Does anybody else remember Idris(the Soul of the TARDIS) whispering to Rory: "The only Water in the Forest is the River", & w/ Her dying breath(as Idris) at that.... 🤭 This was lingering in the background for quite a bit before the knowledge & meaning of it arrived in this moment.... 🥹💗 Uhhhg..... .... SO MUCH LOVE....🤗
Didn't ever catch that. Love how all of this is so in our face the whole time yet expertly concealed so only THE MOST perceptive people pick up on it before the reveal.
And then she proceeds to tell her dad the awesome, sweet things her husband and her did on her date. Her whole body language changes to something like a love struck girll. So heart-warming.
rewatching River episodes is really rewarding after this point, cause you notice how "unusually" sweet River is with Amy in the Angels episode, and how she doesnt introduce herself to Amy at the Pandorica (although it predates the Angels episode in her timeline)
Alex was the only person other than Steven who knew who River was. Steven made sure she knew so she could properly play the character at the appropriate moments in River's life. Watching River's scenes in her chronological order make total sense, a testament to Alex Kingston's acting ability.
@@JeshuaSquirrel getting to know Alex a bit better, you start to feel like she's the most devoted fan of the whole thing. So much genuine love for the story and her character. She seems to enjoy it more than anyone
A neat little fun fact, John Barrowman (Captain Jack) was meant to show up here, this is how he would lose his head and become the Face of Boe but the actor was busy with other projects at the time.
I just realized a small but fun detail. In the Silence in the Library episodes, Tenant’s Doctor says “…I point and laugh at archaeologists.” In this episode when he meets “Melody” as a baby, he points down at her and laughs…although it’s a happy laugh for it being a new baby of a friend.
This episode is WHY I watch WHO reactions. Been waiting for you to get here since Rose. River’s scene with Rory is so much better the second time you watch her come home from celebrating HER BIRTHDAY. This is a great time to go back and revisit silence in the library - where the Doctor meets River the day she dies wearing Tenent’s face and traveling with Donna. Love the Melody Song River Pond story.
What really blew my mind is if you look back at previous episodes with River after watching this episode, you realize she knew Amy and Rory were her parents the entire time, yet she never once gave any indication/special attention to them/nor reacted to them even in the first time she ever met them. It impressed me how well she was able to keep that a secret the whole time, and kind of tragic that she couldn't "enjoy" their relationship in that way explicitly or it would totally disrupt the timeline.
Rory's acting when River says "Im Melody." is amazing. From confusion and anger, to pure shock. His forehead just morphs from those 3 emotions in 2 seconds.
I love the scene with the crib how he never directly answers Amy’s question. The doctor is a father and a grandfather, he told Donna in the doctors daughter, all gone now.
Jay, do you remember in the beginning where River said that she couldn't come until the very end, and she also was talking about a birthday? She couldn't come until her actual birthday - when she would actually be born and taken by the silence, otherwise she would have crossed her own time-line.
God I remember watching this as a kid when it came out and I still think it's one of the best twists. The score behind it and the way the reveal is done is so perfect. I cried just watching it here out of context. Gives me chills every time
This episode is _mind-blowing!_ My heart breaks for Ponds every time I watch it, but River's reveal is so amazing. And the meaning of the Doctor changing depending on how he behaves is so raw. "Great warrior". Also Rory is the best!!! And if you're wondering Doctor did have a granddaughter (or someone who believed he was her grandfather) - Susan Foreman (Campbell), companion to First Doctor and a Gallifreyan
Alex Kingston ( River) on her very first episode with David Tennant (which was written by Steven Moffat) was given her journal which is in fact filled with all the details of River's life that Steven planned from the very very beginning. Steven made a point that he was going to be the only one to write episodes with River in it. Alex knew everything from the beginning (I believe she even knew she was Amy's daughter from the beginning) and all of the episodes that are still to come with River are written in the journal as well so really Steven is the best screen writer there ever was and it's so precious to know that Alex got to see it all play out exactly like she read in the journal
Where did you hear any of this? None of this is true. Moffat wouldn't write Rivers entire story in a journal which he then passed around to Alex. That easily could've gotten lost and leaked. And Moffat has literally said he didn't plan on writing Amy as a character until after he wrote rivers first story.
Oh I’m so glad you’re watching this omg!! River’s reveal is one of the best. It’s so heart wrenching to see their timelines in reverse knowing the Doctor has seen her death.
I have been waiting for your reaction to this 😁 Also I don't know if you caught it, but if you remember three episodes ago, "the only water in the forest is the river" is what Idris (as the TARDIS consciousness) said to Rory.
I think he *DID* catch it, on account of the way that he reacted, JOLTING UP OUT OF HIS CHAIR, when River repeated that line, before they had even revealed the translation on the blanket... :)

@monkeyzorr3090 I found Discovery mostly unwatchable (although possibly not for the same reasons as many others). Strange New Worlds isn’t perfect, but it does some good stuff. As a for-instance, episode 1x06 is actually based on an old Roddenberry script (he may actually have a writing credit on it?), and IMO it definitely shows. 18:27 A Good Man Goes to War = best episode of Doctor Who ever! The ending which River Song reveals herself as Amy and Rory's daughter Man! I really did not see that coming.
Amy and Rory's daughter giving her life for the Doctor is such an obvious choice for her right now. My goodness what a story line... and the ride isn't over yet for Jay.

"Oh, look, your cot haven't seen that in a very long while" - River
When you have the right wording, it also makes more sense to some people.
That opening hits so hard, that Rory would just walk through all the Cybermen security systems like that to ask a question.
If you recall in The Doctor's Wife, they actually foreshadowed this ending...
Doctor's Wife was such a deliberate diversion for the maximal effect of this reveal. It's so freaking smart.

Where did the Doctor get *his* cot? *The attic of his TARDIS, his home.*
