This triads and inversion thing seems like basic stuff maybe, if just looking at it as simple triad and inversions, but in the end this is so useful on so many levels for playing and creating music on guitar. Knowing and mastering this thing helps on so many levels: when soloing, rythm playing, arranging, harmonzing and expending chords. It's also really useful for "learning the fretboard" since these repeats on many places on the guitar neck. Thanks for sharing your tricks! :)
Beautiful. Its the little nuances that makes all the difference in delivery. Jeff is a master at understanding nuance and presentation. Next thing you know..... "Art". Great lesson.
Such a masterful use of colours and improvisation, It all made the song come to life, it was hiding in that generic line that's on the record. So much fun to play Jeff has done a wonderful job for guitarists, every line is tasty. I remember why I bought Jeff's Truefire stuff, he is still the smoothest Cat around Hehe. Great Jeff!
Reminds of the old spaghetti western sounds, or Lyle Lovitt or Chis Isaac. So cool at the very end where Jeff opens up about how he was thinking the same things.
Smashing video. You made a point earlier about the advantages of using the upper register of chords to cut through the band. It took me years to really stumble across that. Looking back, it's so obvious especially when you understand how the guitar interacts EQ wise against the bass and drummer. It's also such a cool sound. It opened a whole new world to me.
This is why I started playing a low G ukulele. Open uke is the 5th position of the 4 highest strings on guitar. Once you get used to the scale length it's easy to transition between the two.
The guitar work on wicked game hits the first time you hear it, getting lost in triads is a great thing to do it opens up many possibilities, nice to see you play your vintage stray.
Jeff, great video. I play a Les Paul special now and a Telecaster, but am thinking of adding a Stratocaster back to the arsenal. Your command of your instrument is such a great example no matter what guitar you are playing but you make the Strat truly sing… Thanks so much.
Great lesson Jeff, sitting here working on it, many thanks. This really is the next area I needed to get into. I will be buying the major / minor triad lessons.
I've been doing this for a while now...what I found help me to learn them is to say the notes out as I play them...I don't mean the musical notes but I mean 'R 3rd 5th...3rd 5th R...etc' as I play the scale so I can see the inversions better... If I decide to have the surgery I need for my tremors I may be hitting you up for some lessons again Jeff... Hope you've been well!!!
@@JeffMcErlain I'm trying man...even with the tremor...it's a bitch but never give up you know? besides it's good therapy for my hands... Hope the dog, the cat , and the son are well along with the wife...Peace
Great video! Thank you! Buying the lesson next week. RIP James Wilsey. One of my favorites. Check out the book recently released about him. Good read on a sad story.
Have really been concentrating my playing the Last coupIe of years on R&B and this type Iesson is much appreciated. Great content and great playing thx Jeff.
Jeff, I think we are about the same age. I remember when this was THE hit song and played constantly........man we're old. lol. Besides that I always find it so fascinating how very simple triads sound amazing and emotional when hugged with a good reverb + using the tremolo arm. Thanks for the vid.
Aaah Jeff, that incredible tone and playing has totally inspired me to jump back into learning my triads properly. Just bought your triads courses and will deep dive over the weekend!
Hey, JM... Thanks as always for great content. One hitch. When I go to the backing track link below it tells me "you can't do that." Can you confirm that's good link. I've always been I've always been able to successfully link to purchase and or free content from this device
@@JeffMcErlain My uncle had a 64 that sounded not that great, but then I played a 62 that blew my mind. Even the bridge was this beautiful even sound, no rasp, no unpleasant highs, just gorgeous sounds in every position.
Did you see the lower E major correction text when I misspoke in the first few seconds of the video? The rest of the video I say E major. I am not playing minor on the E.

Oh cool! Thanks and I did t know about the book. Thanks
thanx for the lesson
You’re welcome!
Great info!. I feel when we start out, moving up the fretboard is taught just using barre chords. But these triad shapes are were the music lives...
Really great lesson and better explanation Jeff!
It's an AHA MOMENT 4 ME!
Thanks so very much!!

Fixed!
As always, a great video!
Just a minor (ahem) point: At 03:03 I think that the minor triad should be root, b3 and 5th
Nothing gets by you....;-)
This is Gold!
🙌🏻🙌🏻
I just started the minor triads course - I can see how the major triads course would be helpful too!
💯
Wicked Games is so pretty. Thanks for the video.
Great lesson. You should do this with other songs
Only thing sexier than that Strat is Jeff’s playing.
🙏🏻
Awesome
Nice guitar, nice guy, nice play, nice day.
Love it! 😂
I love the relicing on Jeff's guitar. Is that journeyman or heavy?
It’s the real deal my man. 😉
Jeff, you continually open doors for my playing.
Thats great to hear!
What pickups to get that wonderful tone? Alnico 5?
They are the original pickups. Not sure actually if the magnets it’s a 1964.
Chris Isaak - Wicked Game
Clicked on the backing track download link and it came back with "You Can't Do That". Pity cause I love playing that song.
Thanks for letting me know. Please try it again, it should be working now.
COOL
Why don't modern strats sound that good? Is it the wood, the pickups, the glue?
That is the question isn’t it? Could be all of those factors. But not all old Strats sound great, but when they do, they are amazing.
