i ve taken the same approach when playing bb and it works most of the times but got a couple of objections : 1st is that you count on your other potato bbs to go 1-2 9-10 lines so you are the crossfire, 2nd bb guns are so untrustworthy/rng based most of the times that crossfire goes to the thrash and 3rd and last is that when you spawn on the edge of the map you somewhat have to be that potato bb on 1-2 9-10 nose in or else you cls there have no tank and will eventually fold the whole flank. what i find most people lack in this game, besides skill and knoledge of the mechanics, is patience and they dont stand their ground either fleeing from pushers or pushing themselves to get dmg early on and thus games lately are defined in the 1st 10 mins max. keep up the good work there , gl on the 100k

Yamato is a great ship for slow rolling into a fight with it's insane 26k range. It's a ship you want to take your time with but not end up like that one guy backing up all game in it (we all have THAT guy in a Yamato every game). With the turrets moving so slow (especially with legendary equipt), just take your time moving into engagements. Try and angle yourself towards a fight with all your guns, be the last guy in so you don't get HE farmed because it's hard to turn this boat around. The 457s presence on the map from the middle should cause ships to always be paying attention to you or be punished. Lastly, always try to help your team help you; target those radar boats as much as possible. You basically overmatch everything and get penetration on all these cruisers, so shoot them and help your destroyers out to move more freely.
Very nice, I could easily see your flow of logic, I feel I learnt a lot about how to adapt your position to both your teams position, and the enemy teams position and taking advantage of teams going wide and how to place your ship prior to an enemy push

Get the Bismarck and the line becomes great. Anything before the Bismarck is suffering. There is no positioning with Bismarck. You pick a flank, go there and even if you mess up and overcommit you can run away cuz you won't take citadel damage like Yamato due to turtleback. For the first few minutes use Bismarck to shoot enemy mid range 12-15km usually, then as you see either your side collapsing (and other flank in your team winning) or enemy side collapsing on your flank you then go yolo in. Use islands and such to catch enemy off guard and brawl them. Good thing about Bismarck is its agility. I almost feel like playing a cruiser when I play it due to its turning ability.

Finally. I got into a discussion on Reddit explaining most of what you said here. They all cried because I wasn't a team player for not pushing, like I was a GK. Telling Yamato is the best at mid to long range (with legendary), because you overmatch everything so you get overpens all the time. I can finally rub this videos against their face with the most I told you so. Sad I won't be able to see the shame faces.
Also, the turret traverse is so slow that aiming at the moving target at close range would be suffering. Kremlin may do a better job at close range though. And I think Yamato's dispersion shines when it comes to longer ranges. Still remember my very first game in her where I land shells on a CV at max range :)
Central BB positioning is vital, but its important to understand that central positioning only pays off if you have ships anchoring the flanks. If you are a BB and you spawn on the far flank, dont abandon your flank to take mid position unless your flank is well supported and the situation warrants it.
I actually recently used central positioning with the Yamato with a division mate to create cross fire shots for most of a game. We came out of that with double krakens. Was great fun and a good demonstration at how central positioning can give you a lot of power as a BB on some maps! Still gotta improve my own gunnery though for better damage results.
I love how often you say "... to support my DD." This is something lost on so many BB drivers. They think capping is just all about DDs, and when their DD dies it must have been the DDs was outplayed. Or if the DD isn't capping, they'll say "DD do your job and cap" while they sit 15km behind the cap and/or hiding behind an island because "omg torps/HE spammers". Very few ppl can carry when BBs aren't doing their job.
I've played for two years and i"m terrible at the game. When I watch Flamu it's like I am watching Einstein explain space/time. I get it, but when I play, I end up charging into bad situations when someone asks for help. The few times that I've been top scorer on my team, we lose. If I am top player then I am on a very bad team. I still love to play but I also hope I get better at it.
Honestly, the GK isn't even that bad. You have to know when to push in without getting overextended. Everyone fears the Germans so the map control they provide is incredible. In ranked sprint, I played the GK and just sat in the middle of the map and most teams were too afraid to get close to me, so we took the cap and won. That is the true strength of the German battleships. They will be feared by everyone
yep id like to see if he plays GK central the same way. Personally i think it cant be played central due to limited range. Because of range and the guns angles i personally play it like a battlecruiser and on flanks
I totally support and like what you are doing because I'am also a battleship player. And I really get bored because of my team mates doing absolutely nothing but yolo into one cap, get destroyed and call me useless trash because I was in a central position in my Yamato.
I have covered the legendary mods extensively. There's a 52 minute video ranking them as you ask from January: ua-cam.com/video/VCF5dafKOoA/v-deo.html There's also a 42 minute video discussing their proposed upcoming changes from May ua-cam.com/video/Gsz0fdJss2w/v-deo.html
Thanks for these "Tips and Tricks" videos! I'm very glad to see a second one. Will this become a series? I hope so! I tend to shy away from playing World of Warships, because I don't do well in games.
I haven't watched the video yet but I played a match recently with my Amagii against a Yamato and the T9 german BB. The Yamato just stayed back never moving (wasn't afk) and just watched his team push, die, get pushed back, and then finally died because he never supported his team. He solely could have turned it into a win for his team as I was the only BB on the side of the map facing a T9 and T10 BB. Yet through slow pushing and using islands I helped push my team to victory.
lol i just try it out in the same map in random battle and it works great, i got a confederate and a solid 178k damage with Yamato, usually i often go to one flank with Yamato and i could only dealt about 100k in Yamato, so thanks a lot Flamu
Flamu, would you like to make a video about Bayard? Next Ranked season will be held at tier 8, so I just wondered whether to get it. As an "excellent" (at least imo :P) light cruiser player I will definitely play Cleveland ('cause radar ofc), but in case, I'd like to have an extra ace up my sleeve :) Awesome video btw
Thank you for explaining such good positioning. I’ve tried to use islands etc for cover in the centre but always get blatted by that bb that I never saw. I really appreciated you talking more about positioning in a “sluggish” ship like the Yamato. I am a DD main but I’m trying to do bb and cc. I do better as a bb. But I still struggle to keep my 50% win rate. The cv rework really hurt my win rate. And the radars before that. So I really appreciate you going into central positioning more. Please add more common bad examples because I’m confident you will explain why I keep getting blapped from random and bizarre angles 👍👍
I'm going to ask a dumb question because I enjoy this little series you got here. In terms of positioning, when do you know to start disenguaging. This is one of the hardest things for me as I tend to realize that I need to disenguage only far to late and I end up perminantly commiting. Other then that I never realized the central posititon was so strong and I appreciate the content.
wargaming announced they will be chaniging the way the yamato legendary works so it willl be nerfed probably because it overperforms in their book so gg accurate yamato
I have visions of this becoming commonplace. 5 battleships all center. They would be torpedo bait and carrier carrion but any flanking cruisers or BBs? Blap. Blap. Boom. Wise players would be mindful of the torpedo risk and use islands. Meme players would just ram their fellows and the islands while eating torpedos and citidels.
One thing I always did wrong was pushing too far in. I always thought that pushing "in" literally means "into the caps". I drove my BBs into the caps way too early, causing easy crossfires for the enemy and therefore very quick ways to find myself killed. I kept doing it because people were complaining that I wasn't making use of my tanking ability if I didn't drive into the caps. So driving close to the caps in a central position is the way to go?
Hoping you could do this for other tiers as well; I'm currently on the North Carolina (close to Iowa though) and wanna see how this works for when I (inevitably) get uptiered.
Hi Flamu. This is very useful info for potatoes like me. May I suggest a series featuring how to play specific ships vs specific maps? Maybe how to Des Moines in Ocean? I know that is potentially a lot of videos... but if you've run out of ideas, this might be something you might think about doing.
Can we have a commentary of a battleship on the flank next? Since center positioning relies on range and therefore gun accuracy to a large degree I would like to see how you play Kurfürst on the flank. Just a video to show how it should be done if your hand is forced
Tried centrally positioning in JB for your last video, Did get a few more citadel opportunities but got focused and destroyed by T10's. I think I prefer flanking in it with it's speed and pushing in to bow tank, Seems to work better for that ship at least for me.
Moral of the story: Sniping in a warship means maximizing your coverage over as many objectives as possible, rather than your focus on one objective (typical ground-based sniping). I wish more WoWS players understood this and stopped rushing their BBs over to border-hump the E-W lines -_-
Hi Flamu! Thank you for the great video! I don’t know if you will reply but I just have one question. When you put your bb in the middle position, do you prefer to position your ship forward or in a backward kiting position so you can get away when more people start to shoot at you? Given ur bb has a good backward shooting angle. I will really appreciate it if you can answer this.
You gotta do BBs with poor range (GK with legendary mod) and show us how this central position will work because I feel like your tactic usually works with ships with great range that can reach the entire map
I've been seeing UA-camrs doing that backwards position a lot over 2020 videos. In 2020 I started kiting in the Yamato so I'm curious if the tactic is still viable in 2021 and if camping or kiting is more productive in game. Now I want to experiment with my Yammy.
Flamu is here providing such good content and giving so many good hints and tips on how to play BBs but I still play Secondary build Yamato... No wonder my win-rate with Yamato is very low
Hardest part of the game is learning how to position yourself in a strong spot. Next is adjusting your position to how the game plays out. I still have difficulty sometimes and get frustrated getting isolated or singled out because I choose to hold the weak side when the team lemmings to one side. It would be great to see how you adjust when you see your team giving up one side and then getting stuck.
Great video. Possible to do a bb positioning in ranked? I find it quite challenging as I feel pressured to really be aggressive and support dd’s in ranked, but either end up over extended or isolated using either sinop or nelson (though I find nelson a little easier to sit back as it’s quite slow)
Amazing game...as always. I love Yamato, but sometimes what happened to that Drake happens too often to me...But, I'll try to improve my aim. Nice commentary
@Flamu can you upload more videos where you are in maps with this much of islands in one of the sides or maybe both? would like to see how much oportunitys and how you create them when dealing with this. Also can you upload one or two in epicenter mode? i think epicenter is the name of the game mode when the 3 caps stay in the mid of the map.
Can you please show us a stock RU BB, e.g. Sinop or Vladivostok, that is bottom-tiered and starts out in open water (e.g. the western side of the North map)?
Should I even bother to grind out 5 Tier Xs for the Research Bureau at this point or just focus on getting Yamamoto and wait and see what they do to the legendary modules?
can't wait to see games with 5 BBs on both sides abandoning flanks and going for middle and reeeeeing that it's supposed to be good since flamu said so..
I play not often, but after a bit of playin i got the GKfürst. And i often push to the boardes of the map to flank enemy ships, in the mid i am He spammer and DD food every time. Can you show how play with gk? (similar to that here, i know but still)
I also often wondered about this bad positioning of many bbs players. I guess it comes to the fact, that most players dont play this game to win or do something useful for their team. The average or potato player just cares about getting one kill and hitting 2 or 3 times nice in a match in order to be somewhere at the top half of the score. Nobody wants to be the one who takes damage.
That Volley at 10:10 was something else. This game could've easily been another 50-80k more damage with some more favorable RNG, but it does show how to deal with such terrible RNG, just keep your positioning flexible and don't stop firing. Eventually your guns will have an impact.

A VERY useful video. Recommended to all these guys that cry on forums "Yamato doesn't hit, doesn't pen, doesn't tank, doesn't win" :)
GK Next?:)) Good stuff, btw! Have a nice weekend!
Oh, GK, that poor thing should be put out of it's misery at this point.
just play kremlin krappa
Honestly, the GK isn't even that bad. You have to know when to push in without getting overextended. Everyone fears the Germans so the map control they provide is incredible.
In ranked sprint, I played the GK and just sat in the middle of the map and most teams were too afraid to get close to me, so we took the cap and won. That is the true strength of the German battleships. They will be feared by everyone
@@lennartmeinke8861 nah
yep id like to see if he plays GK central the same way. Personally i think it cant be played central due to limited range. Because of range and the guns angles i personally play it like a battlecruiser and on flanks
I totally support and like what you are doing because I'am also a battleship player. And I really get bored because of my team mates doing absolutely nothing but yolo into one cap, get destroyed and call me useless trash because I was in a central position in my Yamato.
hi flamu, are you interested in making a video ranking legendary mods by usefulness? e.g. yamato legendary mod vs moskva legendary mod etc.
@@Flamuu ah thanks! cause i was wondering whether i wanna bother doing research bureau thingy.
Thanks for these "Tips and Tricks" videos! I'm very glad to see a second one. Will this become a series? I hope so! I tend to shy away from playing World of Warships, because I don't do well in games.
Most Sinops in Ranked really need to watch this video!
Center is love, center is life
Would love to see how to play a BB in Central position on the Ocean map and Tears of the Desert map or how to play a BB at all in those maps.
- Say he is having bad RNG
- Immediately cits the NC
lol i just try it out in the same map in random battle and it works great, i got a confederate and a solid 178k damage with Yamato, usually i often go to one flank with Yamato and i could only dealt about 100k in Yamato, so thanks a lot Flamu
please please educate MOAR! We need more ppl get better! Thank you Flamu
cant wait for more episodes on this !
Flamu, would you like to make a video about Bayard? Next Ranked season will be held at tier 8, so I just wondered whether to get it. As an "excellent" (at least imo :P) light cruiser player I will definitely play Cleveland ('cause radar ofc), but in case, I'd like to have an extra ace up my sleeve :)
Awesome video btw
Great video, the Yamato and the GK are my two favorite ships, but I have always had problems positioning them.
I was waiting for this one🤩🤩
Or farmed by HE when I’m in a central position 🤦♂️
I'm going to ask a dumb question because I enjoy this little series you got here. In terms of positioning, when do you know to start disenguaging. This is one of the hardest things for me as I tend to realize that I need to disenguage only far to late and I end up perminantly commiting. Other then that I never realized the central posititon was so strong and I appreciate the content.
Minotaur with the legendary Notser captain
1:20 - Survivability Expert Yamato for the win!
Dream came true! Thanks!
wargaming announced they will be chaniging the way the yamato legendary works so it willl be nerfed probably because it overperforms in their book so gg accurate yamato
yes cant have a non russian ship being op nerf that quick
@@adeptusmagi Yamato is more like the opposite of op
I have visions of this becoming commonplace. 5 battleships all center.
They would be torpedo bait and carrier carrion but any flanking cruisers or BBs? Blap. Blap. Boom.
Wise players would be mindful of the torpedo risk and use islands. Meme players would just ram their fellows and the islands while eating torpedos and citidels.
the legendary mod really makes the gun a lot more reliable. I hate yamato's diamond dispersion so much
One thing I always did wrong was pushing too far in.
Isn't this match a while ago!!?
Love to see it again btw. Great vid, thanks for the tips also
You gotta do BBs with poor range (GK with legendary mod) and show us how this central position will work
because I feel like your tactic usually works with ships with great range that can reach the entire map
agreed. soviet bb has short range and at max distance, bullets starts to spread dramatically.
@@dusvlf0419 excuse me?? Did u see how Kremlin shells "spread"?
Blap blap ! Thanks for another great vid
Love your vid Flamu, quick question here, does central positioning work for short range ships like Kremlin or fragile ships like Thunderer? Thanks.
They should let you manually target with secondaries over 139 or something. So BBs can get in closer, the 155s would be quite useful against dds
I was great series! I would like to see that in current meta
Thank you for your lessons enjoy your videos please keep it up and Thank you.
Can you please show us a stock RU BB, e.g. Sinop or Vladivostok, that is bottom-tiered and starts out in open water (e.g. the western side of the North map)?
Your Roon deserved a compliment
Thanks Flamu for this video :D
Should I even bother to grind out 5 Tier Xs for the Research Bureau at this point or just focus on getting Yamamoto and wait and see what they do to the legendary modules?
can't wait to see games with 5 BBs on both sides abandoning flanks and going for middle and reeeeeing that it's supposed to be good since flamu said so..
You can probably make the same strategy for super cruisers as well. Stalingrad, Krondstadt and Moskva.
On my way to become Super Unicum with Zucker Papa Flamu.
Can you please show some central positioning on Two Brothers? xD
22:09 I've also received a reprimand for shooting down allied aircraft. How the Hell does that happen???
Every time I play Yamato I seem to spawn on the far side of the map with the fewest friendly ships on it.
What about a Unyielding, Unstoppable and Unrelenting series with cruisers?
