its not a bad location but most of the required resources for later game, ie tin and iron is on the other side of the map. I find you dont really access this area of the map at all later game. An the hill on the eastern side of the nomad spire with the obsidian guarded by the ewoki wannabes( lol) gives the best base location for furthest distance and highest elevation anywhere on the map..my longest unassisted flight /glide is 2835m. You also cant beat the view, literally 360 degreees.
I dont think optimal base location in terms of resources really matter in the current state of the game with the easy fast travel. Just pick a location you personally like the most.
I can definitely see your point of view on this for sure but I am trying to present to people who may be mid game or early in game (as I was) who just wanted to set up a killer house and then go through the game, it is a bit hard to please everyone for sure. Not everybody has got to the other side of the map even at that stage and therefore have not even opened many fast travel points at all, I guess we all need to think in terms of where we were when we started, not where we are now

also with regards to resources on the other side of the map, that's what flame altars are for, if you are judicious in your placement you can leave these near resources (until they enable labeling you will have to remember what is where) and then just fast travel whenever you need to
I am assuming for people early or mid game tiger, not people who are trying to big note by saying they have finished the game, hence posting of a guide and mentioning as I go along that it is for those people
