This is what make Jeff a great teacher. This is stuff I know, this is stuff I do and in spite of that this is still educational and inviting and engaging.
What a quality masterclass! It's cool that you give examples of songs where this 'triple triad trick' occurs. I always wondered about 'Freeway Jam' as well. And 'Heartbreaker' too. Thanks Jeff!
Since the backing riff does not include a 3rd it is neither minor or major. Change the 1 chord triad to minor and you get a Dorian vamp which is also very cool over the track
Crazy timing 🤔 I just wrote a melody the other day that I couldn’t get out out of my head. When I finally figured out the obvious chord progression to lay over it…yup it was 1…b7…4. Now I know why it sounds so damn good.
Good stuff! So much useful ideas for pop/blues/rock. Modes used to scare me, until I realized that there is “a note” that is the reason for the sound of the intervals in each mode. Major modes=mixo has the flat 7th. Lydian=raised 4th. In minor modes, Dorian is just natural minor scale with natural 6th. Phrygian=flat 2nd.
Want another cool take on monkeying around with A shapes check out the David Grissom Master class. He has a different take on things that is awesome and compliments this lesson well
Excellent lesson Mr. Jeff. I always struggle with developing my chord progressions. So you used the G major chord because it’s the characteristic note in the mixolydian scale? b7
Just checked them again and they are working for me, so I’m not really sure what is going on. Maybe try a different browser? Thanks for letting me know!!

Great lesson and demonstration!! The intro and solo section in "Let It Rain" by Eric Clapton incorporates some of these triad ideas also.
Great suggestion!
