    Fun fact about this episode, the Fortune Teller is played by Chipo Chung. That may not seem significant until you realize that this is her second appearance in the series. Originally, she played Professor Yana's assistant, Chantho in the episode Utopia. Meaning she has played important characters in the beginnings of two 3-Part series finales.

    The Scene where Donna's mother is just sitting down, staring at nothing blankly as Donna walks in and says she wasn't fit enough to get a job and that she should have studied harder...and then says she guesses she's always been a disappointment and the way the mother just goes "Yeah...I guess you're right." is so sad, just utter hopelessness, you know there's no hope when Donna's mother isn't even trying to berate her anymore.

    • @Look_Over_There
      @Look_Over_There Рік тому +18

      Totally agree it also shows for all her bluster, however hard faced her mother was to her and overbearing/ putting her down Donna was stronger in the end because she dug deep and did what she had to do to save everyone she was willing to literally die. Love her.

    "Donna is so special and I love her so much." My thoughts exactly. Donna is my very favorite companion, and this particular episode showcases why. Even the (seemingly) most ordinary person can have a huge impact on the world. This resonated hugely with me when I first watched it, and it still does 10+ years later.

    Everybody, and I mean everybody, acted their asses off in this episode. Especially Katherine Tate.
    BTW, Katherine Tate is a classically trained Shakespearean actor who was actually with the Royal Shakespeare Company for a very short while. She stumbled into standup comedy while in acting school and from there went into sketch comedy, which she became famous for. So it makes sense that she's so so good in this show, balancing the humor and the drama.

    The ending of this episode, my gosh… It was so, so brilliantly suspenseful, and I love that they didn’t reveal her as Rose, but as Bad Wolf) And you are left to guess, whether Rose remembered something from season 1, or whether maybe it was the Bad Wolf’s plan all along, because back then she could see everything, including the future, and she led herself where she needed to be…
    Also, the fortune teller is the chan tho actress from season 3))) They do that sometimes in DW, hire the same actors for different roles, and it’s cool)

    This is probably the best "what if?" story. Not only do the consequences of the Doctor not being present to stop various disasters accumulate each on top of the previous, but they even take into account that the UK was no longer the best target for the Adipose, and that the other teams operating on Earth would intervene where they could. And we see them do so in the background, in sequence, and at great cost. And it's all presented with intense gravitas, even during the parts that would ordinarily be funny.

    Easily one of the best episodes of any Dr Who series as it told millions how important a single person can be through the simplest and most mundane of decisions: each of us can change the world for better or worse through our choices. And it's rare in that its a companion only driven story, with only "Blink" being like it, as the Doctor isn't the central driver of the story; this cements Catherine Tate as truly great actress if she can get the script to allow her to shine.

    A truly brilliant episode! I love that it's only this good if you've seen it all. It is not a stand-alone great episode that one can recommend to a newbie, like Blink, for instance. All that is significant about it is rooted in knowing why this is all so very heartbreaking. To me, this and the next two are sort of a trilogy of awesomeness!
