Hellfighters was the hardest movie that he ever had to work on and he did about 93% of the stunts and I believe it
Yes, he was in the majority of the film; his stunt man, Chuck Robertson, would only go in right before the dynamite exploded. It was a dangerous film to shoot, as there were no "special effects"... real dynamite was used just as Red Adair and his team used it.
Great 🎥
A great movie. Makes me want a go fight oil rig fires. Loosely based on Red Adair.
Draft Dodger “Duke”. The closest he’s ever been to active duty.
Talk about a huge can of corn with that "waving" shot!
Actually was interesting the lack of help these guys had? I mean Duke and Joe have to unload? Come on! Get some "gophers" in here!
Great movie
