If anyone wants to know the math for deviation, there is a check to see if there is even any roll for deviation based on precision and distance, and then if there is a roll there is a different formula for calculating the deviation that can occur. When the deviation selects a tile, there is a chance to hit a unit or the ground based on the size of units in that tile. (So if an arrow hits a tile with 3 size three humans, 90% time it will it one of the humans and 10% of the time it misses them all and hits the ground).
So for the Bekryde, they have precision 8 and sticks and stones has a precision malice of -2, so their effective precision is 6. Precision 6 passes the first formula so there is no deviation check for ranges of 1 tile away. For 2 tiles and above there are range checks, but the math means shooting something 2 tiles away also has zero deviation. Then there can be maximum 1 tile of deviation for ranges 3-7, 2 tiles of deviation for ranges 8-11, and 3 tiles of deviation at range 12 which is the weapons max range assuming they don't have anything making them stronger.
Of course though due to darkness they suffer a -1 precision penalty, dropping their precision down to 7 underground. This changes the precision of sticks and stones down to 5, which means they are always doing the formula for deviation, but still have 0 deviation at range of 1, 1 deviation at ranges 2-5, 2 tiles of deviation at ranges 6-9 (Haha funny number), and 3 tiles of deviation at ranges 10-12.
I actually don't know though if this game rounds at all for deviation calculation. if it rounds up or rounds to closest whole number, then the accuracy is worse than what I wrote here.
Still though this means they are honestly a lot more accurate than you would expect for such a low precision, just make sure that the stick and stones guys aren't second line or further back because otherwise you are going to likely be doing more friendly fire than you would want if your front line lacks good armor and helmets.

Oh and the benefits of precision double after 10, so to give an example of a precision 12 unit for comparison: No deviation check for ranges 1-5, 1 tile of deviation for ranges of 6-16, 2 tiles of deviation for ranges 17-27, 3 tiles of deviation for ranges 28-39 and 4 tiles of deviation at range 40. This is also why precision on mages does help reduce friendly fire a lot if you can get it up fairly positive, as even just precision 12 makes you a lot more accurate at long ranges.

There is a trick to making the undisciplined club troops attack in melee without throwing stones. This is handy vs Lavaborn to get surrounds with the greatclub attack instead of plinking with stones, as well as vs armored/shielded surface indies or enemy troops.
The key is to have two troops without ranged attacks mixed with the club bekryde at the left-most end of the squad. I used the heavy infantry spears, but any pure melee troop works. Something in the Dominions engine determines squad behavior based on the left most unit in the squad.
Squad position is determined by recruit order so you'll need to make a habit of recruiting spears either in earlier turns or to the left of clubs, and possibly saving some of the early spear recruits by setting them as bodyguards to use in case of casualties.

@@Milorada7375 I played a 55 turn multiplayer game as Pyrene, and it worked for me the whole game.
From watching Lucid's playthrough, he tested various ways of mixing melee units with clubs, but did not test the specific individual ordering of melee vs club units within a squad (because why would you).
Just having melee units mixed with clubs **is** unreliable - the left-most two individual units in a squad must not have ranged weapons for this to work reliably.

Recruit order does affect troop placement. You can see this easy with banner units. As for this specifically, I haven't tested it.

I played them some while ago and used a mage bless with reinvigorate 2 and far caster. Their spellcasters are pretty great in my book. I ironically also struggled with expansion in the early game just like the Ai. But the late game was really enjoyable, seeing my army of caveman get beefed up by my casters and just overrunning the enemy. Looking forward to the stream babel 👍

I enjoy playing one or two games of your race's weekly pre-game. I had a blast with EA Atlantis and Abysia. Last week, I wasn't feeling like dealing with blood magic, so I tried out EA Agartha. I had a Quickness and Chill Aura bless (giving 10 Cold Res, so negating coldblooded), and it was a ton of fun watching huge formations of big boy 24 speed Seal Guards and 26 speed Ancient Ones meet their enemies. I look forward to seeing your unga bunga this week.

@@BabelBuilder I've learned that I am very unlucky with Pyrene. As usual, a large part of that is due to cave spawn.
My first attempt (random map/caves), every tile was piles of ethereal undead. After waiting for 2 or 3 turns of recruitment and a prophet, I still lost the first fight. It's easy to be overconfident with the unga bungas in the caves. After winning 2 tiles, with the second one having a large undead boss, I sent both my armies at a larger pile of undead that also had a mean undead boss. I bounced, losing both commanders. Okay, on to attempt #2.
This time, I went with two large caves. I started one tile from a corner of the crescent. On the open side, ethereal undead. In the corner, I had zots. Aha! I wiped them and went back, pushing my way to the cave exit at the far end. Long story short, both that corner tile AND a tile through the only path out of the caves was cursed, giving tons of my guys disease as I ran through.
Attempt #3 has been going alright. But Machaka has a fear bless, and that plus invulnerability is like going against SCs on regular fights sometimes. Even with my own morale/leadership bless, it can be rough. It's harder for me to find best uses for my casters so far.

What would a drakon expander look like bless wise? I was thinking hard skin and recuperation. I've also read cyno shamans are a useful indie recruit underground D1/S1s(?), as well as the spell hidden underneath to get deeper into D and maybe S (as well as crafting golems).
I do think an imprisoned crystal soul could be good as you get more paths/scales/bless and you should start the game with the glamour site.
