A lot of the textures are better in the final version, lighting appears to be different, since its harder to light the environment because players can go everywhere, over an E3 demo where it follows a set path. The one thing i can say i dislike in the new version is that when they kill the deer, they take a second to look at the environment, and its gorgeous in the E3 demo because they actually have stuff to look at, in the final version, its just another part of the forest, not quite as awe inspiring.
Its the effect of changing the plot in final ver, instead facing the huge troll near the ice bridge.

I wouldn't be so sure about this. The demo looks better all around and is technically more advanced in pretty much every way.
There's less level of detail in the E3 demo in terms of finer qualities and sharpness. The demo has better atmospheric particle effects and shadows though, which makes everything look more real.
He does sometime bring out the good in games but i love when he rips shitty games apart
Linear Single Player with lots of content and decent duration to finish.
Great action gameplay and an added cuatomization that caters to the majority of modern gamers.
A story that is much better than its predecessors and a reimagined protagonist that has been a classic Icon to the action game genre and coincidently grows old with the gamers who played his younger days.
A graphical art masterpiece which looks like or much better than hollywood movies today or most of the modern games today.
ZERO microtransactions that almost every AAA devs and publisher can't live not putting it to their games.
NO season pass. so most likely no dlc content after release unless the gamers demand it so (just like with Horizon).
THIS should be one of the few games in this generation we should be supporting people!

turnermic17 the director Balrog stated time and time again that it is somewhat linear and that open world games are a hassle. If it is anything close to being an open world is its map design is like dark souls which you can backtrack from places you've passed through.

I think the visuals in the final product are so so much improved. The only clear "downgrade" would be the shadows being less pronounced, however I think thats an artistic choice. Plus I think the intensity of the shadows would have made some areas much too dark and would be visually annoying.

This is a game, not a movie. Just because something seems more cinematic doesn’t mean it’s better, good gameplay requires fidelity and distinguished visuals.

Some of the changes people are talking about with the shadows and lighting are just due to the fact that these aren't the same scenes. The area they're in was changed and the scenes play out differently. So the lighting wasn't the same. There are plenty of examples of amazing light/shadows in the final game.
E3 you can feel the cinematic atmosphere because of the shadowing while in the "pS4 pro " they have like so much lighting which is understandable either way can't wait for the game

Some very minor differences like the beard no longer blowing with the wind but this looks like an upgrade to me overall. I'm incredibly impressed!
AlkamistStar the beard doesn’t blow in the wind on resolution mode. You can his beard moving and all the other characters beard’s to during all the cutscenes
for those wondering about the minor environment mchange and camera pan out at the end of the E3 one that isnt present in the new one, that is because the released version the entire game is one shot, there are not actual 'cuts' in the cutscenes
The e3 version loooks more windy, you can feel the cold of a winter / snow
Graphical points aside, it's interesting to see how the placements of objects and paths in the game change over development time.

I don't understand why people say it looks better than E3 (unless you're looking through Sony glasses). The textures from E3 are better. The fur and hair (beard) actually move with the wind in the trailer. The lighting and shadows are far better in the trailer. Look at the characters as they move throughout the world. In the trailer they transition from light to dark areas and you can see the world objects casting shadows on them. There are also sun shafts in the trailer and not on the final version. The fog is better in the trailer. The reflections off the water are better in the trailer as well. There is more ground clutter in the trailer, and the grasses and brush look better. The blue animation on the deer antlers at the end is far better on the trailer. It looks like they over-saturated the reds/greens/blues in order to hide their poor textures.
I don't care either way, the gameplay is the most important factor and the current version doesn't look bad, just not as good as the E3 trailer.
Craig T True. A lot of detail has been removed in some places and more fog was added to the background. I guess the console wasn't powerful enough to produce the game as the developers intended.

I liked the 2016 version better for its cinematic looks and better shadows, however the ultra-detailed textures in the final release do look fantastic. But still, the 2016 E3 demo looked more realistic, because it didn't look so gamey (bright and extremely colorful). So for sure no downgrade, but a different approach I'm not 100% happy with. Apart from that, this game is an instant classic and will be one of the games future action titles have to live up to.

Uhm...I'm conflicted. I mean the character models and textures are far more polished and the colors are a lot brighter in the final version, but it also has literally no shadows, no dynamic lighting, less ambient effects, no ambient occlusion wich it had in e3.
It looks good, a lot, but the people who say this is an upgrade must really not be into gaming.
I'm illiterate in vfx so your opinion is worth more than mine on that for sure.
In 3D models is an upgrade as i stated above, way better in my opinion, if i can see that no doubt you can too.
But you just can't argue that the lighting and shadows were infinitely better in the E3 version, there is not even an argument to be made.
So upgrade in some things, downgrade (if not total removal) in others.

I'm pretty sure if it was a PC game those features would have been more significant. I can assume that all of that was dimmed down to run on the console at a locked 30fps. Also with the end of the PS4 life, with PS5 on the horizon. The hardware is most likely getting pushed to the limit.

There's definitely a HUGE difference but it's not like the game looks bad now. I personally think it looked better in the trailer but retail still doesn't look that bad, places like Kratos' face seem to have a bit more detail in the retail version so we may have some upgrades in the small areas.

And a much shorter draw distance, it has fog to hide the lower draw distance, the lighting is obviously inferior to the demo, so they had to change the tone mapping (colors, pretty much) and tweak the game for its new technical makeup. Demo wins.
iWillWakeYouUp I think the fog is a more artistic choice. Creating fog/smoke is some of the more taxing graphical features a game can have.

It was most likely way too expensive on the hardware. The framerate probably tanked in many parts of the game and they had to either crank down the visuals or not at all release it on the base PS4.
I'd say they struck a great balance. Yes it's not as technically advanced, but it's mostly details that don't really matter to 90% of people. For example, I guess you didn't even notice that hair, beards, fur etc. don't move in the final game, but they do in the E3 demo. It's most visible on Atreus' hair and coat, the deer's fur and Kratos' beard. Depending on the technology they used, simulating moving hair like that can become quite hardware intensive.
The e3 trailer had a yellowish tint. But i see higher quality texture and better colors in the final release. Anyone who wants it to look like the e3 trailer can switch their tv color to cinema mode.
The only thing that was better in the e3 was the fog. But overall final release is much better looking.

I don't see anybody mention about the hairworks difference. The e3 version has more hairs movement and wind reaction all the way from beard to hair cloth. I feel like the retail version got left out a little bit of that detail. In the end I like the retail version a lot better since it's better colors and contrast and we can clearly see much more emotion from just facial expression alone. I already pre-ordered the game as soon as it's available. Still counting down :)

Jesus, clarity doesn't necessarily mean more realistic. The lighting in the E3 trailer was faaaar better even though it hid some details. Look around you, not everything is fully illuminated is it? Some details are occluded in shadow and that's okay. The game looks great but now everything looks too overdone giving it an artificial look. We also lose some detail in the ground and some movement in the boy's fur vest when the wind blows it. And why did they make his eyes so intensely blue? It doesn't look as realistic anymore. This isn't Kingdom Hearts.

At 1 26, there's no wind at that moment in the final version. At 2 55, there's wind or are you telling me you don't see the hair and fur reacting to the wind?????????
E3 has far better lighting and more realistic shading. It makes the game look very cinematic.
However, final probably outstrips in everything else, except for minor particles and such.

They cut down on some small details that aren't very noticeable but are resource intensive. In the final version there is no movement in Kratos' beard and the boy's hair in the wind which can be seen in the E3 build. Same goes for some foliage and the shadows are better in the E3 version. Seems like they upped the hue in the final build to make it seem a lot more vibrant and alive, which wasn't a bad move. All in all a couple of downgrades here and there but they also improved some areas.

Some of it was clearly downgraded like the low fov and fog everywhere.
One can consider it added to the atmosphere, but it was probably just a way to hide the short draw distance or else it would go way below 30 fps

This video in a way is pointless, because each one had better scenery in certain situations, the deer scene in the e3 demo was sicnificantly better then in the finished version. Just seing the depth of field through the trees felt way more artistic. They didnt cone a long way graphically. They just changed the setting and layout. IMO

They REALLY focused a lot on the tones and shadows. Also glad they fixed the depth of field.
Actually,what changed were the shades and the light position, but there is no downgrade , not in a perceptible spectre, some changes are even better
E3 demo is by far better. Lighting reflection on the water at the bridge was beautiful. The lighting was sharp with high quality shadows and multiple light sources. Partial effects from fire, snow and ash. All of these are gone on the ps4 ver.

Multiple lightsources? The Final version has that, not the E3 version lmao. The fact that Kratos walks by a small lightsource in the E3 trailer while a part of his body not reacting to the light says the only lightsource was the exaggerated God ray coming from the trees.

Apart from the Ice on the Axe and the shading on the deer, the full version looks o much better, so surprising xD

the difference is the cinematic shader, on pc would be simple using reshade, but maybe will remain only a esclusive

i think in trailer the picture is more blurer and softer than ps4 pro, but ps4 pro has sharper picture and have more great detail, BTW overall i chose trailer version.. hmmmm.. but i think everyone know that developer make trailer scene better than the real game scene 😁

coolasiwanatabe1233 please stop lying. there's a clear, not major, but clear downgrade in the lighting and effects of the final release. that's not to say that the game isn't absolutely gorgeous, but to say it looks better is just wrong man.

The lighting is just fine. The textures also have improved and the colors are more vibrant. It's an upgrade, not a huge one, but an upgrade nonetheless.

i like the first version deer antlers and axe's frost more, it's less colourful but the axe looks much icier and less magic and the deer antlers look more "natural", it just seems to blend much better. other than that it looks much nicer than before, the newer one is actual gameplay and not tweaked or made for a trailer so we get less cinematic angles at times but thats just natural for any game.
Guys who are mad you have to realize devs usually put these e3 trailers with hype in mind so they jam in alot of the gameplay mechanics that are spread out through the game and put them in a single demo. And they also change up the cinematics to add epicness like the kratos reveal at the beginning in the final game we probably have already been playing as kratos for a couple hours why give him a over the top reveal hours into the game when you already have seen him. This reminds me of the last of us e3 demo a while back where alot of the mechanics that are still in the game were jammed into that single demo mainly to show off what the game has. The game is still gonna be a masterpiece so dont worry in sony 1st party studios we trust.

I liked the lighting on the prewview better at times.
The graphics look good, i dare say they are even better than the tralier's, but has been clearly a downgrade on the lighting. Still, I am HYPED.
Lexus Kyran there will always be a "downgrade"on lighting "E3 lighting" is what I call "Marketing lights" it is set up to look appealing.
Spiderman PS4 has amazing lightning, I hope it doesn’t get downgraded.
Lexus Kyran Same thing happened to Uncharted 4, they improved it on everything but they downgraded the lightning, it must be for optimization purposes, good thing God of war has 1080p 60fps option on PS4 pro!
Lighting and a slight downgrade on fur effects on the deer, the 2016 demo has a dynamic wind blowing on more layers of fur.

Release version looks a lot better on certain things and effects. But I kinda like the trailers more down to earth realistic colors and lightning and what seems like more fog in certain areas.
