Fire - Drone Footage at Old Royston - Barnsley, 14th August 2022. During the heatwave.

Fire breaks out in the field near Old Royston, Barnsley. This area is part of the Trans-Pennine Cycle network, alongside railway lines and puts the well being of the residents of Old Royston in jeopardy.
As I arrived on the scene, the fire crews were already heroically preventing spread of the fire as additional crews arrived. The sound of the flames engulfing the wheat and shrubbery, was like the fast flowing of running water and a very uncomfortable sound to the ear.
The drone captures the moment that hoses are directed onto the spreading flames, and we see by the end that the billows of smoke are thankfully being suppressed.

Thanks for viewing. I feel for the farmers when this happens, but also made a mess of the cycling and walking areas which we use regularly.

This is quite the scene, David! I think some farmers lost a good amount of hay. I'm always thankful for our firefighting heroes.

These fires are occurring on a regular basis during the heatwave. The fire fighters have been very stretched recently and rows of houses have been lost in our area.

As I left the worst of the fire was nearly out. No smoke rising 30 minutes later.
