Thank you for following Jorge! I have two more projects coming soon!
very nice, good job
Thank you very much!
These are pretty neat because you get the feel for a vintage Stingray without the worry of damaging it.
Thanks for watching!
I own an Original 1963 Sting Ray and just for the fun of it I bought a 2020 Classic Sting Ray ( the 125 Anniversary model in Blue ). Yes it is not a USA Chicago or built as well, BUT they are not "China Trash bikes" either! Any company that gives a lifetime guarantee on there product says a lost about the product! I was shocked to see how nice they are. For just a grab and go bike, They are pretty cool! The seats are pretty hard though. And at only a couple hundred dollars ( Compared to my original 63' that cost thousands of dollars to get perfect, The Walmart starts to weighs in pretty strong! ) Yes its made in China, but it is still a Schwinn! If anyone is thinking about getting one, I think you'll be surprisingly happy.
They are pretty sweet bikes old and new!
Awesome restoration/builds! And great job showing the process (and with excellent film production quality, no less!) 🤟🏻
Thank you Mark!
Awesome job!
Thanks Diego!
old men over stingrays...I am 51 and still look at them like I am 12, ogling, wishing and pointing excitedly to anyone who will pay attention.
Agreed!
Amazing!!!
Thank you! Cheers!
so cool, love the yellow bike!
Thanks Cristine!
Will your papa let you ride it
For a brief period in the late 1970s, Tesco in the UK sold a cheaper version of the Schwinn Stingray called the Intercity. Like the Schwinn, it had two 20" wheels which made it so much more stable than the Raleigh Chopper with its front 16" wheel. Also, the Chopper weighed as much as a small planet.
I bought my Intercity off a neighbour who had moved onto a different bike. He virtually threw it away because he thought it needed a new front wheel when it only needed the bearing cones tightening - I gave him a fiver only, which wasn't much for a bike even back then.
It was THE best wheelie bike ever but looking back at the central frame mounted 3-speed gear shifter, and that amazing banana seat... well, I wish I still had it just to show my kids what bikes were all about before they all became a bit samey.
I particularly love the new green bike in this video - I'd love to do a restomod on my old Intercity with some modern components.
Sounds like a great bike. I've seen a couple of Raleigh choppers role through the shop over the years and they were heavyyyy!! If you come across another Intercity, I'd be happy to collaborate on a build up with you!
@@CoolBikeProjects I did find one a few years ago on the internet - an advert for an auction house which, bizarrely, was located in my home town. Unfortunately, the auction was some months before and the auction house never responded to my requests for info about the buyer (I was prepared to make them an offer).
Quite honestly, I think the Schwinn is a better frame and fork anyway. The Intercity had no bearing in the head tube - only a nylon bush which moved back and forth, and I suspect the frame would be heavier than the Schwinn. In its favour, it did have an English threaded BB and the banana seat was the very best type I've ever seen (it was very flat and very comfy despite its minimal padding).
I saw a forum once where a guy had taken a 20" wheeled fat bike and turned it into a chopper-style bike for his daughter, although he conceded it was heavy. Although Raleigh did make a reissued Chopper with an alloy frame, I still suspect a Schwinn would make the best basis for a restomod. That 16" front wheel puts me right off the Chopper.
Great job Mr,outstanding ,we would like yo será step by step rebuild of a schiwn, chopper, thanks ,already suscribe, thanks, continúe ,from panamá Joe& bros.say hello.
Could you provide a build list of your parts? I think this is a great idea.
Sepeda yang sangat bagus sekali schwinn
Man don't speed up the geeking out next time. I like those talks
Thanks man! will do.
Maybe a conversion project on an old hardtail into a single speed bike?
Excellent idea!
I still have mine only missing the front rim, gooseneck, bars and the seat. I converted it to BMX and sprayed it navy blue metallic in the early 80s not sure what happened to the parts. I know the chain guard is in my parents basement with the orig paint (red metallic) and lettering.
Any idea how to stop the stem flex with these newer stingrays?
Amazing restoration! Where did get the vinyl sticker? Need some for my restoration.
I believe we got these ones from Velo Cal. You can also find them on Etsy or eBay.
I would suggest a cruiser turned into a Bobber. I have one and it gathers loots of positive comments from people
Great suggestion! I'm looking for another cruiser project in the next month or two.
@@CoolBikeProjects ...and I am waiting for the project video
Can you provide a parts list with specs for this build?
Sure thing ,I’m out of town for a few days but I can put up a list next week on the description.
@@CoolBikeProjects Super cool!! Thanks
@@CoolBikeProjects I would like to see a list too. Great build & video!
I seen sturmey has a single drive coaster brake rear hub on their site. The s1c. Does that fit the stingray also?
I’ll have to check on that. The drum brake on this was just a little tight so we spread triangle out a couple millimeters to get it to go in.
Yea I just ordered one of the new ones from Walmart and I’m gonna tear into it for fun. Gonna cerakote the frame and parts and make a new school chopper.
Good morning sir,am so very interested to this kind of plybike, how could i buy this unit, pls pls help me how to get one for may self, thank you so much🙏🙏
Hi Roy different Walmarts will have them on sale throughout the year you can also find them on ebay or amazon.com.
How would you clean the original yellow paint on old Schwinn
Assuming it it’s just dirty and maybe a little bit faded. You can use DTaP or several other brands of polish cleaner. But we’re just the basic backwash simple Green in water works great!
Are the original schwinn rims that got swapped for sale?
Sorry they’ve already been taken

Love your dedication in restoring the sting ray, but I'm pretty sure they came with rear "slicks".....IMO they taint stingrays without slicks, and I'm sure most might agree. Nice job though. Mine was emerald green as a kid, and I could have killed my folks for getting me a sleazy Sears 10 speed for Christmas and giving my bike to some kid at church....Taint been right since....lol
Thanks Brodus, yes its been a learning curve on keeping things authentic vs upgrades.
Most of the early 'original' base model Sting Rays I remember seeing as a kid had knobby rear tires as original equipment. Seems to me the 'slick' rear tire came along later? I remember the first 'Sting Ray' style bicycle in our neighborhood with a 'slick' rear tire was actually a Huffy. We all thought that was pretty cool.
@@thomasmoje5926 The 1963 and 1964 Sting Rays came w/o a Slick tire. It wasn't till I believe about 1965 that they introduced the Slick.
@@Navigatorbythestars Yeah the early ones I saw around my neighborhood all had the knobby rear tire. Most of them were the 'base model' without fenders and blackwall tires. The really cool kids (or those whose parents had more money) had the 'deluxe' version with chrome fenders and white-lettered tires.
