That trip was late so it was about 6 hours longer. I was hoping it we would be late again this time. I really like trains and we don’t have them in my province. Was going to book a trip from Toronto - Vancouver for this coming June. I was disappointed to see all the roomettes were sold out. How did you find sleeping in the lower berth?
The lower berth was great. I stayed there on both trips. The beds are bigger than those in the roomettes. I tried my sons upper bunk one night and that was great too. I took both when the uptake on the berths was low. On my first trip it was just myself and oldest and son and on my second trip it was just me and another gentleman … so we had a bathroom each (we did not leave toiletries as other guest could use the bathrooms too). The empty sections provided extra space which was convenient. On my second trip some cars had all six berths occupied and seemed much busier and less privacy. Go for it. The trip is amazing. Once you book call reservations and get them to move you to car 212. They seemed to fill that car last. Note that section 3 is more private and maybe a bit quieter as it is a bit further from the wheels.
@@liquidbenzene There is no wifi on the Canadian. You can get cell service along the route but expect to lose it in remote areas, especially northern Ontario. To answer your question on which famous hockey player comes from Parry Sound….. Only the GREATEST Player of ALL Time…#4, Robert “Bobby” Gordon Orr. Loved watching him play for my Bruins as a kid.
Yep sure is. I did not like him as a kid. Too big of a Habs fan lol. But one of my favourite for sure now. Too bad he finished so young. He was a couple generations ahead of everybody. Tough as nails too.
Enjoy, it’s a great trip. So much so I am going again in November. This time my wife is going too … her first train ride in Canada. Try and get room F. This room is bigger than the others. You can call VIA to see if they have one available and make the switch. Both my trips were from Vancouver to Toronto. You will arrive early into Jasper. Try and be up as the scenery is nice a couple hours before your Jasper arrival. Hopefully the train is late lol. After Jasper be sure to sit in the dome car. The right side will provide a better view of Mount Robson. I like the last row in the dome car because you can enjoy the view out back as well. Both my trips the dome car was lightly used so it was easy to change sides if something interesting was ahead. I enjoy dinner in the daylight. There is something special about a great meal, great conversation with new friends and the ever changing views. I took the early dining in late October and enjoyed daylight the entire meal. Be sure to have a pre and/or post dinner drink in the Bullet Lounge Park Car. Prestige passengers start dinner 30 minutes before sleeper class so that’s a good time to enjoy a less crowded Park Car. Just my opinion, but I like being in the furthest sleeper car toward the back of the train. It’s closer to the activity car, dining car and Park Car. Plus, just my opinion again, I assume the better chefs and service staff work in Dinning Car B because the Prestige passengers dine there. Get out of your room and enjoy meeting fellow passengers. You will have many interesting conversations. Thanks for watching.
@AdventuresWithTodd I haven't booked anything yet, but I'm seriously considering it! I'm researching, trying to decide if my first train ride should be the Canadian and the California Zephyr. I would love to do the Canadian prestige class as my bucket list, once in a lifetime trip. Do you have any tips on how to get the price down?
@@greeneggslamb9336 Prestige price is per room and never seems to drop in price. It may be a bit lower in the off season. Those rooms are real nice compared to the old school rooms. Apparently much quieter too. You have your own shower which is nice plus full access to the Park Car. The regular rooms are cheaper from about Nov 1 to Mid May and sometimes have discount’s that are cheaper once again. I booked the first off season train for this Nov 1 as soon as rooms were released … about 11 months out. The price today is about $1000 more now. If you can go short notice the VIA website provides nice discounts at times. Two person room Inventory is very limited however and Prestige rooms are never included. Keep an on the discounts and if you are from the USA you also get a big saving on the exchange rate. If you like trains take a short notice discounted trip and book Prestige 11 months out for your preferred date and time. That way you get to go twice, and both ways.
Depends. Prestige is very expensive but a berths are very reasonable if one has the flexibility to travel off season and pounce on the discounts. My lower berth cost $808 taxes in. The upper berth were even cheaper. Very reasonable for the four nights. The roomettes and bedrooms cost much more however. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for sharing. I'm going in the opposite direction (Toronto to Edmonton) in November. I'm hoping to go from Halifax to Vancouver by train next year if I can afford it. It'd be the trip of a lifetime.

Go for it. The trip is amazing. Once you book call reservations and get them to move you to car 212. They seemed to fill that car last. Note that section 3 is more private and maybe a bit quieter as it is a bit further from the wheels.

Cool. Thanks for watching.
How was the wifi on board?
@@liquidbenzene There is no wifi on the Canadian. You can get cell service along the route but expect to lose it in remote areas, especially northern Ontario. I did the trip twice at it was not an issue for me. I was surprised at how little I looked to see if it was available. The time onboard goes by so fast. It seemed like we were always called to eat lol.
I can’t wait to make my third trip this fall. My wife had never been on a train in Canada but my videos sold her on the trip. She is going with me.
Hope you can make the trip some day.
If you have any questions send them along.
Thanks for watching.
@@AdventuresWithTodd - interesting to learn. Amtrak had wifi up and running on SW Chief and Lakeshore Limited several years ago and as far as I can recall the signal was reliable.
@@nuntius1933 Thanks for dropping back and letting me know you got my reply.

It's just "Canadian" or the "Canadian". VIA dropped the formal "The" when it took over the train from CP Rail in '78.
@@bobjohnson205 Thanks Bob. I will remember that for my next trip this fall.
Im taking the Tor-Van with my GF in a room for 2 … any tips?
@@AdventuresWithToddgreat tips, thank you!!
@@greeneggslamb9336 Thanks for watching. Are you travelling anytime soon.
Train is a great way to travel but to efin expensive now a days

Station in Edmonton doesn't open until 5:00! People with luggage and kids forced to wait in the heat outside with no water or access to bathroom. It's so far out of town. Dome car windows dirty for three days. This took away from the beautiful view. Please fire the idiot who is doing this terrible stuff right now!
@@eslmr.bobscreativeteaching9384 wow not good. It would certainly be disappointing having dirty dome windows. They were nice and clean both my trips. Hope they are clean for my next trip in the fall.
Thanks for taking the Time to send along your experiences from your trip.
My trips were early May and late October. No flies and bugs those times of the year. When did you make the trip?
This trip with the dirty dome windows was during the beginning of August.
@@eslmr.bobscreativeteaching9384 i wonder if this was a one off or if its common in the summer months due to flies, bugs and smoky Wildfires.
One minute in, and I realized that this is another one of these no audio narration videos, that you have to sit and read the narrative on screen. Absolutely worthless video in my opinion if I can’t sit back and enjoy and listen to a decent narration from the person that posts the video. It’s just not worth watching.
@@ka1133 Thanks for stopping by and trying to watch. I appreciate you taking the time to provide feedback. There are plenty of excellent UA-cam videos out there that provide great commentary. I am too shy and try to keep my face and commentary to a minimum lol.
