Well, I'm making a base on top of those snowy Mountain top in Revelwood. Next base that snowy mountain top on your background. lol! @03:24 I have a base there at the moment. There was the 2 Vukah there.
I stopped going up at the point the skybox starts glitching and LOD breaks for the terrain below, then measured down and created a max-size altar where the top is just below that point. Creating and smoothing a 160m-wide disk of stone took forever, but now I'm building on my floating island. I ended up putting it roughly halfway between the Low Meadows and Kindlewaste spires since I can glide down to the large region there none of the spires can reach (both the Nomad Steppe area and the last part of the Waste down south) still. Might put a few more outposts elsewhere, but for now my time is mostly consumed with mining the materials to continue building my tower there.
The Pillars location was awesome. You don't need to max out your altar with cores. Just build up to the max of one altar, create a platform, and then drop a new altar. Delete the first altar, and then build up again. Repeat until you are high enough. Cheesy, but it works.
Yup that works fine as well, it just takes a bit longer.
nice! i got a plan for 5 sky bases myself over each "corner" of the map and one in the middle.
Game is awesome..Only thing id wish they would enable is build mode. Infinite resources.

I built my skybase directly over the middle of the pillars, center of the map. I didn't stop going up until I could glide to the entire map, then I built my base. Takes a minute to fly to the far corner, but I never have to walk anywhere.
The issue i ran was I ran out of energy but yes if you have enough energy then that would be the perfect spot.
Is there a specific reason why you build that platforms with terrain instead of using stone ceilings? You wouldn't have needed to switch the material.
When I tested it i couldnt place the new flame altar down on the stone ceiling. but it worked fine with the terrain. It's possible i needed a larger platform though.
Sky is really the limit now! :)
You can probably go much higher but you wont have enough energy.

I was wondering how the base was built. But I enjoy exploring to much to do this.

This isnt useful at all. You are gliding longer than if you just teleport to one of the towers and go from there...
Thanks for your comment. That's a good strategy but often the towers aren't high enough so you cant fly out far enough.
I agree. I have finished all the content in the early access release and had no problem getting around.
