    I applied when I was 33 years old. Combat Veteran with 46 months of combat time. Applied under Severe PTSD disability. Took 2 years to be approved by a Judge and needed a Lawyers help. I'm 40 now and still receiving. Very Thankful and Grateful I was granted this benefit.

      My friend applied at 51 and was approved in just a few months. She believed it was the questionnaire I filled out for them that described her behaviors and living situation. I was completely honest about her emotional and mental problems. She was on meds and in therapy for more than 10 years after that, until she passed from drug toxicity.
      I've heard some people joke about disability and not having to work "like the rest of us". I would not have traded places with my friend...

      @@hopefletcher7420 when your disability is physical it's a 3 year waiting period. I am totally fine without working I put money into the system since I was 15 years old. I have been watching your videos and finally found this one! Thank you s much for taking the time to make this for us, that means so much to all of us. I am 29 and currently am 8+ months in on my Reconsideration appeal after being denied and currently awaiting a decision. I just got a new adjudicator actually, so I think the rumor that they are retraining adjudicators and are hiring new ones is true. I can't communicate well and it takes me a while to explain things with my memory difficulties and speech from repetitive frontal lobe damage and I have too many physical disabilities to prevent me from doing any physical work. Before my TBI's I was perfectly healthy but almost a decade later I am struggling to live with literally 60+ different diagnosis. Your body goes crazy when your brain is impacted hard enough. By the time hearing comes along, I may not be here as I first applied in January of 2021. Things are getting worse at an alarming rate. My mental health is non-existent anymore and the irony is that I will continue to get worse because I can't afford my treatments on top of it all such as HGH injections for my HGH deficiency from pituitary gland damage. I wanted to take the time to write this because your videos keep me mentally sane through this whole process!

    I have a question and a comment!! I receve SS disabled that started about 5.50 years ago!! I would have been 60 at that time. My process took only 7 mths for the approval!! I receive just 1032.00 a moth. I have thought of some kind of setting work.....but on all SS forms it says i can only earn 1555.00 !! Does this or does it not include the 1032.00?? So does this mean my work income could be only 523.00 a month to total that 1555.00 figure or can i make the additional 1555.00 on top of my SS check?? Thanks 😅
    That rolling stool made me dizzy!!!

    The system is rigged. I’ve been paying into Social Security for 37 years. I was forced to retire from job of 21 years, because they were no longer willing to accommodate my physical limitations. I’ve been unable to get work in the mainstream work-world, cause now I’m considered a liability if they hire me. I applied, but was denied ssdi. I appealed. Sent in copies of my MRIs that support my claim, but after almost 3 yrs of battle with them, I was still denied.😡😡

    The thing that's a Shame of it. Is that so many people abuse this system so the people that actually very much needed can't get it. Also not to mention you need someone else to approve you. So that means if they can understand your issue and if they can relate you're very likely to get approved. That means if I'm 50 years old and if I say that my back hurts the judge would likely say approved. Because being old and your back hurting isn't good 🙄. But if you're in your thirties and you have a severe mental illness. Your going to get told to Get F ed.
    It's very sad but it's true. It's the same thing how people that are a drug or alcohol abuses get all the help they need in life and Society. But the people that went to rehab that's veteran or a person with a mental illness.

    • @TheDisabilityDigest
      @TheDisabilityDigest  9 місяців тому

      You’re absolutely right. Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI) are two different programs. SSDI is an insurance program that workers pay into over their working years. If they become disabled and can no longer work, they can draw from this insurance.
      On the other hand, SSI is a needs-based program for people with limited income and resources, regardless of their work history. It’s funded by general tax revenues, not Social Security taxes.
      It’s important to understand the difference between these two programs to know which one you might be eligible for. If you want to learn more about the difference between SSDI and SSI, you can watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/5HFYZwArdQg/v-deo.html. It provides a clear explanation of the two programs.

    Not knocking SSDI because you only receive what you contributed before you Became disabled even though it was no fault of your own doing. I Started receiving SSDI decades ago while in my early 30’s. The payments have always been small because of it, even decades later. I receive less benefits each month than needed to cover my monthly medical bills (pain pump refills). I feel sorry for anyone who needs to receive it at a young since they will never be able to receive enough money to actually live on for the rest of their lives, unless can they can also work which many of us can’t.

      Yes, it is possible to receive SSDI benefits for a paralyzed vocal cord if it significantly limits your ability to work. The Social Security Administration (SSA) considers both physical and mental impairments that prevent someone from engaging in substantial gainful activity (SGA) for at least 12 months.
      For a paralyzed vocal cord, you would need to demonstrate that it severely affects your ability to perform basic work activities such as speaking clearly, communicating effectively, or even breathing in some cases, especially if it impacts related bodily functions. The SSA may evaluate this under respiratory or speech-related impairments. If you would like to consider having a representative help you get approved, you can discuss this option with one of our Advocates.

    During my hearing the vocation person only had jobs for the first two scenarios the judge asked about but zero jobs for the last three. Also, my lawyer asked if I needed extra breaks and extra days off would there be jobs and the answer was no. My question is can the judge still not approve based on the first two questions? I’m 53 and worked for the same company for 21 years before becoming ill.

    • @TheDisabilityDigest
      @TheDisabilityDigest  8 місяців тому +1

      In a disability hearing, the judge's decision is based on a variety of factors, including your medical condition, your age, your education, your work history, and the vocational expert's testimony. If the vocational expert stated that there are no jobs available for you considering your need for extra breaks and days off, this could significantly influence the judge's decision in your favor. However, the judge may still consider the first two scenarios where jobs were identified.
      Each case is unique and the judge's decision will be based on the totality of the evidence presented. If you have further questions or need more clarification, I recommend reaching out to your attorney who is familiar with your case and the specifics of your hearing.

    • @TheDisabilityDigest
      @TheDisabilityDigest  21 день тому

      Hi Cynthia!
      I understand your concern about maintaining your benefits. Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) are two different programs, each with their own eligibility requirements.
      SSI is a needs-based program for people with limited income and resources, while SSDI is based on your work history and the Social Security taxes you've paid.
      To qualify for SSDI, you must:
      Have a medical condition that meets Social Security's definition of disability.
      Have worked long enough and recently enough under Social Security. This is usually measured in "work credits," which are earned through taxable employment.
      For best results, I suggest that you take advantage of a free Disability Digest membership because it includes a customized step-by-step disability approval course with condition information and live support. I can't work due to my disabled status and my back and I haven't worked in 14 years now. I've got my full 40 credits in my social security account and I really need SSDI but I don't know if I'm eligible because it's been over 10 years since I've worked, but my disability status started 6 full years before I had to stop working and I was told since my disability status started well before I had to stop working, I would be able to apply and they wouldn't kick it back ineligible because of that 10 year rule. • @TheDisabilityDigest
      @TheDisabilityDigest  9 місяців тому +2

      Yes, a high school age child with an intellectual and learning disability who is on an Individualized Education Program (IEP) can potentially be approved for Social Security benefits. The Social Security Administration (SSA) provides Supplemental Security Income (SSI) benefits for children who have disabilities and whose families have limited income and resources.
      The SSA uses a different disability evaluation process for children. They consider the child’s functioning in terms of six domains: acquiring and using information, attending and completing tasks, interacting and relating with others, moving about and manipulating objects, caring for oneself, and health and physical well-being. If the child’s impairment(s) results in “marked and severe functional limitations” in any of these domains, they may be eligible for SSI.

    I was a successful construction worker, and wood worker. I have been doing construction and woodworking since I was 16 years old. I’m 32, had a table saw accident that amputated my dominant hands 5th metacarpal and 5th finger. I cut 2 arteries, 3 nerves the tendons and ligaments. Rushed into surgery, as the ER doctor said in his notes, he feared that I would bleed to death. A screw through my 4th metacarpal holding the knuckle to the carpal. I can’t close my hand I have severe nerve pain. No proprioception of my left hand anymore. I have ptsd when a saw turns on, when I pass a fire truck.
    If I get denied I will lose my house, because I’m still not cleared to work, my company fired me after still not being cleared at 4 months. This is month 9.
    If they tell me to be a Walmart greeter or a ticket person like you said in your examples I will kill myself. I had a future damn it and it’s not to be a frickin store greeter. That won’t be the rest of my life, id rather die now and be remembered for the beautiful woodworking projects I did and running multiple crews while doing my own work projects. I won’t be remembered as the Walmart greeter that worked there for 40 years.

      I'm so sorry to hear about the severe accident and the difficulties you are facing. It's clear that this situation is deeply affecting you, and it's essential to get the support you need. Here are some steps you can take to improve your chances of getting the benefits you need and deserve:
      Medical Documentation: Ensure you have comprehensive medical records that document the extent of your injuries, surgeries, and ongoing issues such as nerve pain, PTSD, and functional limitations. This documentation will be crucial in proving the severity of your condition.
      Psychological Evaluation: Given your PTSD and the severe emotional distress you’re experiencing, a psychological evaluation can provide important documentation to support your claim. This evaluation should include details about your PTSD, its triggers, and how it affects your daily life.
      Occupational Therapy Reports: Reports from occupational therapists who have worked with you can demonstrate the impact of your injuries on your ability to perform tasks related to your previous work and other potential jobs.
      Support from Specialists: Obtain letters and reports from specialists such as neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, and mental health professionals. These documents should outline your prognosis, the likelihood of recovery, and any permanent limitations.

    My granddaughter just started getting her pay but they cut it from $943 to $343 🤔 but she's fully disabled 😔. SC is always ripping ppl off. I wonder if it's because she's 3 years old 🤔.

    • @TheDisabilityDigest
      @TheDisabilityDigest  25 днів тому

      It's possible that your granddaughter's pay was reduced due to several factors, such as household income or resource limits that affect disability payments for children. For children receiving Supplemental Security Income (SSI), payments can be adjusted based on parental income and living arrangements. Since she's only 3 years old, her benefits might be subject to these limits. It’s a good idea to contact the Social Security Administration (SSA) to ask for clarification on the reduction and ensure that her payments are being calculated correctly.

      Epilepsy is indeed listed in the Social Security Administration's (SSA) Blue Book of impairments, which means that you may qualify for benefits if your condition meets the specific criteria outlined. Using cannabis for treatment should not affect your eligibility for SSD benefits. However, it's important to note that the SSA will consider all aspects of your medical condition and treatment when making a decision. To understand more about how the SSA evaluates epilepsy and what medical evidence is needed, you can watch this video: ua-cam.com/video/6cq5KYPjD10/v-deo.html. Have a great day!

He would get more on Disability because he really never put much into Social Security. Any thoughts?? Thanks, Stacey

    I’m 42 and I’ve been diagnosed with ptsd from childhood trauma and contamination ocd and I have a deep seeded fear of being contaminated and it makes it hard to come in close contact with people and I have to always have access to soap and water because I have to wash my hands 😩 I wash them about 50 times a day. Since I’m not age 50, do you think I might qualify or do you think I should just wait until I’m 50 ?

    • @TheDisabilityDigest
      @TheDisabilityDigest  10 місяців тому

      I’m really sorry to hear about your struggles with PTSD and OCD. These conditions can indeed be debilitating and significantly impact your ability to work. Age is just one of the factors that Social Security considers when evaluating disability claims. The key factor is whether your conditions prevent you from doing any kind of substantial gainful activity.
      If your conditions are severe enough that they prevent you from working, you may qualify for Social Security Disability benefits regardless of your age. It’s important to have strong medical evidence to support your claim, including documentation of your diagnoses, your symptoms, the treatments you’ve tried, and how your conditions limit your daily activities.
      Remember, applying for disability benefits can be a complex process, but you don’t have to go through it alone. There are resources available to help you navigate the system.

    Any ALJ using age as a factor is breaking the rules of ssdi benefits. The age requirements for benefits was eliminated in 1960. By "eliminated" that means it can no longer legitimately be a factor. Eliminated was literally the term used in the provision. It isn't a term that makes it discretionary or conditional. Eliminated means gone and therefore not present. There is no grey area there. Anyone who claims otherwise is not following the rules. Which is of course no surprise in this era
