They need a good attorney and they should hopefully be able find one especially with the press coverage received. Someone will take the case and work on the basis they are compensated once and if the family is. Locking her up for 2 weeks and then finding out the child had nothing to do with the threats whatsoever. It should not take 2 weeks to have held her in a juvenile detention center/facility for someone to take the time (a few hours, maybe, or even a day or two to be generous) and figure out the emails were not coming from the young girl, but another person. This is the system failing. Leaving her locked up for two weeks; any parent would be beside themselves. Lastly, being handcuffed and put in a juvenile dentition center is definitely traumatizing. There was no reason this had to happen like this and should have been investigating throughly as soon as it occurred. Especially involving a 13 year old girl who said she didn’t do it. Did they even consider in the very beginning that she maybe innocent? Or did they act on the information as it was purposely provided in a manner to frame her and not reveal the real perpetrator vs. doing a an investigation immediately after taking her to jail (and/or immediately when being taken away)? Obviously, the latter. It was bad enough that she was innocent. What took two weeks for someone to take the time to investigate properly? That girl must have been so scared and cried so much. You can even tell looking at her, this has been a lot for her. It would be for anyone but a child. Enough to do damage; PTSD, unfortunately is likely. Dealing with the mental, emotional toll is heartbreaking to think about. Those two weeks must have felt like an eternity for both, mother and daughter. When the judge apologized and her little voice said, “It’s okay “, I know a lot of us thought, “NO! IT”S REALLY NOT!”
Why so quick to make the arrest as well? Why not keep her home or house arrest until they investigated properly? At least then, she would not have been able to “run away “ (since they suspected it was her and treated her like a delinquent) and they would have been able to figure out the truth without locking her up for two weeks and then come to find someone else was responsible and this young girl was 💯 innocent . Just seems like they really dropped the ball, didn’t take the time, failed to investigate in a timely manner, and/or take the necessary steps to make sure the person in custody was in fact the offender. Too many holes. Wishing everyone the best, possible!

I need to also sue the system for allowing Lezlie Davis to get away with attempting to murder me, making false report about me to DCF, harassing me on Facebook, Instagram and my job. Lezlie Davis have helped Imeru Cameron kidnapped my daughter April 10, 2021, the police was called and they did nothing despite me having a life restraining order on him since 2015. Imeru Cameron have also tried to murder my children, I and any man who get close to me that's not from his circle. Lezlie Davis have willingly allowed Imeru Cameron to sell drugs amongst the children and do fraud as she also does to pay bills but yet she made a false report to DCF on me. She's apart of the reason why I had to stop doing hair because she would not stop harassing me. Lezlie Davis stopped harassing me now that her daughter is facing her karma. If this haven't happened she would continue to harass me. Lezlie Davis is apart of the drug organization some of my own family members are apart of. I was suppose to be the sacrificed because of what I know about some my family family members that can put them in prison for a very long time. She and them all assumed I would not leave ve to tell the TRUTH but the Almighty has the last say so. KARMA does not discriminate...

What a traumatic experience for that poor child! And saying "sorry" isn't a satisfactory response on behalf of the court and police. Now the shoe's on the other foot and they need to make this up to this child.

The investigation would have been delayed by how long it took the IT companies to provide the information, which they would have required a warrant for.
An account with her name on would almost certainly have been probable cause for an arrest. So, I don't see much mileage in any attempt at a lawsuit.
The school did what they are required to do by reporting it to the police.
The guilty party is the person who created the fake account.

14 whole days? I'm saddened to hear this. Very traumatizing and thank goodness her mother fought hard for her child and someone listened but still it shouldn't have gotten that far. Now that very student that did this needs to be all over the media like this poor innocent child was. Regardless how charges were dropped, you will still have people look at her as if she committed a crime. Defamed her character! I know mom must have went crazy and was traumatized as well.

I don’t think people realize how easy it is for this to happen. Nor do people realize how traumatizing it is for a child and parent to go through this, innocent or guilty. The police and courts need to do a better job making sure a child is an actual threat to the community before they cause harm like this. They seem to never lock up the kids that are actually problems.

Several reports have stated that Nia Whims was bullied relentlessly by her tormentor for months before this incident. To all parents and students reading this: you have the choice now to choose remote learning. As soon as someone starts bulling you or your child pull them out of school because the situation most likely will not get better. When the only students left attending the school are the bullies maybe things will change. That being stated, it's possible that even if Nia had left school before this incident her tormentor might have still perpetrated this fraud.

IP address data should be recovered with any cyber investigation. It's common for people to withhold their true identity online and the possibility of falsified identities should be in mind when investigating cyber crime.
Does the police not have trained cyber forensic detectives to conduct cyber investigations? The average detective isn't going to know what data to collect, but a person who is essentially a White Hat hacker would know what to search for.
