    Beautiful motorcycle!
    I just got a barn find 1991 Goldwing SE with a matching trailer. It has 234,000km. It hasn't run in 18years. Got it for $500
    I'm in the process of getting it running
    Ride safe

    Just purchased an identical bike here in the U.K. - GL1500 SE model (2000 year) in the same colour. Had to travel from my home in Nottingham down to the South East corner of the U.K. to buy the bike, but it was worth it. The bike has only 12,000 on the clock and sounds so quite when started. Only thing I cannot verify is have the cam belts been changed. Most probably I will change the belts when I store the bike over the winter. It now resides in my garage next to my 1983 GL1100 and 1977 Kawasaki Z1000.

      I've seen stuff out there. But when take out the factory stereo, you lose the cb radio and the intercom. I still use my cb radio a lot. Which is why I added an aux in into the stereo with a Bluetooth dongle for audio. I also have a Bluetooth cassette tape adapter to play Bluetooth through the tape deck. Both work well.
      And honestly, if you just upgrade the speakers, it really improves the quality of the audio. My dash speakers were original Honda that were 20 years old. I replaced them with new 3 ohm speakers and it sounds pretty awesome.

    Have you gone dark side tires, if so 195/55/16 tire will cause gl 1500 to sit too low making very hard to put on center stand and bike tips over easily on side stand. Use 195/65/16 to get proper circumference of 80 inches. Voice of experience on tires also I run 4 lb air in front forks 25 in rear shock. Would like 175/ 70 /16 on rear but can't find that size.

      Not going to go dark side. Don't need to use air in my front forks with progressive front springs. I'm about to replace the rear suspension with progressive as well. You should've heard the comments from the shop that opened the forks to change the springs. The old springs were so worn out, when they popped off the caps, the springs didn't pop up like they are supposed to. And when they put the new ones in, it took 3 people because of how strong the new ones are.
      It radically improved the ride with the new fork springs. Hopefully with the new rear suspension, it'll improve again (not that it's bad. But I'm sure the worn out bushings and springs in the back of the bike are robbing it of some comfort and performance. They are 22 years old at this point (bike originally built in February of 2000).

      Make sure the timing belts have been done. Also have the forks/steering head checked for wear and have the fork springs looked at. If they are sagging, replace them. I'd also install the shifter brace if it doesn't have one. You can get them from cyclemax.com. it really firms up the shifting and reduces the neutral hunting.
      The big thing overlooked is the cruise and sub filters. There's a write up in it at the goldwingdocs.com website. Not hard to do. They are also available from cyclemax.com for cheap.
      Other than that, take care of that bike and do routine maintenance and it should run a few more decades. I plan on easily riding mine another 30 years minimum.

    What are these Monsters like for putting on their Center Stand. They look kind of huge and
    really heavy. Do you have to do several months in the gym, or have upper body strength in
    case of a flat tire, or just to dip the oil.

    • @andrewcriswell6865
      @andrewcriswell6865  Рік тому

      It's actually not hard at all. The rest grab bars are really in a good spot to make it easy (gives you leverage). I have an easier time putting this 900 lb monster on the center stand than I do my 500 lb Yamaha virago.
      Having the suspension in good shape to where it's at the proper ride height is also a huge help.
      It takes a little bit of practice. But with the proper technique, your not only using your arms to put it on the center stand, but all your body weight as well (you stand on the center stand while rocking the bike rewards and pulling up on the rear grab bar).

    I bought GL1500 getting it ready to ride, today I removed 3 saddlebag running light bar bulbs! An would like to ask you question about my lighting, as you talked about lighting? There is 2-bulb light bar mounted towards rear on top of luggage box rear air spoiler. Each of 3 has its on electronic board. When bike started, lights come on, center bulb & right bulb in bar are lite steady. But left bulb in bar blinks, like a blinker. An when I place headlight on high beam it blinks too. Is this an add-on accessory an are blinking lite in rear legal? I'll check Washington State tomorrow. Bike has a trailer hitch setup wondered if part of that blinking light package?

    • @andrewcriswell6865
      @andrewcriswell6865  3 роки тому +1

      Sounds like it has a modulator system to make it blink for attention. It's very common to find it on the front of motorcycles for high beams. Most states modulators are legal on headlights. On the red brake lights it varies more by state.
      With the headlights. It's only supposed to modulate when it's bright outside. Once it starts to get dark, a photocell sensor detects when it gets dark enough so to disable the modulating headlight to keep it within regulations.

    I'm very interested in the passenger floorboards. I've been thinking of installing a set to mine, but I can't find anyone who will say whether the adjustment works with them installed. Yours in the video are in the lowered position, and you eventually say that the lever operates the adjustment, but I really was hoping you'd have pulled the lever and let us see them work. Also, when you flipped the one down it looked kinda loose, was that just the angle, or are they? Also, what windshield is that? (I know, I have a billion questions!!!) Thanks!!!

    • @andrewcriswell6865
      @andrewcriswell6865  3 роки тому

      We'll, I have some answers ☺ the windshield is from Long Ride Shields. It's the shortest they make for the 1500. 14" tall in the lowest position. And we don't have any wind buffeting. You'll probably have to contact them to get a price. The only way to find it on their site is to put "gl1500" in the search bar.
      I'll adjust the floorboards in the next vid. I normally don't move them because my wife has long legs and doesn't need them adjusted. I only raise them for my niece and sister. My wife also doesn't use the "highway pegs" built into the floorboards because they raise her legs too high (her legs are as long as mine). What makes them look loose is the highway peg part. It's only held down with gravity. But the way they are made they don't flop. The floorboards are very solid. My wife stands on them when we go over a bump when I stand on the pegs. They don't budge. They also don't fall down on their own (unless I drop the bike 😕). I highly recommend them due to vibration reduction with those rubber inserts. Especially for any passengers under 5'5".
      I'll hopefully have another video up soon. I've changed a few parts out (some new lights and such).

    With the miles you said was 80,000 something, just curious mechanically what have you had to do or preventative maintenance. Have you had to rebounce the carbs? Change the wheel bearings? Change the timing belt? Fuel pump alternator curious because I used to have a 98 and I sold it in 2012 I do miss it and I'm thinking about getting another one but they all have higher mileage now so I'm wondering what I'll need to do. Thanks

    • @andrewcriswell6865
      @andrewcriswell6865  3 роки тому +3

      Timing belt changed at 55k miles. Timing belts should be changed every 10 years or 100k miles. Whichever comes first. And since I didn't know if they had been changed, I went ahead and changed them. I've also had the coolant flushed once since I've had the bike. I've also changed the sub and cruise air filters once. I did have the fuel filter changed 3 years ago because I felt like it. Not because it needed it. But I've never had fuel issues with this bike. I keep it full and put in ethanol free gas as much as possible (it's readily available in my area). And during my last tuneup I had a bad vacuum line I replaced,.
      I installed the aux shifter pivot the first summer with the bike. Best investment ever!
      The front springs sagged out from the weight a few years ago. I replaced them with progressive springs. It corners better than it should now. And it won't fall over on level ground.
      I've not had a reason to synch the carbs yet. As I'm still getting really good fuel economy (over 40 mpg 2 up). I've not had any of the bearings replaced yet. They are checked yearly and always check out fine. I'll need the air shock boot replaced soon. But that's all I see for the near future.
      The bike had a crap u fire on it when I got it. When it died I went back to a stock. Compufire is not what it used to be. The shop that does the service when I can't said they have so many comebacks on compufire installs that they won't install them anymore. And the stock one was used and has lasted as far as the compufire did for me. I won't put another compufire in this bike. It has no longevity.
      That's most of the routine maintenance or preventive maintenance I've done besides a little grease/oil in the controls and clean a few switches. Other than that it's just oil changes, refueling and riding.

      @@andrewcriswell6865 Thank you for your time and you certainly have the best color 1500 I am looking at only 99 and 2000 or 2014 in the same color blue. I do like the white instrument cluster on the 98, 99s so if I get a 2000 I would change it.
      After I sold my 98 I bought a new goldwing in 2012 till 2015 I sold it. My wife did not like it nearly as much as the 1500 and she's the one that wants to ride mostly. I'm a lot older now and I just don't know if I have the drive to keep up with a bike that old. I watched carburetor removal videos and it is loaded with rubber hoses like early 80s cars. They're all going to go dry. So how someone previously took care of it will be a big decision. I have a newer Kawasaki Voyager right now but I'm not really a V-Twin kind of guy even though it is a very high quality bike. I want to go back to getting a goldwing, you get spoiled with reverse and automatic suspension.
      Same as you I spray silicone or electric clean out lube in my switches every fall and coat everything plastic or rubber with silicone before I polish the bike and I only store it with non-ethanol fuel in the system for the winter. I live in Maryland. When I had the 1500 since it was carbureted I had electric switch in the left compartment that turned off the fuel pump I would let the carburetors drain before storing.
      I love the 1500 it's the end of an era. But do I have the drive to keep up with it? That same color is available on the 2014 so if I bail out of getting a 1500 I'll have get the 2014 1800, I like the fuel injection and anti-lock brakes which my current bike also has also but that's it I like the setup on the 1500 better.
      All right good talking to you thanks again. I'll keep a watch out for your videos.

      I just found a cassette deck adapter (basically it's a Bluetooth cassette) that I used for a long time (and still use on occasion) on Amazon.
      Normally when I find something like the Bluetooth dongle on Amazon, in 6 months they are out of production or a newer model has been released so the links I have don't work anymore.
      Technology changes too fast anymore.

    I have the same year bike. How did you put an auxiliary in to the stereo?

    • @andrewcriswell6865
      @andrewcriswell6865  2 роки тому +1

      I've done it through a fm modulator. The switch inside the left cubbie box is a on/off switch for the fm modulator. This fm modulator has the stereo antenna cable go into it, and then there's a cable that goes from the fm modulator into the antenna connection spot on the stereo.
      So it basically installs inline in the antenna connection.

    What changes took place between 1995 in 2000?

    • @WolfHeathen
      @WolfHeathen Місяць тому +1

      1995 was the 20th anniversary. Every '95 model got commemorative emblems, cosmetic changes, a thinner and narrower seat and suspension improvements which reduced ground clearance, contributing to an even lower seat height (offsetting the weight gain).
      The 1996 Aspencade received an upmarket audio system that had been exclusive to the GL1500SE.
      The GL1500C Valkyrie came out in 1997. It was the first "naked" GL since the 1984. It was designated as "F6C (Flat Six Custom)" in markets outside of the US. It came in three different models: Standard, Tourer and Interstate.
      The 1997 GL1500 received engine, transmission and final drive improvements first introduced on the GL1500C.
      The 1998 Gold Wing got a styling makeover extended to the engine with redesigned valve covers.
      In 1999, Honda commemorated 50 years in America by adding 50th Anniversary emblems to all 1999 Gold Wings; the GL1500A '99 price increased.

    How much would you say it's worth with all the accessories and in current condition?

    • @andrewcriswell6865
      @andrewcriswell6865  3 роки тому

      Accessories only add value to a buyer that would want to add them on themselves. So I'd say it's only worth maybe a couple hundred more than what book value says.
      When the new 1800's came out, the value of the 1500's plummeted. I could probably get more money from my old gl1000 once i get it running than I could this 1500.

    Who did all your work ? It’s difficult to find anyone to work on them for a reasonable price. Mine is a 1994 aspencade. How many miles is considered the break in period? Because mine only has 43 ,000 miles on it.

    • @andrewcriswell6865
      @andrewcriswell6865  2 роки тому

      Mine is about to hit 100,000 (finally). So it'll have about 500,000 to go before it's worn out.
      Motorcycles and trikes of Atlanta services the things on the bike I don't have the equipment for. I do all my own maintenance and performed a lot of the upgrades myself.
      The other shop that did most of the work for the previous owner is no longer in existence.
      And the break in milage thing is a joke among Goldwing riders (it's sarcasm). Mainly because these bikes can run for multiple hundreds of thousands of miles (seen several that run great with over 300,000 on the odometer and it's still the original drivetrain). It's like they never wear out if you maintain it properly.

      @@andrewcriswell6865 I’m trying to learn how to do my own work because here in Orlando Florida I can’t find anyone to work on it for a reasonable price. I got quoted 2 grand for a tuneup. Smh ridiculous… I’m scared to start taking stuff apart and not being able to put it back together. I can change the oil on it which I’ve done myself that’s pretty simple but that’s about it. It’s riding rough , mg saddle bag light is out needs replaced I have the new one but haven’t installed. It just needs maintenance overall. Need a reasonable mechanic that won’t break the bank to maintain it.

    • @andrewcriswell6865
      @andrewcriswell6865  2 роки тому

      Half the problem is that people don't want to work on older motorcycles. Even though these things are in great shape and run well, the newest of them is 22 years old (2000 model). So people that are willing to work on them charge for it because people are willing to pay for it. But we all must come to realize, the last of the American made Goldwings is now 12 years old (2010 was the last year Goldwings we're built in Ohio).
      But the tune-up isn't that hard. Several guys on UA-cam cover it. When I did it I was surprised how easy it was. I've become pretty fast at pulling/installing the air filter anymore. Just gotta be gentle with the plastics because of the age. They are getting a bit brittle. I can't recall how often the spark plugs are to be changed. But it's fairly often. Also, if your bike hasn't had the timing belt replaced, you should get that done ASAP due to the age. Belts rot when they get older and can snap. My rule on the timing belt is 10 years or 100,000 miles. Whichever comes first. I had the shop do my timing belt (I didn't have the time to deal with it myself).
      But the best thing you can do if you want to do anything to that bike yourself, is go get the factory service manual. You can find them on eBay for not a lot of money. Just make sure you get it for your specific year model.

    What's the best way to transport one of these?

    • @andrewcriswell6865
      @andrewcriswell6865  3 роки тому

      I normally just ride it. I have several keys for it out there with good friends so that if I'm injured they will come and pick it up. I've never needed to tow it.
      The only time this bike has been towed to my knowledge was very long range (12+ hours of road time) when some of us couldn't log that much saddle time (health issues). I decided to let mine join the others on the flatbed trailer and ride in the truck with everybody else. The trailer having a blowout was interesting. None of the bikes got a scratch. But it took me a bit to beat out that trailer fender to get the spare installed.
      Use straps on the forks as primary to hold it forwards in the wheel chock. Then use smaller straps on the engine and saddlebags guards as stabilizers (don't use these to do primary holding because they can break at the frame if they take the full weight of the bike if you hit a bump and the trailer bounces in the air) to the trailer. Use those smaller "bar saver" straps at each point you attach to. You can also use straps on the handlebars. Just mind how much pressure you put on them. You don't want to bend them. The trailer must have a 9 ft long deck on it. These things are about 8 ft 6 inches long. So you need a long enough trailer to move it safely.
      Remember, these things are 900 lbs! That's a lot of weight bouncing around on a trailer.

      The reason we like chrome is that it brings more attention to the motorcycle while riding down the road. Most Americans in cars do not pay attention. So for us on motorcycles, we use the chrome to try to grab their attention so they don't run into us with their cars.
