The way Turner cable networks (TNT, Cartoon Network, Boomerang) reran the cartoon endlessly throughout the 90s, I was always under the impression that the toyline and franchise were bigger in the 80s than they actually were.
@@MichaelMercy Yeah man. One Christmas it was all kinds of Centurions. Aunts, uncles and grand parents chipped in too. Like an idiot, I threw out all my toys when I went into high school. One of my biggest regrets. I should've at least had the brains to donate them away to some less-fortunate kids. It was just a very impulsive decision.
I love how you took us all to memory lane. The well blendings of wrestling characters went well though they got nothing in comment .What they all have in comment is 1986.
I don't comment on this channel very often. But I just want to say i really love your editing. The way you incorporate snippets of cartoons with your reviews and showcases of the toys. It's really nice. Gives your channel a nice feeling. I may not have been born in the 80s. But 80s cartoons are something I've always absolutely loved. So this channel feels right at home to me. Keep up the great work Michael :)
In 1986-87 i had Max Ray and Jake Rockwell but just inital figures with weapon packs , money was tight and the apt was smaller , , figures were on the large and bulky side , , Mom moved us out of state and made me leave a lot of my heavier belongings , missed them plus my Castle GreySkull and over half of my He-Man figures , most of my early run StarWars stuff as well 🤔😭😭😭
This is one of those toy lines that I passed on back in the day due to the price and size of the figures but regretted it as an adult. Inhumanoids too. Actually that would make a great crossover. Thanks for the video Michael!
That was awesome! Thanks for doing this. I had Max with tidal blast and a strafer. two of my neighborhood friends had Ace and Jake as well as Doc Terror and Hacker. They had some adventures at our neighborhood creek for sure.
I really wanted these figures, the idea seemed like something I would be interested in those days. It just got pushed to the back of my priorities by LEGO and GI Joe. Plus I never got any for Christmas or my birthday!
Wow, I've heard about this line, but I never really knew how extensive it was especially for its short lifespan!... Thanks for the amazing video Michael. Those 80's toys (and almost everything really) were truly extravagant with their offerings and ingenuity...
This is a real centurions documentary! Loved the depth and details you brought in! Fantastic! I loved this shown when I was a kid but never got to see the toys here in Brazil. I guess they were more expensive than the motu or gijoe... A pity!
One of your best videos to date Michael Mercy. Really well done. I had a number of the items form this line. I think your analysis on why they didn't do better back then as well as the roadblocks to a modern remake is spot on.
First time watcher here and I really dig how you show the toys off. It's how a kid would imagine playing with it. I'll have to check some other videos.
I had the Swingshot as a kid. I must have gotten it as a gift for my 3rd birthday or something. I had no idea what this was as Centurions was long over by the time I started playing with it. I remember that I incorporated it with many of my action figures back then and remember keeping the pieces in the box. I cannot believe it was so rare and I wish I still had it. I would've made sure it got into the hands of a collector who wanted it.
I loved watching centurions! I never had the toys because they were expensive and too much accessories. I loved the video and it was so in depth . You got a great collections with boxes too. I am looking forward to the next part to this. I remember the other two characters . When they came on screen I got excited because it was new weapons we got to see. Keep up the great work

Just goes to show how a great idea can be executed to near perfection, yet still fail. This proves how cut-throat, and saturated, the 80s was for amazing action figure/toy lines. As pointed out in the video by MM, you had to make a choice as to what to collect since most times you were at the mercy of prices (and willing parents).
My hat's off to you for bringing Ace, Jake, Max, Crystal, Rex, John, Lucy, Shadow, and even Doc and Hacker into the spotlight, Michael. All the years watching this every afternoon and/or evening on Cartoon Network have been a _magical_ time for yours truly. In fact, I have the entire run on DVD (miniseries and all).
Excellent video! I was 3 in 86.. my childhood toys were RGB and TMNT. I hadn’t even heard or centurions until a few years ago! I’m sure I would have loved them with all the accessories that went with them! Love your videos Michael great stuff!😁
I remember seeing them in a store called "Warehouse of Toys". It was across from the restaurant we frequented called Catfish Cabin. I remember the plan my cousin and I would always have, ask our parents to go to Catfish Cabin on a Saturday evening, and talk them into letting us walk across the parking lot to Warehouse of Toys.
Air Wolf Theme for Hornet...Perfect. Thank You Michael, for such a Special video. As much as I loved Transformers back then, Centurion, MASK, and Jayce and The Wheeled Warriors were the True Gems of the 80s. I only had Ace with an incomplete Sky Bolt unit back then, but it was enough for a poor 10 year old to be a Centurion, "Power Extreme..." Now I have all the sets minus Sea Bat and Swing Shot. Love your work, Thank you...
Thanks for doing this video. Centurions is one of my favorite cartoons & i was lucky enough to buy most of the toys when they first came out. Looking forward to part 2. All the best from the U.K.
Bravo. Amazing and appreciated. Lots of love and care went into this gem and deservedly so. Heck of a line. Aged nicely for me. Looks great on shelf and feels great in the hands. Your personal collection is fantastic as well. Thank you
Read the comic but never owned the toys, Michael!!! This is a gem of a cartoon should have had continued but the damage was done, due to finances!!! Great video, dude!!!!
wait, Sunrise? as in the *Gundam* Sunrise?? Wow, suddenly the realism and detail on the Weapon Systems makes a lot of sense. Amazing guide Mike, I hope these guys get a revival, because it's long overdue.
@@MichaelMercy you're welcome...oh and as for that desktop toy "system" (if you can call it that)'s name...how about "Pointdexter"? not the most powerful of sets, but you never know when you'll need to tape something
Thank you for doing this 😊 the Centurions was especially close to my heart cuz I and my friends grew up in the early 90s. ❤ Jake was and still is my favorite ❤😊
What a great and very thorough video. I decided to get into the Raman Toys reimagining of the centurions and was fuzzy in the memory of all of the different toy options. This has answered all my questions 💪🏾
I had the base Max Ray. He looked so good. It was a big mistake not making all the heroes at least as vibrant. (also I don't think I ever knew you could launch weapons by rotating the front attachment).
Thanks for all the great reviews! I was on the fence about trying to collect these, but this video convinced me to finally pull the trigger. I just managed to score a great deal on an Ace McCloud and Sky bolt, both in ridiculously pristine condition. Can't wait for them to arrive so I can finally experience these blasts from the past in hand!
I grew up in the 90e but really loved many 80s cartoons that I watched on reruns. But somehow Centurions never really clicked with me. I felt the animation wasn't really up to par with the likes of GI Joe, Transformers, Thundercats, MASK, and Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors (which I was named after), and just looked a a bit less attractive. None of the others were perfect by any means but I did feel like they were a bit more visually appealing then Centurions. The soundtrack is great tho, very epic. And I would have loved these toys when I was a kid. They look really cool and well thought out. And quite a bit ahead of their time.
My memories of this toy line have become very distorted over time. I always remembered the figures as 10" to 12" tall, not 7" Probably because I came over to the line from Star Wars and GI Joe and the Centurions always looked so big by comparison.
I grew up in Vietnam in the 80s, so obviously we didn't get access to all or any of the great shows back then. One of my uncles who had emigrated to the US lovingly sent me a VHS with a bunch of shows including Transformers. But on it were two episodes of the Centurions. And I was entranced by man and machine! It was my favourite show and I couldn't stop watching it over and over. Once we moved overseas I never understood why no one has heard or remembered this show. It still surprises me they've never tried to tap back into this IP ever again. It's such a cool concept and would be amazing to see as a live action movie.
Brilliant video, when these came out I had just hit teenage so was coming away from toys( although I did still grab the odd transformer), but I remember a friends younger brother having these and being quite impressed with them
I still have the full set of UK comics. The last issue has the Centurions telling the reader they were going to take a break but they'd be back soon. 40 years later, still waiting.
Just wanted to say thank you for this video and excellent work! I love seeing our vintage toys out in real settings. I've always loved this show. I even named my husky Shadow after the one on this show. Great work!!
What is always so strange about the short runs of 80s toys to me today is I thought they were around longer, and later into the 80s. I was only 4 in 86 but I remembered Centurians as being so much bigger to me.
Great, excellent and awesome video Michael!!!!!!!! I love every single second of it!!!! I just started my Centurions collection about close to 7 months and I am half way there. If you do sell, please let me know. Once again Love the video and very informative!
I don't know how video uploads and edits work here, but you timed that first commercial break with the Centurions bumpers perfectly. Way better than a number of larger channels I watch. Edit: you timed them all remarkably well.
I miss those commercial break bumpers from old cartoons so it's fun to be able to do something similar here. Sometimes UA-cam is off by a few seconds but they generally line up pretty well to where they're supposed to be.
Great collection and Review. You used the theme of the game Crusader No Remorse when talking about Rockwell, I love that game, one of the best of it's time.
@@MichaelMercy yes, I had that one too, included some new weapons like the one that freezed the enemies and than you could break them. The opening with The Silencer coming out of the escape pod and killing everyone was amazing.
Centurions wasn't that big in UK, but Michael I'm highly appreciated the effort all the effort you put into this video, I am astounded really, your on another level on UA-cam, I'm in oar on what you do, Nerdmaste...oh my god😂😊
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. I'm fortunate to have hunted them all down before vintage toy prices went insane. Remember when you could get old toys at a garage sale for a few dollars? I never got into it for profit, I started collecting because the characters meant something special to me. Take care & God bless. 🙏
So cool. The only toy i wanted more than G1 Optimus Prime was the motorbike system for the yellow centurion. I only had the base green guy. Still incredible toys.
These figures had such a great gimmick that could've kept evolving had it lasted. In addition to what you said, I think another contributing factor to their demise were the underwhelming villains. Adversely, The Inhumanoids had amazing villains but the heroes never seemed like a hit with kids. Imagine if they had combined the two lines into one story. I think they would've been much more competitive in the market; just a theory I had. Great review as always, sir!
The best Centurions vid I've found on the Tubes! For me, this was one of the best toy lines and cartoons of my childhood years. I now only own my favourite character and weapon system - Jake Rockwell with Wild Weasel. This would definitely work (in the right hands) nowadays, I can even see the potential for a decent film... alas, not sure it will ever happen. Again, great video mate. 👌👍
Thanks. I got got them many years ago and it took several years (and much less money than they go for today). Glad I decided to hunt them all down back then because I wouldn't be able to afford all of it today.
I'm not entirely sure why I loved this so much as a kid...I never saw the toys outside of catalogues and only had a few VHS episodes and story books to go on...maybe that was it, the mystery of what other gadgets and gimmicks were just out of my reach
I have max and play the shit out of it.sad i cant afford other weapon part system due parents income paying loans n bils.but im very grateful n proud to have it loving it n care. Thanks for showing all their other weapon systems im curious how they actualy look like bless you and thanks.
I had Max and Depth Charger when I was a kid. Normally, I would have been drawn to either the air or ground parts of the triangle, but that green of Max's suit, the orange of his gear and that sweet canopy were just too awesome. Plus, I really like the more mech look with the pontoon legs. My family wasn't rich. I mostly had Go Bots instead of transformers. Honestly, I think the only reason I got Max was he looked like my dad with darker hair. I never made the Tom Selleck connection before. Even now, I think Max looks more like my dad back in the 80s than Magnum P.I.
I had Max Ray and Ace McCloud. No other vehicles although I wanted Sky Bolt but nope, didn't end up getting it. Traumatizers, if I had known that they were rare, I would have bought one. I saw a few of them when I was living in Singapore at that time at my local Toys R'Us.
The way Turner cable networks (TNT, Cartoon Network, Boomerang) reran the cartoon endlessly throughout the 90s, I was always under the impression that the toyline and franchise were bigger in the 80s than they actually were.
I loved my Centurions toys as a kid. Large posable figures and pretty neat and large weapons systems.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
@@MichaelMercy you're welcome...oh and as for that desktop toy "system" (if you can call it that)'s name...how about "Pointdexter"? not the most powerful of sets, but you never know when you'll need to tape something
I was in England when this show was on television. This brought back memories! I never seen the toys until later.
I loved centurions. They were on clearance at a discount store when I was a kid so I got them on the cheap.
Thank you for doing this 😊 the Centurions was especially close to my heart cuz I and my friends grew up in the early 90s. ❤ Jake was and still is my favorite ❤😊
Happy that you enjoyed it. Have a wonderful weekend.
What a great and very thorough video. I decided to get into the Raman Toys reimagining of the centurions and was fuzzy in the memory of all of the different toy options. This has answered all my questions 💪🏾
Thank you. Have a lovely day. 👍
I had the base Max Ray. He looked so good. It was a big mistake not making all the heroes at least as vibrant. (also I don't think I ever knew you could launch weapons by rotating the front attachment).
These were fantastic, I never had one but I really wanted an Ace McCloud.
Just seeing them in a toy shop was enough.
What a great deep dive. Well done
Thanks! Have a great weekend.
I had the 3 heroes but thats it. Imnow on the lookout for all of these. I think they are so damn cool! Your lucky to have them all. Nice collection.
Those shows are definitely just there to teach us how to play with their toys. Love it.
I'm about to go out and activate the pontoon thrusters on the lake today!
Had the yellowish one, his cannon was awesome and stolen by my decepticons many times
Lucky! Well, except for the part about the Decepticon kidnappings. 😁
@@MichaelMercy they just used his cannon to shoot autobots off the cliff/bed
My memories of this toy line have become very distorted over time. I always remembered the figures as 10" to 12" tall, not 7" Probably because I came over to the line from Star Wars and GI Joe and the Centurions always looked so big by comparison.
Wonderful work as always, Mike!
Thank you, good brother. Have a great weekend.
Brilliant video, when these came out I had just hit teenage so was coming away from toys( although I did still grab the odd transformer), but I remember a friends younger brother having these and being quite impressed with them
Thank you. 😁
Thanks, greatly appreciated! That's amazing that you have husky named Shadow! 😊 Now he just needs an exo-harness with missiles!
What is always so strange about the short runs of 80s toys to me today is I thought they were around longer, and later into the 80s. I was only 4 in 86 but I remembered Centurians as being so much bigger to me.
The special effects in this video earned the sub.
Great, excellent and awesome video Michael!!!!!!!! I love every single second of it!!!! I just started my Centurions collection about close to 7 months and I am half way there. If you do sell, please let me know. Once again Love the video and very informative!
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. Cheers!
Thanks. Loved those games. Did you know about the follow-up, No Regret?
@@MichaelMercy yes, I had that one too, included some new weapons like the one that freezed the enemies and than you could break them. The opening with The Silencer coming out of the escape pod and killing everyone was amazing.
Xtremly Xcellent Mr. Mercy! Well Done once again.👍👍
Looking forward to seeing you talk about the Centurions toys that did not get released.
very very nice, perfect! Love those very complete reviews you do sometime.
Centurions wasn't that big in UK, but Michael I'm highly appreciated the effort all the effort you put into this video, I am astounded really, your on another level on UA-cam, I'm in oar on what you do, Nerdmaste...oh my god😂😊
Thanks for checking it out. Glad you enjoyed it.
I remember the cartoon being shown on the Saturday show "Get Fresh". It was the main reason for watching it.
Great collection you have there.
It's a shame that Ace McCloud's other weapon system, Stratostrike & Jake Rockwell's, Awesome Auger didn't get toy releases. Awesome Video!
Wow this video is even more epic than the Centurions themselves! Loved every minute of it and holy what a Centurions collection you have 🤩
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. I'm fortunate to have hunted them all down before vintage toy prices went insane. Remember when you could get old toys at a garage sale for a few dollars? I never got into it for profit, I started collecting because the characters meant something special to me. Take care & God bless. 🙏
This video is great. Lots of fun. 🎉
Thanks Rodney, glad you enjoyed it. Lots of fun to make too!
Still got mine and loved that show. Sad it didnt last longer.
loved this video !!! and the music on the background is amazing !!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you.
Thank you! I adored my Ace McCloud Skynight. Too bad it didn’t last.
I would love to see a video when you list best cartoon stories, the on ones with best stories.
Thanks for all videos you put up 👍🏻👍🏻
These toys were so awesome and fun to play with.
Awesome! I can still remember watching the cartoons and I only had Hacker as a toy. One of the boys, how useful is Max out of water?
He wasn't exactly a fish out of water in the air. He could handle Sky Knight and Hornet pretty well.
So cool.
The only toy i wanted more than G1 Optimus Prime was the motorbike system for the yellow centurion.
I only had the base green guy.
Still incredible toys.
The bike was Wild Weasel for Jake Rockwell. The green aquatic expert was Max Ray.
I had Ace and orbital interceptor, as well as the doom drone I got from Sear Surplus
Excellent video Michael.
Thank you. Happy that you enjoyed it.
This was a great IP. It should be brought back. Just as M.A.S.K. Should be as well
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
@@MichaelMercy yeah did you make the next part you mentioned ? If not patiently waiting
It just went up.
@@MichaelMercy 👍🏻👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
It was great thank you.
Awesome toys action figures collection 😊
None of my friends and I had all of these toys, but we all had at least one of the main characters.
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it!
How does one even start to collect those other than mint in box? 😂 Fantastic video as usual.
Thanks. I got got them many years ago and it took several years (and much less money than they go for today). Glad I decided to hunt them all down back then because I wouldn't be able to afford all of it today.
Great video! I was lucky to have the figures growing up. In the UK we had a centurions giant card game too :)
Yhank you. 🙏
Excellent video Michael. You must have put a lot of work into this ?
Thanks Mark. Yes, several months. The biggest history I've done so far.
You did some great editing with this vid. I was a big fan of the centurions and wish they would bring them back somehow.
Thanks! 🙏
I'm not entirely sure why I loved this so much as a kid...I never saw the toys outside of catalogues and only had a few VHS episodes and story books to go on...maybe that was it, the mystery of what other gadgets and gimmicks were just out of my reach
I have a friend who still yells out "XTREME!" all the time when he's Xcited. Must be a good show.
Who doesn't? 🤔
Wow. I have some of these pieces from my childhood, and until now, I didn’t know what they went to.
I loved this show and toys.
Damn I used to love this show when I was a kid. Ace was always my favorite.
