    I picked up a 1989 Goldwing back in April of 2023 after not riding for over 30 years my bikes not quite as sharp as yours the paints faded bad in spots it runs great everything works as it should it has a saddlemen seat on it I'm the best part about it is I only paid $850 for it I live in Minnesota since April I put 6000 Mi on it to this date today I had it out yesterday the 13th of November and put 200 miles on it even though it's November here in Minnesota with that huge fairing in front of you I stayed plenty warm during the hot summer months I've rigged up a air conditioning system that blows cold air in on my helmet and keeps my head cool when everybody says this was the best Touring motorcycle that Honda made their 100% correct back in September I taped everything off and did the vinyl paint system on it so instead of mine being the maroon purple color now it's blue I thought I'd give it a try it turned out pretty good don't know if I'll try that again or just repaint it but for now it's going to stay like that with the vinyl stuff on it and with a little over 86,000 on it now I feel it's just getting broken good by the way I'm 67 years old and plan on enjoying it for a few more years to come

      Congrats on your purchase and riding again. If you're interested I recently posted a couple long videos showing some maintenance stuff I completed on mine.

    I have a 2004 GL1800 that was willed to me by a friend. I also have a 2000GL 1500 SE Canadian edition I restored for two years. I would never sell either of them for love nor money. The black one you have is beautiful....absolutely beautiful. Look after that beauty. Seriously....look after it. All the best.

    I just bought a 1997, very very similar looking to yours, for $1500. 115k miles and dusty, but put a new battery and all new fluids in, new air filter and new cam belts and it runs great. Your bike looks almost like it came off the showroom floor.

    I have ridden with a guy who has a 93 Gold Wing with 390,000 miles on it this year. I have a 98 Wing and never had a problem with carbs or anything else.

      When you say 390,000 miles. What does that mean exactly? Has he only replaced the timing belt? Or is that like new valve seals, new piston rings, all new engine seals? Are the pistons and rings and valve stem seals good for 390,000 miles without taking the engine apart? I'm curious, because cars generally get bad valve stem seals, and you have to take the whole cylinder head off, and replace the valve stem seals, and usually the piston rings, at about 260,000 miles (this isn't absolutely necessary, but you can see older Honda cars that smoke a LOT from bad valve stem seals, and worn oil rings).

    Congratulations, i love my 96 spectra red. You made a good choice in getting this bike. One thing. Be sure to keep an eye on the petcock valve, it right next to the gas tank lid. If it goes out, which i just replaced mine last week, it will give you fits with fuel getting to carbs...its actually a fuel shutoff valve ( automatic). And when or if you change out your alternator, go 90 amp, the 40 amp on it now is not enough to run any acceries at idle...i learned that the hard way.... congratulations again and enjoy.. symptoms on petcock valve... leaking fuel a little or fuel smell. Also check line to gas cap make sure air flows, it tends to get pinched against the frame and will cause issues with fuel pump by not letting tank vent...

      I recently went thru the entire bike myself and replaced a bunch of serviceable items. Which included rebuilding the petcock even though it wasn't leaking. It also has an upgraded Compufire alternator already on it. I will be uploading a video soon showing all of the items I serviced on it.

      NO SOUL? Goldwings created something better than a soul It's a relationship! Even in your review you began to see what you will experience once you take it on the road. There is NOTHING EVEN CLOSE in my opinion to riding a Goldwing... except riding another Goldwing!

    Lovely bike! I've watched about 60 or maybe 80 of these videos about the GL1200, GL1500 and GL1800. Not one video talks about the most important thing, the gear ratios. Japanese motorcycles are notorious for having way too low of gears. How are the gear ratios? Is the engine revved up way higher than necessary at 75 mph? I want to buy one of these, but I am extremely nervous about the lack of a true overdrive gear. Most people don't seem to care, but the engine RPM has a large impact on your fatigue levels, and relaxation levels when riding.

    • @HonkyTonkTX
      @HonkyTonkTX  26 днів тому

      Yes, over 75 and your looking ar about 3500, 4000 rpm+ and alot more fuel is used so fuel economy goes way down at those high speeds over 70. But that's pretty much any motorcycle with 5 gears, there's no true overdrive. I've owned several bikes all pretty much the same with 5 gears. I currently have the GoldWing and a Harley Road King Classic, same issue over 70. A 6th gear helps but those are more 2007+ on Harleys and GoldWings came with a 6th gear in just more recent years. The next bike I buy, which I always by used, will definitely have 6 gears.

    Is the idle surge a vacuum leak? Did you get it resolved?

    • @HonkyTonkTX
      @HonkyTonkTX  Місяць тому

      Mine was easy. After running a couple tanks with Seafoam and Berrymans mixed in, I adjusted the idle knob by the gas cap from 1200rpm down to 800rpm and it quit surging. Idles perfect now.

    Nice, almost IDENTICAL to my '99.
    BTW, get rid of that garbage H.D.; You are NOT doing yourself any favors by keeping that junk and you damn sure don't sound very intelligent with that stupid, "love my Harley bullshit".
    Right now, your ONLY saving grace is that Goldwing.
