- Talk about a weird bingo card. A new Sims Movie has been announced, and it's being helmed by one of the film industry's current stars! Margot Robbie has a background business venture that has them starring in roles, and now it seems that The Sims is the next thing on her radar. After the likes of the super successful 2023 Barbie Movie, the parallels to be found with a new project like this are self explanatory. But I'll explain them anyway! Alongside standout producer Kate Herron, this project is sizing to be something of note even this early on. But the question is... will it live up to expectations? Or will it come off as another Barbie clone, with Barbie herself..? Either way it's true, They're Making a Sims Movie With Margot Robbie...

The sims has such a deep and complicated lore so i hope it follows that rather than random sim protagonist leaves simulation discovers antonym and how not to burn cereal.
There’s actually a lot of lore from the Sims series they could make the movie about!! I really hope they focus on the story of Bella Goth or something similar, it would be so interesting 😮
They’re not gonna do it like that tho. It’s gonna be real world/fake world mix. They wouldn’t focus on the real lore they never do :(.

If you think about it, the Barbie movie was kind of copying the Lego Movie in a way. It's really just the same cycle

In no universe I can imagine this being a good movie. They can't even make Sims 4 work properly.
Theres a lot they could do about a Sims movie. Like the landgraab family is a whole movie in itself probably. Their main townies all have a storyline of sorts. All games did. And some townies even evolve similarly as the games do. Such as and Agnes Crumbebottum (and her... sister? that I forget the name of) have been getting older in each new evolution of the game. The goth family too.
It just depends on how much research this team is going to do. Or if they're going to play on the simulation part of the game instead of making a movie about preexisting storylines that the Sims have set up. Like cmon, its right there!
The Sims actually has a lot of lore connected to its pre-existing characters (ranging from marital affairs to alien abductions to elaborate family feuds and murder plots and way way more). So the question isn't about whether or not the story is there, as I've seen many commenters bring up, because it is and could fill up several really good movies if they actually tried (I recommend checking out Plumbella's iceberg video if you're remotely interested in the details), the question is about whether or not EA cares enough to do that for the game's fans rather than turning it into Barbie 2 and just trying to make even more money by marketing to people who don't play and don't know about current fandom events. Especially since EA have been treating their players like crap (always, but especially recently).
Sadly, I know they're 100% going for a more commercial route. Recently the current fanbase has been mad at EA, so they're drawing in new players who know nothing about how terrible they are with things like updates on Project Rene/the next Sims game, sales on packs, free packs, and now riding on Barbie's success with this movie. They aren't going to make a unique movie (even i it ends up being good on a public scale), because that would be too kind to their current fanbase, and they haven't exactly been doing that recently.
Do I hope it's good, and they can do something different to Barbie? Yes. As said in the video, they tried this as a concept ages before Barbie's success so I hope they at least have some ideas. It's also got people involved who have been involved in things I love, so I really hope it's competent at the very least. I also think that, while Barbie covered some existential themes, it runs a bit deeper in The Sims and Barbie's main focus was feminism where I'm really hoping The Sims could do something more focused on mental health and existentialism in an "I'm not in control of my own life and I technically don't even exist" kind of way rather than in a "I exist, but everyone actually hates me" kind of way. As a fanbase, we're constantly being brought to shame by EA and the least they can do is give us a good movie - even if none of the lore we've grown to love is involved. But just remember, it's all just a marketing stunt. Because EA don't care about us. I know I won't be paying money for this unless it's really something special.
That’s what I’m saying, I love the ideas in here but i sadly don’t see EA caring enough to expand on them..
@@Jai6ynLiterally. It's such a shame. It could genuinely be so incredible if they could simply be bothered, but it's EA and they haven't exactly been doing that sort of thing recently.
I would personally be more interested in the Does or nervous subject.
But thats not Sims 4 content and since they changed everything established in previous games with the Sims 4, I dont think they are gonna do that.
@@lexa2310 Yeah, it really sucks. I was only really playing Sims when TS4 came out but after watching so many lore videos I'm so angry that they put it on a different timeline.
Personally, I hope it's a horror/thriller comedy.
I want a story about a detective who is hired to find Bella Goth and is led to Strange Town, where they discover the citizens are mysteriously dying off. As they get closer to the truth, they realize the person responsible is targeting them, trying to kill off the detective before their secret can be unveiled. In the end, the detective learns the perpetrator is Nervous Subject, who found a way to control other sims using long-lost devices in the home where he is kept hostage. But it's not just a story of revenge and helplessness; Nervous Subject is killing off other Sims so that he can meet his father, the Grim Reaper.
Or something.
Out of all the video games I thought would receive a movie adaptation, I never thought it would be Sims.

This is why i truly grieve The Witcher not being a movie. Netflix absolutely curdled the story into an insufferable parody, writers actively mocking game/book fans. If we had a movie, with Cavill, we could have fleshed things deeper & more accurately with the budget Geralt deserves :(
imagine in the final scene they trap the sim in a room with a fireplace plants and carpets with no doors
I would hope the furniture and set pieces they use are able to be found in teh expansions, that someone's squished by a Murphy bed, that Grim just sort of hangs out. I think for it to work they may need to do what Lego Movie did: not take itself too seriously but also not dumb it down either. It was fun, and I think it could work, but it'll need recognizable BB and characters that we're used to seeing.

If they made it into a horror film where the player just starts either messing with the sims or killing them off. Though judging how Barbie went, the sims might escape the game and interact with the player or force the player into the game. At least it might have some creativity. Doubt it though with the current storylines of films lately.
This is literally just Barbie 2.
The first sims game (called "the sims" or now known as "sims 1") came out in 2000
In-universe characters enter the real world is also being done this year with the Harold and Purple Crayon movie. It’s not an original premise and Sims doesn’t have the cultural impact like Barbie has to pull off that I can see a commentary on its cultural legacy. There’s no named characters at all, which Lego movie explored but supplemented with licensed characters like Batman.
This has the chance to be an absurdist masterpiece, there's nothing that screams "peak cinema" more than a Sim befriending a toilet or hooking up with the Grim Reaper.
Sims 2 was my favorite and that’s legit only because the camera change, they had the original point and click then they added the over the shoulder full control way and I absolutely miss that control scheme. Played sims 3 for legit 30 seconds after realizing that control was gone havnt returned, wanna play 4 but highly doubt the control scheme was changed so I don’t even waste the time. Sad really

There’s actually Quite a bit of lore in the sims that would separate it from Barbie. It doesn’t sound like they’re going that way though…
I heard that much material is being taken from sims 4 and not older sims games and that’s worrying many people. It would be nice to have sims know there’s a ‘watcher’, but not ‘fight the system to get free will’. That’s been done so many times and doesn’t make sense for the sims. They should just have their own in-worlds plot with full autonomy on, with the screw ups and whackiness that comes with it.
But my hope is that our dear leader Jim Pickens will be a small part of it. ❤

I love the ideas but I really doubt they’re gonna use any of the sims actual stories.. so many companies get the chance to do this shift and fumbles it horribly and makes it a cashgrab, so i don’t doubt this is gonna be the same thing…

I am an avid Sims 4 player, and there is actually TONS of lore stretching across the game series, like the case of the disappearance of Bella Goth. Is the "breaking boundaries" plot confirmed? Cause they just might make something better with the lore seeds Maxis has planted over the many years of the franchise's existence.
Also, there is a TON of fan content here on UA-cam of very well-done stories using 4, and kinda a lot of mods. Machinimas, I believe they're called. I especially like the ones without dialogue, and just letting the characters express their emotions and presumed conversations.
And yes, I stan The Sims 4.

I'm so glad you mentioned that one cancelled Fox live-action Sims movie, I have thought of it ever since the movie was announced. I used to think that the plot would be some guys discovering a copy of the Sims game that allow them to control real life and develop god complex, which they're paying dearly for the consequences.
Speaking of Sims movies, I had a dream that the Sims had a animated CGI trilogy back in the 2000's, something comparable to the Barbie movies, cheap direct-to-dvd level of animation but the writing has its charm. But the 3rd one is apparently the worst one in the series. Apparently, it's plot is a loose adaptation of Around the World in 80 days starring a man and a woman. And one of the characters in there may or may not be related to a random Sim from the Sims 2 (He is called Mr. Upsnott according to the cast).

Honestly, the only storyline I can think of other than "Barbie 2" or one that follows the Sims lore is maybe a player who is very connected to their Sims world befriends one of their Sims that somehow becomes self-aware. They shape the world to help things go their way but things keep doing terribly wrong. We know how unpredictable the Sims is.
They should just make a random ass show. Just simish pure randomness you meet a new sim home with new antics every episode
I hope they cover the weird explanation of the families in the game. Or the story you read when starting a new file. Also sims 3 is flucking the best those expansions were peak. Though i miss sims 2 vaction, sims 3 world adventure was close but it was missing something.

Man, I wish my Sims would have normal lives. Every other day one of my households calls another to ask about hooking up with pretty much everyone in town, the local doctor regularly goes on biting sprees(he's killed two people), one household has had 4 separate fires(One of the members died and then got brought back to life), and pretty much half the town is werewolves.
So, their options are:
Use existing Sims lore
Generic family drama with aliens and the supernatural
Chaos
i wonder who's gonna play vlad, if he's in the movie at all
Intrigued to see if The Sims movie is like Barbie!
from dollhouses to digital ones when barbie came out I seen A method to the madness but how in the world are they going to do this with the sims I mean it is such A life simulator that you have to tell A sim to go to the bathroom and take out the trash and how I know this well I played sims 1 and 4 and I can say with the utmost certainty that they are dumber than bricks and at times A frustrating ordeal also that when you remove the ladder they are not smart enough to just crawl out of the pool coding or not
Imagine if the sims movie was about the Bella Goth situation (if you know you know)

And just accepting that your choices may not be your own and everything may have a set path where free will has no place but thats okay because they still feel as though they are your own. I think it will fail, but not because of Margo Robbie or her company. Last time EA tried to make a movie out of a game of theirs, we got Need For Speed, a Gone in 60 Seconds/Fast and Furious clone that bombed.
I remember EA asking Need For Speed fans what car they'd want to see on the big screen, and the most requested car was the iconic E46 BMW M3 GTR fom Need For Speed Most Wanted 2005. Instead, what we got was yet another stupid Mustang as the hero car. I'm still bitter, because why ask fans what they want to see, only to ignore them and give them slop.
I won't be surprised if EA intentionally doesn't allow a pool drowning scene just to piss off fans of The Sims and Sim City.
Videogame movies are hit or miss, this one may be the latter
You know what I want? I want a more religious vibe to the whole thing in contrary to Barbie's feminist messaging. I want a story about "free will" and how much you can have when there's an apparent "all knowing, all powerful" being controlling and predicting your every move and the paranoia, social consequences and other things that come from that.

I'm so confused about this. Other film adaptations of games make some sense because those are games with stories. But the Sims doesn't have a story. Isn't the entire point of the Sims that *you* create the characters and *you* come up with your own stories? Why make it Sims at all? If the whole premise of the Sims is that it allows you play out your own original stories, maybe just write your own original story?
