Most likely why Steven maybe not migrating or may only do a short stint, is because La Niña may have a lot to do with weather being warmer than normal in the US and Europe which can alter migration patterns. Strangely enough, for how long this channel has been out on TikTok and UA-cam, there has been majority of the winters in a La Niña pattern with exception of last winter, but was a moderate El Niño, which may be why he has migrated about a month out of the years Steven has been on the channel.
From what I have understood the only reason birds actually migrate is not just because of the climate but also food and he is getting free food so why should he even migrate
yoooo I religiously followed this channel back in 2021 when we were kinda still in covid mode. I’m so glad Steven is alive and well and he keeps coming back. Much love❤❤❤
I found this channel a few weeks ago, can’t believe I didn’t find it sooner!!! I wish I had been following Steven’s journey since day 1. This channel deserves more recognition!!!
I mean I totally get Steven. He gets food from you, sparing himself the effort to forage and hunt and go migrating to get to places with more food. He has everything right here, the wormies, pinkies, sardines, anything a seagull could desire
Good job for cleaning bird poop, and not just after Steven! Poop is such a common vector for many diseases and viruses. It is great that the garden birds can have access to food without being constantly exposed to each other's faecal matter.
Robins are super friendly and can become quite relaxed around someone, once they get used to them. The robin that visits my garden only eats from the ground. I also have some seeds for the Wood Pigeons that also visit. Amazingly, i also have some blue jays, magpies and crows/ravens also visit, as i leave out monkey nuts for the squirrels. Had a Bluejay in my window box for flowers this morning, looking into my kitchen through the window. Shelled walnuts are also a top treat for squirrels. I also live in London, so its amazing to see the diversity of fauna around my locale (we also have tonnes of blackbirds, thrushes, tits, parakeets, warblers and the like around my area). Good to see your love of all things goes beyond Steven ❤
where I used to work as a gardener the robin would often just land just next to me the more if I was shoveling. to the point that they just kept around just outside arms lengte but very close . and react to what I would do. I was a bit sad when the robin found the mouse trap as that was it's end.
@@McVeezor If it's a wild bird and it's in London it's a jay (Garrulus glandarius). American blue jays are different birds (Cyanocitta cristata) and they do not live wild here in Britain. Common names can cause confusion so I hope this is helpful.
@@anaconda7184 yeah i asked because i had my doubts of it being a bluejay, going by what i know of their ranges. I wanted to make a polite approach to it
thanx for feeding the garden birbs...singing birds, esp Robins n blackbirds, (and squirrels) LOVE dried mealworms! I feed them 5 to 10 kgs here in Munich each month from amazon, all year round, they eat me poor! 😅😅
I usually just watch the shorts, the algorithm n'all. This long form video is just extra charming, your comment section full of lovely people and. your editing skill, is amazing. Your presentation is immaculate. As exemplary as those blindingly white crocs over white sox. I'm blown. Seriously blown.
Important life lesson. You will never know, what your career will involve in a few years. That's why you cannot dismiss any of your school courses: who knows, it may be an important thing for your career in the end. If Arryn had not listened intently on Animal Poop Studies in school, he would not have become such a successful man now.
Hopefully the cool weather won't catch Steven off guard. :O But i know fluff can't resist wormies and fishies. XD Glad to see the birb box company sponsored another video. :3
Seagulls only migrate for food purposes. Since he has access to consistent food sources, he doesn't need to travel.. at this point, Steven knows where his bread is buttered.. this is a great sign for your relationship.
My gulls didn’t disappear either this autumn. The only times I haven’t seen them was during storm Bert for an evening a day and a morning. No extended vacay
I went through all the emotions with you the first time Steven migrated. I’m kinda glad Steven won’t be migrating this year 😂 and thank you so much for taking such good care of her ❤
It's important to clean bird droppings from your feeder regularly for the health of our backyard birds! :) Your video is amazing as always. Happy birdwatching!
And more Mr Robin please🥰 in Poland I read at schood the Secret Garden and there was a birdy Mr Robin🧡 I love birds too, so o like how He was the friend of the Gardner and the girl
My mating pair of lesser black backed gulls only left 17th Nov almost a month later than normal. Left just before the cold snap when most of the uk had snow. They dont return until late March though, sunning themselves in Spain. Fife. Scotland.
You can buy a baffle to put over the feeder that's easier to clean, they make plastic ones or metal powder-coated ones. It'll still get pooped on, but it is easier to clean and sanitize than the wood. Nothing to do about the perch area though, haha.
Come back for another season of the old format and capture the magic of those early videos. Your new style is also fun to watch.. but the originals were pure UA-cam fun.
He’s learned that migration is for the birds! He’s better fed staying home and eating good portions than fighting at kfc in Spain or wherever he goes. Too much work.😢
@c0mpu73rguy in the us it's supposed to be super frigid this winter. But as of rn it looks too warm in the UK. Another thing. Steven might not even need to migrate because he has everything in close range.
I wonder why they wouldn’t place a tray on the roof of the feeder that could be lined with newspaper OR a mixture of sand and grit… this would be very easy to clean (just throw leftover sand into the garden along with droppings) and mason sand is so cheap. You would also be providing the birds with minerals and nice rounded crop stones, attract a wider variety of birds. Submitted for your approval Miss Doppertunity
Why would Steven fly away to warmer climes when he has such a dedicated human as yourself , giving him divine fish and mealy worms everyday , that is one smart seagull , I have a friend lives in Ardrossan , bought a house which came with a pet seagull called Charlie , he too visits daily for a jam sandwich and has done for over 20 years , but he does disappear for a few months and returns usually in March staying until mid September 😊😊😊😊
When Steven eats those wormies, it's like me at a BBQ. Ohh god I have 2 feeders and 2 bird baths and a suet feeder I know your pain. Ohh yeah a dog and 2 cat's it's a lot of shite here in Newfoundland.
we have 8x species of gull in the UK and they are all becoming endangered due to living in city's and being used to scavenging off humans thus forgetting how to be a gull in the wild ,also dogs often eat the eggs where they have laid in accessible spots.... love the channel though
Yes, it was always a mistery to me why Steven leaves only for a month and comes back in January or so when winter is the strongest. Till march I would assume is winter colds...
I feed the songbirds black sunflower seeds because that’s what they like best. Lately a woodpecker has been coming to eat too! And he hogs the food 😂 the birds will be flying around him fussing at him to hurry up but he just takes his time.
Did you triend ever rat together with Steven? He would have his powl of warmies and cut fish, and you would be eating a sushi or a smoked fish too. Did you thought about getting Steven a baby bowl which suck to a surface? That would be lovely and time Steven yould eat, slowly, not in a rush would be for bonding 🤗🥰
I think he came back really fast the last times, just enough to show the babies the route and then back for tasty salmon.

I never thought about La Niña in terms of how it affects bird migration.
My backyard songbirds all migrated 1-2 months later than usual this year. Steve might just migrate later than usual as well due to the warmer weather.
@@oh_k8true, but that will also mean, your birds where you live will return sooner also for the same reason warm weather early as well
From what I have understood the only reason birds actually migrate is not just because of the climate but also food and he is getting free food so why should he even migrate
The intro. The music. The editing. And the camera quality! Dude you've truly become a quality creator🙌 and humor is just top tier as always😌👌
Needs more work out footage 💪🏼🔥🥵
So true!!!
Yes! The lighting is so warm and cozy.
True!
Don't let Steven see that hoover eating up his wormies. We don't need a civil war with the sea gulls
😂
I came back after years to check on Steven
Glad he's still doing good!

Steven be like "nah, im staying, there is a pretty nice human that gives me free food here"
This made my day! I saw your video like 2 years ago and you and Steven are still chilling! How precious!
Yaaaaay no anxiety about Stevie this year!
We appreciate your concern.
Your pet seagull?? More like Steven's pet human ❤

So glad his little footsie is so much better!!🥰
The voice over of Steven saying "poopy" cracked me up so much I rewatched it like 5 times, and laughed like a loon each time!

This is a healthy relationship to have. You take care of Steven but it’s not at the expense of his survival instincts. You are a good human ❤
