Cruiser Positioning Example #1 - Mogami
Вставка
- Опубліковано 10 лис 2020
- Today's cruiser example will feature the incredibly squishy Mogami up against T10 MM. Conserving health and utilizing stealth and line of sight angles is lesson I'm hoping to teach.

If you don't bring Radar or any other sort of utility to the game, your role as a cruiser is simple, deal damage while avoiding taking it. Making that happen however, can be a lot harder than it sounds.

Can You Go For Survivebilty Expert?
Any chance of doing this for minotaur? The ship is strong but it doesn't feel like I have an impact on the match.
Great game and tutorial. Could you please make one where you explain how spotting works? I didn't know that fighter planes could give you vision over ships and I thought only spotter planes had that mechanics.
Thanks
One thing I'd like you to point out a bit more is Cruiser also need to support DDs when possible. If a DD provides smoke concealment or if you can use island concealment to block or mitigate damage you need to support DDs as a cruiser. The role of a cruiser to me is a about balance. You have to balance aggressive and passive play. You can't be too aggressive and waste your health or too passive and conserve health at a critical moment.

What Flamu said: "And the matchmaking is incredibly tough"
What Flamu meant: "And the matchmaking is standard tier 8"
Whine some more. Standard Tier VIII matchmaking is crapping on Tier VIIs now. Only 40% of battles in Tier VIII ships can have Tier Xs in them. All battles in Tier VII ships can have Tier VIIIs in them.
Jajajajja I agree man
@@Neneset I'd love that tbh, it's more like at most 40% of t8 games don' have tX in my experience. Source: grinding 3 different t8 ships atm
@@Neneset it's not a problem playing against tier 8 in a tier 7 though lol
@@Neneset I got my first T VIII recently. A dozen games so far, no T X seen yet.
flamu: "A good cruiser player gets to deal damage without taking in return"
Cv players meanwhile: hahahaha AP bombs go brrrrrrr
yeah AP bombs is ridiculous especially the german CV one, i was in zao and got rekt 23k from 1 drop by A.Parseval T8 german CV. freaking tier 8 CV. that is like 60% of HP gone from 1 drop, i asked him in chat he said 3 citadel. its so frustrating
@@yann9915 you are mostly correct but sadly situations arise where a cruiser has to be alone for sometime and that's when a good cv player shines.
@@yann9915 6 km is beyond the range of AA of most ships.
@@yann9915 seldom works mid to late game when 50% of ships are gone.....thats when CVs really shine
@@yann9915 not in my experience. In high damage games I tend to do 60-70% of my damage in the last half of the battle; AA being reduced through less ships and HE damage, easier to pick targets, more spread out (less AA bubbles) just my own experience, I find CVs particularly deadly late game
As our gnomish overlord is fond of saying: "Fair fights are for suckers."
Basic military wisdom. ^^
This is a great video. It's really improved my cruiser play. Allowing 5 minutes to pass with no damage and not worrying about it was a huge thing to learn. I usually start to get impatient if I feel I am making no contribution and then get myself in trouble. Thanks Flamu! More please!
11:08 This is the exact doctrine of the Imperial Japanese Navy. They would launch torpedoes from the cover of darkness, then open fire when the torpedoes reached their target for maximum shock and awe.
The slight issue comes in that wows doesn’t have nights lol

Thank you for the information

More positioning guides please!!
They're great and so are you, keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for this video. It was made for me. I love the Mogami but get myself killed when uptiered, and you describe me perfectly at 4:20. I feel like I MUST do something when it's just a really bad idea. Feel like I'm not contributing when there is almost nothing I can do. I do it anyway, and usually die, LOL. So thx again for this great how-to.
i need to know what to do when my bbs play like cruisers
Damn I’ve had a lot of games recently where I say “ How the hell did we lose that...” I look at the map and everything looks fine, then before you know it your east flank has collapsed.
I love my Mogami.
When I am hunting DDs I use the 155mm... When I am hunting CAs & CLs I use the 203mm.
If I am fighting bigger ships I use the hit & run tactics: Firing before hiding behind an island so the can't detect me. And if someone gets me, I launch torps at them and run moving as much as I can. Some people say her torps angles are awful, but for "hit & Run" are just perfect.
This is something I've been trying to bring into my games, and it's been drastically increasing my damage in games and my contributions. Thank you for making it into a simple guide!
Can you do a positioning video for flanking cruisers like Henry?
Anyway, thx for the information!
Very instructive, content I have been looking for in this format for some time...well done.
Great guide, the way u give examples to your arguments from stuff that's happening in the game is very pleasant to follow 👌

Excellent and instructive video. I realized that I had no idea how breaking the LOS in a cruiser really should look like. It was a good lesson for me, thank you.
Every video is like a master class.
@flamuu this is one of the best explanations of playing a ship that Ive viewed to date and that includes all the changes since this vid was made. Please return-provide such player analysis for all the newer ships avail in WoWS now. TY M8 :D
Love the video and i also love the Mogami :) and i think i picked up a few tips as well, GG Flamu!
As usual, excellent lesson. Thanks Prof. Flamu
I love this ship, though it sure does make it hard sometimes . The HE alpha is phenomenal, but boy do you ever get brutally punished if you make a single mistake in your positioning.
it s good but it doesn t get a heal witch is annoying
Aaaand that is why you play the Atago :P

Mogami is lovely. Great video Flamu.
Honestly, that repeated pinging at around 13:00 would have probably made me mute you if I had been that Östergötland. Once is enough, twice gets annoying, and anything above that is spam.
@Yonas Smeth The more times you ping in a row, the less likely I am to believe you know what you're doing.
I like gameplays like this, good job Flamu!!
ty Flamu this is a very useful and quality video.
Very good and clear explanations; good help to me. Hope to see more of this kind. Thank you very much.
Thanks Flamu for adding some knowledge to me. I've understood after watch this video! Your explanation is also easy to understand..! Very thanks
I really keep in mind about : Cruiser, sit behind the island and then shoot and shoot :)
Keep these coming. What I mist need to learn is how to think and what to think about.
Great vid. The "win hard" concept is so very real. Players think "It's in the bag, let's go crazy" so they charge forward to get DPS up and... so many games are thrown this way. Keep up the good commentary.
Thank you! Please do more of these with cruisers especially. Very very helpful to the player base that isn’t as experienced :)
Flamu as a self proclaimed potato thank you for this guide, my cruisers thank you.
This vid alone turned my shitty scores into average ones. Amazingly well explained, thank you!
Showing us a master class on how to use cruisers. Thank you so very much!
I have a jpn cruiser and this video has me starting to play it more, very good tips!!!
I just want to say a HUGE thank you... As a new player, I've really been struggling to get my head around how to play cruisers. I see loads of other folks share vids of great battles with perfect plays and pushes etc. It turns out I've been doing it wrong this whole time... The way you explained it really "made the penny drop". I am too antsy and impatient - always looking to re-create those great plays that I see.. I understand now, that those battles are the exception, not the norm.
I just experienced a whole change of mindset over the course of your vid :D
One of your best videos
I love these videos, and this one in particular I am looking forward to the most being a mostly Cruiser player these days.
Absolutely spectacular thx so much
Great video Flamu!! Cheers!! 🔥🔥💯💯🤘🤘🍻🍻🇺🇸🇺🇸
Very useful thanks! Of course all the things you talk about are much harder to pull off when there's a CV in play, especailly when it's two tiers above your CC.
great vid, thanks for sharing your skills and experience
Another great guide thanks, excellent advice and I will do my best to apply these lessons and be a more successful player.
As a new player I learned so much from this video. Thanks for making them!
Health is like planes. You need to preserve it. Oh wait never mind
Fantastic teamwork from your and the Mass.
Thanks for the info! And I can say everything that you said is 100% true and can even be applied ro low tiers. I learned this playstyle with my Königsberg and had monstrous games with it even against tier 7 ships.
Fantastic video friend! Keep doing this good work😀👍
I just got the Aoba and this has helped me tremendously, I always struggled with the furutaka and the Kuma. This is going to help me tonight when I get on and play the Aoba as a rear action
This was Great, i hope theres more of these uploads out there from upi,
Thanks alot for this guid! I found cruisers one of the most fun ships to carry a match in late game. I think.
Required viewing for any Japanese cruiser captain.
The 10km torpedoes provide that oomph you need to stand up against battleships, if needed. Absolutely love this line.
Thanks for this masterclass
Flamu: here's my advices
CV: are you sure about that?
Really while the advices are legit, when facing a match with CVs. You can't help but feel much powerless.
And It's extra fun in ships like Shinonome!
Another anti CV whiner, just sail in group of three ships and the CV will fell more powerless than you ever thought (unless FDR, that ship is broken OP)
@@Dukenukem just go play wowp 😋
@@Dukenukem Which is actually the worst effect of CVs on gameplay. Everyone stays in a tight group at spawn because there's nowhere on the map you can be unspottted and you need to pool AA. Anybody forward of the spawn camp gets spotted, focussed, and dies. If they do make it to hard cover, they quickly discover that island hugging and torp dodging are mutually exclusive.
Getting trashed by a CV drop is frustrating, but the real problem is the dismantling of vision and cover tactics.
@@Dukenukem
-> "Another anti CV whiner"
-> "unless FDR, that ship is broken OP"
What are you then?
I'd love to see a match where the team cv is a potato and the enemy cv is a unicum that got kraken unleashed and high caliber but the potato cv team still win. Sure that would be very, very interesting, please entertain us.
I can't play WoWS because I'm too unskilled so I watch Flamu to play vicariously.
Great information mate
Hail to the king
Thank you flamu
Thanks for this, good info and advice.
It's so important to not get impatient if you don't feel like your making a difference. I've had games, mostly in dds, where I feel absolutely useless for the first 15 mins for my time to come only in the last 5. WoWS is a slow game, patience is key. Don't get frustrated and suicide your ship.
this should be mandatory viewing for anyone starting cruiser play.
WG should incorporate this video into required in-game training. Great tutorial as always.
Yeah, this will help my Japanese cruiser gameplay. I've been mastering the art of the kite lately, cruisers are becoming my favorite class. There's nothing more fun than whipping around in an Emile Bertin or an Omaha at max range and laughing as maniacally as everyone misses you, even getting cursed at in chat (which happened in my wakeful yesterday). When I get into DD's more I'll enjoy them but for now, I'll be the mad lad cruiser at the top of the scoreboard almost every game.
Well played, Sir
"How to..." form one of the bests ingame! Yey!
Perfect. I love playing the mogami
this video was really help full bcz i can't play with cruisers but would like to have german cruiser cz hindenbug is really good but before you get it you must play 4-5 hard tires... when ships doesnot have much armor and they get just oneshoted all time so these things wich u said here gonna be rly helpfull

This has been the best trade deal of the history of trade deals. Maybe ever
great lesson, TY
Thank you for this.
Thank you sir. "It's been educational"
Thank you so much
Favourite cruiser in game :)
This would actually explain why I was doing pretty good in the Cleveland,.. but not so much in more armored cruiserd... I played the Cleveland much more carefully, because its quite squishy,.. and it turns out that thats the better way to play because you keep the dps in the game. Thank you very much for this video. It does explain a nice few things. Things I did in a squishy cruiser,.. but not so much in more tanky ones, losing hp unnecessarily.
yeah this game is kinda static...sombody has to push...somebody has to be focused...
I don't usually play radar ships, and the 155 magami is one of my favourite ships.
I've been getting great games in her both up and down tiered
Ok, yeah, I’ve been too aggressive. Thanks these are helpful.
Honestly what I learned from cruiser line rushing is that the most important factor to surviving is maintaining a weirdly inbetween speed. You want to be behind your DDs, or advancing BBs but have the enemy in range. You never want to be the one first spotted, especially if you are not top tier. This ends up in this weird process dancing with the throttle to maintain a pace within your teams fleet and only going max throttle in an event of escape.
Thanks man. 👍
This inspired me to pick up the mogami again which is one of my favourite ships except I ran into a double CV game. Actively dodging Perceival AP bombers and losing 65% of my hp in one strike and the other 35% to two ap rockets strikes.
You're a master.
I'll happily follow your suggestions as i'm a noob(especially at cruisers), and dying always cause of the things you said to avoid. I thought dds was the rogue ones but seems cruisers are too...
Thanks!
Nice Vid, I hope the potatos of my Team watch this.
The concealment build allows you to play a more central position and that is what is optimal i guess.
Grand master of all masters .....
Thank you, this many months later.
This sounds like really solid advice, I'll definitely try to play more safely. But what do you do in open water?
WOWS at its best
i'm gonna need that guide but for french cruisers now ))))
Carried so many games in the Mogami, the combination of kiting/island cover torpedo floods and starting fires is devastating for anyone trying to push into you. Can't help thinking after this there's going to be lots of cruisers saying "I was disengaging it's what flamu said to do" For the whole battle...oh wait that's what happens already :-)!
On the build you've got there, I think there could be two minor improvements.
1. 4th slot module: acceleration could be a bit more useful if you're already running rudder shift on slot 5, since it only increases rudder shift by 1.1 second or something but helps with starting and stopping so much.
2. Captain skill: perhaps consider replacing expert loader with preventative maintenance? 25mm plating means the turrets break from HE all the time, and this skill helps a tonne.
I prefer runing double rudder shift upgrade, but seeing how much faster she accelerates with your build, it seems a good option too.
I use PM instead of reload on her captain, too. Her AP is too situational in my opinion (but very strong when used properly).
Very nice gameplay. I also like to kite in open sea when facing ships that would have a hard time hiting me (bad aim, "small" guns, long travel time etc). Raking up both high damage and high potential is pretty fun. I remember getting around 2M potential once (and 120k dmg, I think ?).
THX!
Top shelf player...
